Guest Shadow Posted June 7, 2002 Report Posted June 7, 2002 Well, from the wwe.com interview, first off apparently we're getting an HBK Lite. Quote from it: "Shawn: I'm not going to use profanity. Those things just aren't a part of my life anymore. WWE.com: No profanity? Not at all? Shawn: No. I mean, if somebody asked me to do it on TV, I'm not going to do it." As if it that wasn't bad enough: "Shawn: I'm not going to change the world. I don't anticipate doing that, and it's certainly not my purpose. But it is my job to send the message out there. And when I get a chance, I'll do that. I'm not going to beat anybody over the head with a Bible. WWE.com: Literally and figuratively. Shawn: Exactly. Mostly figuratively. But, you know, he wouldn't have sent me back if he didn't want me back there for a reason" Now, I'm sorry, but as an HBK fan and an Atheist as well, this is kind of pissing me off and making me a lot less enthusiatic about his return. While he claims he's "not going to beat us over the head with a Bible" he also claims that "he was sent here for a reason" i.e. he's going to try to spread his Christian fundie message somehow. Memo to Shawn: WWE already has a guy with a religious gimmick. We don't want to be preached to. Even the Christians who watch WWE, I doubt most of them are fundies- most of the time, the fundies are the ones that side with the PTC-type groups. I'm sorry, but just because HBK has found Jeebus, doesn't mean he has to go around preaching to everyone else. I hope he picks this up and figures this out before he goes on-air and ruins his gimmick.
Guest TheMikeSC Posted June 7, 2002 Report Posted June 7, 2002 Why don't we wait for Shawn to actually push God down the viewers' throats before we complain about it? If his faith means we can avoid the bad dick and fart jokes of dX, I'm all for it. -=Mike ...Pre-emptive bitching annoys me

Did you actually bother to watch WWF during that period? Sorry, but they took the annoying heels to a whole new level, and also broke down a lot of barriers in regards to what can and can't be done on wrestling TV (remember when they showed the video of the MSG Incident?). To say they were nothing but "bad fart and dick jokes" is very unfair. And when the man implies that he's going to shove God down my throat, I will pre-emptivley bitch about it. If we tune into Raw and he doesn't, then okay, I'll shut up- but if he didn't imply it in the interview, I wouldn't be here bitching about it, right?
Guest papacita Posted June 7, 2002 Report Posted June 7, 2002 I didn't get that impression at all. The strong emphasis on religion seemed to be Shawn's way of letting critics know that he'd changed as far as his backstage antics go. The interview's ultimate goal was (IMO) to ease the worries of those worried about the Kliq being back together again. I seriously doubt he would come back to a heel stable and try to force the Bible on the viewers.
Guest Posted June 7, 2002 Report Posted June 7, 2002 While he claims he's "not going to beat us over the head with a Bible" he also claims that "he was sent here for a reason" i.e. he's going to try to spread his Christian fundie message somehow. ok well lets examine this. "he was sent here for a reason" doesn't necessarily mean that he's going to come out and he's going to try to spread his Christian fundie message somehow." It means that he feels that God has given him the opportunity to perform again. I'm not a "fundie Christian." I am a Christian yes, but I have a different view of religion than the average follower of Jeebus. I do find it funny that so many atheists feel (and rightfully so) that religion shouldn't be forced on anyone and that people should have the right to have or not to have a religion, however the moment someone of fame comes out and says that they've found religion, atheists are the first to jump up and criticize them for doing so. That my friend is hypocritical. If Shawn comes out and starts bible thumping, you will have every right to bash him. Infact, I will too. But I doubt he will. Why? It wouldn't logically work. Sure the WWE lately hasn't been too heavy on "logic" but I feel they're not really that stupid. When the nWo comes out with bibles in their hands, wearing suits and quoting Genesis, then my friend you will have a right to complain. Until then, let's not get ahead of ourselves.
Guest Kahran Ramsus Posted June 7, 2002 Report Posted June 7, 2002 When did the whole Jeebus spelling begin? From the Simpsons episode where Homer has to become a missionairy to avoid PBS.
Guest justcoz Posted June 7, 2002 Report Posted June 7, 2002 Why would the nWo quote Phil Collins or Genesis???
Guest justcoz Posted June 7, 2002 Report Posted June 7, 2002 Shawn could still play an arrogant smart ass despite his religious belief, maybe the days of humping a flag or being overly sexual on the mic are gone but I know plenty of arrogant pompous Christians...
Guest El Satanico Posted June 7, 2002 Report Posted June 7, 2002 You're all missing the real meaning behind this interview. nWo is going to become a stable of "good christians". They will need a rival to battle so that's where the "evil nonbelievers using religion for evil" stable consisting of Dvon, Deacon, Lance Storm and Christian comes into play.
Guest AlwaysPissedOff Posted June 7, 2002 Report Posted June 7, 2002 How can you say DX was just "bad fart and dick jokes"? Did you actually bother to watch WWF during that period? Sorry, but they took the annoying heels to a whole new level, and also broke down a lot of barriers in regards to what can and can't be done on wrestling TV (remember when they showed the video of the MSG Incident?). To say they were nothing but "bad fart and dick jokes" is very unfair. A majority of their stuff back then WAS dick jokes with some mooning and stripping thrown in. Oh, and that lame racist-like bullshit they pulled on the Nation to make them beat down the Hart Foundation. Russo's leaving didn't come soon enough for my tastes. And personally, I don't see why their showing of the MSG incident really meant anything. Because most of the fanbase back then wouldn't have had a clue as to WHY they shouldn't have shown it. In fact, I don't even remember that segment getting that much of a reaction in the first place.
Guest Risk Posted June 7, 2002 Report Posted June 7, 2002 the "evil nonbelievers using religion for evil" Catholics?
Guest buffybeast Posted June 7, 2002 Report Posted June 7, 2002 I highly doubt that Vince will allow HBK or whatever he is calling himself today to come out and spout his religious beliefs. I think what Shawn meant was that he will not do anything on tv that will compromise his beliefs as a Christian. I do, however, get the impression that Shawn would push religion down your throat in private. I think he'd love to get his hands on Scott Hall and give him God's Word.
Guest converge241 Posted June 7, 2002 Report Posted June 7, 2002 maybe its leading to Shawn Michaels vs Sting

Yeah that whole thing where he was talking about Scott Hall, and "if he'll let me in." I don't think that he was talking about Hall letting him into his house. More like letting God into his heart or something as equally lame. That said, what's good for the goose, isn't necessarily good for the gander. If it helps Hall clean up his life, then more power to him. I'm an atheist as well, but I have no issues with religion unless it's being forced upon me or crammed down my throat.
Guest Shadow Posted June 7, 2002 Report Posted June 7, 2002 Ummm....guys? "Shawn: But it is my job to send the message out there. And when I get a chance, I'll do that." So what do you take that as? Send the message out there? When he gets a chance, he'll do that? To me, it seems like he's at least going to be mentioning it in his promos.
Guest Ripper Posted June 7, 2002 Report Posted June 7, 2002 I do find it disturbing that you said Shawn not cursing would be a bad thing. DX was dick and fart jokes. Thats...about...it. They were "funny" heels. And what did all of their jokes consist of...dick jokes, Chynas new breast...and Slaughters spit. Nothing you could call exactly high brow...or middle brow for that matter. I have to agree with mike...nobody has a reason to bitch about it yet, so wait.
Guest Posted June 7, 2002 Report Posted June 7, 2002 HBK's working all of you... this is new scheme to get over as a heel.
Guest AlwaysPissedOff Posted June 7, 2002 Report Posted June 7, 2002 If it is, he's doing a damn good job because I didn't watch RAW on Monday and I don't plan on watching a single HBK segment ever until he goes away for good.
Guest Posted June 7, 2002 Report Posted June 7, 2002 If it is, he's doing a damn good job because I didn't watch RAW on Monday and I don't plan on watching a single HBK segment ever until he goes away for good. well... keeping in mind there is "I hate you" heat and "You suck 10 inch dick" heat. The first is good, the second kills business
Guest Posted June 7, 2002 Report Posted June 7, 2002 Ummm....guys? "Shawn: But it is my job to send the message out there. And when I get a chance, I'll do that." So what do you take that as? Send the message out there? When he gets a chance, he'll do that? To me, it seems like he's at least going to be mentioning it in his promos. Let's look at this logically for a moment How serious will anyone take HBK as a member of the nWo, an evil heel group, if he comes out and spouts off about Jeebus? No one will take him seriously. "Sending a message" could mean anything. "Sending the message" could mean trying to help guys who need religious fullfillment in the locker room, or sending the message to his friends or whatever. If you honestly think the WWE is that stupid, to allow or be in favor of a member of their top heel stable (hell, even as a face stable it would be a terrible idea) to go out there and preach to everyone in the audience, then you're not looking at the situation logically. I might be eating my words in a few weeks, but I'm telling you, it's not going to happen. If it does, I'll be the first to complain about it.
Guest AlwaysPissedOff Posted June 7, 2002 Report Posted June 7, 2002 And HBK is getting the second type from me, so what's your point?
Guest Posted June 7, 2002 Report Posted June 7, 2002 And HBK is getting the second type from me, so what's your point? nothing... I was referring to the heat generated by fans who would then want to buy tickets and stuff to see HBK get shut up, not the heat that you describe.
Guest Just call me Dan Posted June 7, 2002 Report Posted June 7, 2002 HBK vs D'Von Summerslam Baybee!
Guest HartFan86 Posted June 7, 2002 Report Posted June 7, 2002 I just don't see how he can use his new found Christian faith on TV with the nWo. Nash: Your either with the nWo, or you can get the HELL out! *HBK points finger at Nash* HBK: Watch your language young man! Didn't you read Mark 6:58 this morning? X-Pac: I did. HBK: Let's talk about it. *Ratings die after HBK does a 20 minutes cermon on Raw* Okay...I'm kidding, but you get my point...I Hope.
Guest notJames Posted June 7, 2002 Report Posted June 7, 2002 I personally can't wait for the inevitable Austin/HBK confrontation where Steve-O reprises his KOTR '96 speech before he kicks Shawn's bible-thumping ass. Put that in your sig and smoke it!
Guest the 1inch punch Posted June 7, 2002 Report Posted June 7, 2002 Sting is also a Jeebus Freak and he wont go to WWE because of it.
Guest Ravenbomb Posted June 7, 2002 Report Posted June 7, 2002 Don't you see? They're going to redo the inVasion, but not with WCW...with the CWF~!!! Or he'll feud with Christopher Daniels
Guest BobbyBacklund Posted June 8, 2002 Report Posted June 8, 2002 I don't remember this racist thing. What's that about?
