Hurricane's Gimmick

Hurricane was a horrible, horrible gimmick that Shane Helms miraculously got over. I have always hated it. I would love to see him do a match with out haveing to pause and spin like a moron, or puttin on the cape to do a cross body so it looks like he is flying instead of the sweet ass top rope moves he would be doing other wise. The best match he has had in WWF was with Kidman...when he was still SHane Helms(or Gregory or what ever). Just give him the Sugar Shane name again and you are gold. The cruisers got over in WCW, they can get over here. They just have to undo the restraints and let them fly and drop each other on thier heads.

I just hope if they do, they let him use Shane Helms, not Gregory. That way he can use the Sugar Shane moniker. I mean, what the hell can you do w/ Gregory? And who's going to confuse Helms w/ Shane McMahon?

 

So naturally, the WWE will make him use Gregory.

Actually, that made sense. They were in the same faction. You wouldn't put Shawn Stasiak and a retooled Sean Waltman in the NWO with Shawn michaels.

See, now that just isn't entertaining television after that happens 9-10 times in a night.

While the gimmick was entertaining at times, and the sheer over-the-top element made it work, I think the novelty is over and it's pretty much run it's course by now, with all possible jokes being used. The only thing left that could've been done was giving Hurricane a crime-fighting sidekick or an over-the-top comic villain, and then it would just be overkill.

 

I can agree with Ripper in saying that I'd rather see Shane Helms run a match without acting like a goof in the ring. There, he just becomes a joke and the gimmick begins holding him back. IMO, he's over enough by now that he can transition back into a more realistic character without losing a step, or the fans in the process.

What he needs to do is just lose toKnoble until he realizes it's the gimmick, just be like "screw it", and than hit the fucking vertibreaker. I'm sure that will get a good pop.

I agree with what Brian said. Have him loose clean again to Noble, snap like Sids leg, whip his mask off and give Nidia the vertebreaker.

 

On a side note, the resurrection of "Sugar" Shane Helms would not only bring us the vertebreaker but also the Suga Babyz. You know, the Nitro Girls in different costumes.

Actually, I was considering him giving Noble the vertibreaker during the match, totally knocking him out (insuring the move stays over), than have Nidia rush in the ring to save her man, only for Helms to finally lay it in to her (thus insuring Helms stays over). Than pin him, and finally they can do stretcher job that actually means something.

I think Hurricane can be serious and still be the same Hurricane character. Look at Edge. He is Mr. Goofy Comedian in his promos and even sometimes in the ring, but in the ring he'll get serious when he gets pissed. In fact, there are several wrestlers who could balance serious ring work with comedy in and out of the ring: Road Dogg, Triple H (with DX), Shawn Michaels, Mr. Ass, Chris Jericho, and even Norman Smiley. For another example, look at SpiderMan. He's a nice, kinda funny guy most of the time, but he has a mean streak.

Spiderman was also Naive. Anyways, Helms has put to much into the Hurricane for them to just ditch it now. Pry the Euro title from Regal and give it back to Hurricane, let him help get that title over, and himself in the process.

Now, I'd like to see the gimmick stay, but if they go with Suga Shane and have him Vertebreaking people all night long, then I can live with it...as long as he doesn't wear black trunks.

What the hell? Hurricane is the only clever gimmick/character that they've create in a long time. I'd argue that Hurricane is more over than HHH at this point.

I much prefer the long pants look to the short black trunks. The best was in his 3-Count days, with him just wearing the big pants. Kind of a Hardyz rip-off, but it worked.

Oh well. I guess I'm one of the few who actually like the Hurricane gimmick and doesn't believe it's stale. I very seriously doubt Helms could've gotten this over with the "Sugar Shane" moniker. The crowd was completely dead at the WCW shows when he came out with the chicks to that jazzed up goofy music. And when he did the little dancing routine... ! Eh, I like The Hurricane alot better.

According to a thing I read on Rajah, WWE may be getting rid of the Hurricane gimmick because the road agents don't like it. Supposedly him getting his mask stolen was a precursor to the return to Gregory Helms.

That doesn't seem to make sense. Who the fuck cares what the road agents think about someone's gimmick? Personally, I think it's pretty tired at this point, but the crowd loves it. I guess they can't afford to have any backstage maestros like Tony Garea walking out on them or anything.

 

So, basically, what I wanna say is that if they end up getting rid of it and that's the reason, someone's a fucking moron.

 

 

I wish he'd go back to the gimmick he had in WCW where he was being presented as a true threat and an emerging superstar.

That "emerging superstar" character was pretty bland. Unless he made some changes, it would take all of a month for people to not give much of a shit about him again.

 

If he's allowed to do whatever he wants in the ring, though, that'd be a big assist ... but I doubt it'd get him anywhere.

 

Not to mention that the braces aren't helping matters.

 

 

If he ditches the Hurricane character, he's not Shane Helms, he's Funaki. If Helms goes into "I'm a young crusierweight striving to reach the top of this company! And people like me!" mode (I call this "The Maven"), then he will be just another extremly talented crusier with absolutly no angle who can really tear it up.....with Scoot Andrews on Metal.
