Smackdown Review! Smackdown Review!
Half on the net and half on UPN
Internet Matches:
One fall for the WWE Tag Team Championship: MNM (w/Melina) vs. The Legion of Doom 2K5©
** and 1/2 stars.
Ken Kennedy (w/kickass ring introductions) vs. Paul London
* star. Hey, i got a better idea for London. Can we send him to OVW and let him become better there, and stay there. OVW as a wresling promotion right now is better than WWE. Ken Kennedy works better in WWE than in OVW, where as somebody like London can thrive now in a Heyman based promotion.
Scotty 2 Hotty vs. Paul Burchill (w/William Regal)
Good match out of Burchill. ** stars
UPN MATCHES:
Eddy Guerrero vs. Rey Misterio Jr.
This was an amazing match. The problem does this match excuse the losses aquired by Misterio? No. Orton should face off Bastisa for the title. Never the less, *** and 3/4 stars.
One fall for the WWE United States Championship: Chris Benoit© vs. Orlando Jordan©
WOW...somebody tell me why Jordan has not fallen off a bridge (i mean that in a figrtive sense) No ranking...
Bullrope Match for the WWE Championship: John Bradshaw Layfield vs. Batista©
Fun match *** stars.
Smackdown won this week...
But the WWE are the biggest losers:
WWE's legal team has been on a terror as of late by going after anyone and everyone they think might infringe on their copyrights and trademarks, most especially ones concerning ECW. Here are some of the people they have threatened with letters just recently.
WWE have sent a cease and desist letter to Peter Polaco, aka Justin Credible. Apparently, he can no longer use the "Justin Credible" name on wrestling shows anymore.
Johnny Ace recently informed Pete Gruner (Billy Kidman) that he not use the name "Billy Kidman" or "Kidman" on the independent scene when his 90-day no-compete clause expires next month.
The WWE legal team informed the webmaster of Spike Dudley's official website, SpikeDudley.net, that they can no longer use photos of him taken during his WWE tenure on his site. The WWE legal team says it constitutes copyright infringement and threatened him with a $150,000 damage case per photo. Some official WWE photos are still up on the site as of this post, but I'd imagine they'll be taken down sooner rather than later.
Also, the WWE legal team is currently looking at the folks who put together the "Hardcore Homecoming" shows for any potential legal hole they can nail them with. There's nothing specific yet, but WWE is claiming that the shows were infringing on WWE's trademarks and intellectual properties.
Here are some more specific details on the WWE/Dudley Boyz situation....
Mark LoMonica is forbidden from using the names "Bubba", "Buh-Buh", "Bubba Ray Dudley" or "Buh-Buh Ray Dudley" on independent shows and appearances as they caught a company using the name "Bubba" on advertising for a recent New York indie show and then they sent him and the indy promotion cease and desist letters to stop him from using that name or any name similar to his old name for that matter. Devon Hughes cannot use the name "D-Von" or "D-Von Dudley", although they can't stop him from using the name "Devon" as that's his real name. And of course, they can't use or be referred to as "The Dudleys", "The Dudleyz", "The Dudley Boys", or "Dudley Boyz" period.
WWE is also claiming rights to their catchphrases and costumes. They can't wear camouflauge or wrestle wearing glasses. WWE is also not allowing the term "get the tables" be used in advertising for them as a press release was pulled with new phrasing as WWE wouldn't allow the NY indie group to use the term, "get the tables." There is also a possibility that WWE will claim the terms "3-D" and "D-Von, Get the tables", although they can't ban them from using the manuever. WWE is claiming broad rights to everything associated with The Dudley Boyz gimmick.
Hughes and LoMonica have talked about fighting WWE legally because they left ECW with the idea that they owned the rights to their names and gimmick, but it could end up being a costly fight which is why they might not challenge WWE in court. The former Dudleyz are currently brainstorming a new gimmick for the team and they will let TNA know what the gimmick is after they trademark it themselves.

DAMN...
They Might lose there home too:

Bad news for us East Coast fans.
It appears that there will be no more shows at Madison Square Garden this year. I am told by a very reliable source, there is a problem between the WWE and MSG Management. There are no plans right now for 2006 shows either.
This news is very shocking to me, since Capital Wrestling, WWWF, WWF and WWE have been in the Garden for over 60 years.
Known as "the world's most famous arena," Madison Square Garden is a 20,000 seat stadium hosting everything from dog shows to rock concerts to sporting events (Knicks, Rangers, WWE Wrestling)
In a cost-cutting measure, World Wrestling Entertainment is letting go of yet another wrestler from the "Tough Enough" contests. They released the bountiful Nidia back in November, co-winner of the first Tough Enough. Tough Enough 2 co-winner Linda Miles (Shaniqua) was released shortly there after, mostly due to attitude problems. The sultry Jackie Gayda was released in early-July along with her husband in a shocking move. And WWE finally gave up on the poster boy of Tough Enough as Maven was released in July as well. The latest Tough Enough castoff to be let go is none other than Tough Enough 2004 winner Daniel Puder.
Puder being let go is a salary issue and he wasn't even making as much as some people thought he was. He had a $250,000, 4-year contract with WWE, so it could have been $250,000 over four years, not per year. Only the first year was guaranteed though. It was advertised as a $1 million dollar, 4-year contract by WWE when they made the contest, however, it is public fraud on WWE's part and they can get it away it too with the fine print in the contracts they have the participants sign. So when it's all said and done, Puder made between $50,000 and $75,000 for his one year under WWE contract. In comparision, Ashley Massaro will make $250,000 for her first year with WWE.
Despite Puder's 5-digit salary, WWE still deemed it too pricey and so thus they are letting him go, and with 90 days to spare to coincide with the end of his one year guarantee with WWE, which expires in December. Puder has the option of accepting a developmental contract and transfering to the Georgia developmental promotion, however, he'll only make $750 a week. That's the same deal Tough Enough losers Ryan Reeves, Nick Mitchell and Mike Mizanin have. He has not yet made a decision on whether to accept the developmental deal or not as of last word, so there is a possibilty he may stick around to train in the WWE minor leagues, but it's not likely.
Puder was really, really close to being a part of the group of the 20 unfortunate talents to be let go by WWE back in July, but Paul Heyman, Tommy Dreamer and Danny Davis stuck up for him by saying that he wasn't given enough time and that he was working hard on improving. He stuck around in OVW this past summer, but WWE has finally decided to just pull the plug on him and let him go. He may tryout for the next UFC "Ultimate Fighter" competition.
OMG...
Over at TNA:
Spike TV officials, as well as the Candido family will be in attendance at tonight’s Unbreakable PPV.
Speaking of Unbreakable, Cassidy Riley vs. Jerrelle Clark and Shark Boy vs. Mikey Batts are set for the free pre show tonight.
TNA is expected to announce officially that Jushin “Thunder” Liger will be part of the Bound for Glory PPV next month.
Roderick Strong will be getting a good look from TNA tonight. He had been used as an enhancement talent before, but in the last year has really improved and TNA is interested in him.
Also, rumors continue to go around that TNA will be bringing in Homicide sometime after this PPV.
Some INDY News:
1) RICKY REYES def. PUMA via rear choke.
2) CHAD COLLYER def. DAVEY ANDREWS, JIMMY JACOBS, & KEVIN STEEN when he made Davey Andrews tap out to the texas cloverleaf. Said to have a few cool spots.
3) HOMICIDE def. EL GENERICO after an ace crusher & lariat. Homicide dominated most of the match, Generico had a hope spot, but that didn't last too long. Homicide left an inprint of his hand on Generico's chest.
Shingo Takagi makes his way out. Christopher Daniels music hits...but he's nowhere to be found. Then out comes... CURRY MAN!!!
4) CURRY MAN def. SHINGO TAKAGI via the spicy drop. Comedy spot with a push-up contest. Said to be very good. After the match, Takagi talked about Danielson telling him about ROH and said he would like to come back. Daniels also said a few words.
5) NIGEL MCGUINNESS def. SAMOA JOE to WIN the ROH pure wrestling championship. Nigel cheated alot, with closed fist behind the ref's back. Nigel lost a rope break after a chair shot. Joe lost when Nigel hit an ace crusher with his feet on the ropes. After the match, they went to shake hands and Joe kicked him in the head. Joe runs off Nigel with a chair or Nigel runs of Joe with an iron after the match I think, a bit sketchy.
INTERMISSION
6) THE RING CREW EXPRESS OF DUNN & MARCOS def. SHANE HAGADORN & MATT TURNER
7) THE EMBASSY OF SPANKY & JIMMY RAVE def. AUSTIN ARIES & RODERICK STRONG. Strong with some really hard chops in this one. Rave countered a Aries roll-up, Shelley hit Aries with the chair, and Rave won with the roll-up.
8) CIMA def. AJ STYLES. Very good, lots of great mat work. Didn't catch the finish cause he's breaking up alot.
ROH returns to Buffalo on 10/15 with Samoa Joe vs. Nigel McGuinness in a rematch and Gen. Next vs. The Embassy in an anything goes match.
9) JAMES GIBSON def. COLT CABANA to retain the ROH world heavyweight championship via choke. The crowd was in clear favor of Colt Cabana. Really good match with some good high impact moves.
