Guest Kotzenjunge Posted June 26, 2002 Report Posted June 26, 2002 According to a thing I read on Rajah, WWE may be getting rid of the Hurricane gimmick because the road agents don't like it. Supposedly him getting his mask stolen was a precursor to the return to Gregory Helms. What was the problem? Too fun? Anyways, say what you think about this.
Guest raptor Posted June 26, 2002 Report Posted June 26, 2002 That would piss me off beyond belief. The best gimmicked wrestler to come along in a long while, and they're going to give up on it? They're just trying to hold us comic fans down.
Guest Downhome Posted June 26, 2002 Report Posted June 26, 2002 I've always looked at the Hurrcane gimmick as nothing more than a trasistional gimmick. I think it was only used in order to get him noticed, get him over, etc... Now that he is getting a reaction, I think they feel he can do fine just being himself, and I happen to agree with it. Look out... ...Gregory Helms is comin' through!
Guest Perfect Plex Posted June 26, 2002 Report Posted June 26, 2002 (Does a very simple and uninteresting HHHater impression) Vince: People like the Hurricane. HHH: What? Kill him! Vince: I don't think we can do that, Paul HHH: Well then...kill his character! Vince: Right away, sir!
Guest massivHEDtrauma Posted June 26, 2002 Report Posted June 26, 2002 The only way this could possibly be a good thing is if Helms is due for a sizable push and the road agents think that he needs to adopt a more serious tone to warrant it. But that won't happen because this is, y'know, the WWE. So, yeah, this whole thing sucks pretty bad.

I wish he'd go back to the gimmick he had in WCW where he was being presented as a true threat and an emerging superstar.
Guest RickyChosyu Posted June 26, 2002 Report Posted June 26, 2002 The Hurricane gimick is loads of fun, but it's just that, fun. Nothing else. For the Noble feud to work, he has to be serious. People need to realize that love triangles don't work unless they're taken seriously by the fans, or else they just die. Remember when WCW tried to answer the Angle/HHH/Steph love triangle by having Shane Douglas and Billy Kidman feud over Torrie in a Viagra on a Pole match? It just doesn't work unless the writers make it a serious issue, and the character motivations are really important. Why should Hurricane, a super hero (who was always alluding to the fact that he was screwing Mighty Molly around the time that his supposed "relationship" with Nidia was going on) care about getting her back? Why would he even have any interest in her to begin with? Hopefully Helms can transform his gimick into a character so people will buy him as more than a comedy wrestler for once.
Guest Jobber of the Week Posted June 26, 2002 Report Posted June 26, 2002 I don't like the Hurricane gimmick. Not only is it corny as hell, it's limited. You can use some of the current talent and give him some "villains" to fight with. But after you've watched him try and chokeslam Kane for the 430th time, it gets old. It kind of reminds me of Hardcore Holly's "I'm a super-heavyweight!" months. Funnier than all hell, but it was whipped to death shortly after Crash arrived.
Guest Perfect Plex Posted June 26, 2002 Report Posted June 26, 2002 JobberOTW, forgive me for ignoring the entire point of your post, but speaking of Kane, remember when Hurricane called him "Citizen Kane"? Golden as Arn Anderson's shower.
Guest Prince Paul Posted June 26, 2002 Report Posted June 26, 2002 They might as well just leave the mask on the guy and everything. I mean, they're not gonna seriously push him so he might as well be funny, since he won't be a legitimate threat to anything except the LHW and Hardcore titles. Not that I think Helms can't get over, but his push will be cut off at the legs, if it even gets that far.
Guest Ash Ketchum Posted June 26, 2002 Report Posted June 26, 2002 They get rid of Hurricane... and he'll go back to where he started in WWE... just another lowly jobber.
Guest Austin3164life Posted June 26, 2002 Report Posted June 26, 2002 Bring back Shane Helms and the Vertebreaker, damnit!!
Guest RetroRob215 Posted June 26, 2002 Report Posted June 26, 2002 I also love the Hurricane gimmick, but Shane Helms would be cool too. Most importantly, THINK OF THE THEME MUSIC.
Guest Austin3164life Posted June 26, 2002 Report Posted June 26, 2002 I just want to see Shane Helms and I want to see Helms and Billy Kidman tear it up in a Cruiserweight Match. We get to see the Shooting Star Press and the Vertebreaker. Seeing one of them is gratifying enough. Just bring back Shane Helms......
Guest Smell the ratings!!! Posted June 26, 2002 Report Posted June 26, 2002 If he ditches the Hurricane character, he's not Shane Helms, he's Funaki. If Helms goes into "I'm a young crusierweight striving to reach the top of this company! And people like me!" mode (I call this "The Maven"), then he will be just another extremly talented crusier with absolutly no angle who can really tear it up.....with Scoot Andrews on Metal. Helms will be fucked. Knoble will lose to Rey, and he will be fucked (Nidia will stay), then Rey will ditch the mask or something, and he will be fucked. Tajiri and Kidman, of course, were fucked already.
Guest Austin3164life Posted June 26, 2002 Report Posted June 26, 2002 From what it sounds like, you're saying that the Cruiserweight division is pretty much fucked.......(not trying to disagree on that standpoint)......
Guest Smell the ratings!!! Posted June 26, 2002 Report Posted June 26, 2002 From what it sounds like, you're saying that the Cruiserweight division is pretty much fucked i'd say that pretty much covers it.
Guest buffybeast Posted June 26, 2002 Report Posted June 26, 2002 Getting rid of Hurricane's gimmick is fine if the WWF have another one ready to give him. I fear the WWF will just get rid of his superhero gimmick without carefully creating another one. If this happens, Helms will become just another light heavyweight jobber.
Guest Ash Ketchum Posted June 26, 2002 Report Posted June 26, 2002 That's it. I'm going to start a petition to save Hurricane. Anyone with me?
Guest BigTim2002 Posted June 26, 2002 Report Posted June 26, 2002 Ash, you KNOW I'm down. And that Cruiserweight thing...I smell a new thread!
Guest Harry Hood Posted June 26, 2002 Report Posted June 26, 2002 Yeh I mean petitions can do whatever you want them to...
Guest welshjerichomark Posted June 26, 2002 Report Posted June 26, 2002 this is just the wwe all over- wow a mid-card cruiserweight is getting over lets kill the fucker- think tajiri.
Guest Austin3164life Posted June 26, 2002 Report Posted June 26, 2002 If this petition also saves the Cruiserweight Division, I'm in...... B)
Guest BigTim2002 Posted June 26, 2002 Report Posted June 26, 2002 Don't even get me started on Tajiri, who could be teamed with Funaki to become a bomb-ass evil japanese tag team...oh wait, they buried a team JUST like that? Jeez...but I will say this. Tajiri=A smaller Great Muta. Kick, mist, moonsault, Tarantula. That is ALL he needed to get over. And then they bury him.
Guest Will Scarlet Posted June 26, 2002 Report Posted June 26, 2002 Wow. No Hurricane = another thing I used to like about the WWE gone. Of course, the WWE should be happy because I might just take their "If you don't like it, then don't watch!" advice, which appears to be what they want their fans to do anyway because without the Hurricane, then that only leaves Tajiri as the only guy who I will go out of my way to watch on Smackdown. Thanks WWE.
Guest chirs3 Posted June 26, 2002 Report Posted June 26, 2002 NOOOOOOO! Hurricane is the coolest! They can't end the character! *fires up email to WWE*
Guest Brian Posted June 26, 2002 Report Posted June 26, 2002 I love the gimmick but it's taking a toll on his matches.
Guest NaturalBornThriller4:20 Posted June 26, 2002 Report Posted June 26, 2002 Shane-Helms! Vertabreaker! Shane-and-Chavo-would-be-a-great-match.
Guest Steviekick Posted June 26, 2002 Report Posted June 26, 2002 What the hell? Hurricane is the only clever gimmick/character that they've create in a long time. I'd argue that Hurricane is more over than HHH at this point.
