Guest The Winter Of My Discontent Report post Posted April 30, 2004 I feel as though I've misunderstood the guy. Yes, he's said some ill shit...but who hasn't? I've never read one of his actual reviews, and I probably never will. But his Q & A penetrated a hole in my heart. I feel bad. I agree with his assessment that most of the wrestling y'all think is Godly is actually quite wretchedly boring. Find it in your hearts...way way way down there. Find a place for Coey. Lets rectify this situation and bring him back.

Guest Jay Z. Hollywood Report post Posted April 30, 2004 (edited) Note to Coey: the reason why people aren't the first to say something negative about you is because EVERYONE hates you. Whatever, if he wants to use TSM's main site for a feeble display of ego-stroking like that, that's fine by me. If he needs the respect and appreciation of anonymous wrestling nerds to feel important, and has a compulsive desire to shout to the world he has a bigger...tape collection than everybody, well, that's his issue. That's all I'll say about it. Edited April 30, 2004 by Jay Z. Hollywood

Guest TheZsaszHorsemen Report post Posted April 30, 2004 Can someone please explain Coey's history here, for the benefit of us relative n00bs? He, along with wolverine, created a horrible stigma around the Puro folder that turned it into a target of venom for everyone else on the board. And all he had to do was be a total asshole to anyone who knew just a little less about Puro then he did. I got on his bad side for (gasp!) suggesting that he was taking Joshi matches a little too seriously.
The Ghost of bps21 0 Report post Posted April 30, 2004 Being an asshole to everyone else wasn't even the main problem, as I recall. The main problem was that he acted like the puro folder was his and he should dictate the rules to everyone else. God forbid you ask a question in the wrong place...then you'd be treated to some flaming. He had his supporters in the folder that argued that he "knew his stuff"...but at the end of the day that is not liscence to be an asshole to everyone else. Guest TheZsaszHorsemen Report post Posted April 30, 2004 See above. Hisako opened my eyes to a lot of things - not just Joshi, not just a better way to wrestle, but the inner contradictions we have to live with everyday; the choices we make, even when we know how harmful they can be; the irony that individual greatness comes when one is selfless. I remember JON Burr quoting Kris Kristofferson to describe her: "A pusher and a prophet / Partly truth and partly fiction / A walking contradiction" - if it's not true about her, I don't know who else it's supposed to apply to (besides Johnny Cash). I don't know about the rest of you, but I sit here and watch her work, and I think about "Victory Through Guts," and I think about what she endured, endured to the point of addiction, and I wonder how sick I must be to praise and applaud her accomplishments, knowing what price she had to pay, knowing it's no victory at all to be chewed up, spat out, and thrown away once one's body is absolutely wrecked from the effort - ask Wakizawa about that toll, or ask Momoe, or (may they rest in peace) ask Plum Mariko and Emiko Kado, if you could. And yet, I sit here knowing that I can't have it any other way, because she didn't want it any other way, and somehow that justifies it all, even when it doesn't justify it in the least. I don't know how that makes her my favorite. I guess it just makes her more real, more human, more accessible than all the others, and I find it impossible to turn away from that. This is what prompted me to ask if he was (maybe, just maybe) taking it all a tad seriously.

Guest Dids Report post Posted April 30, 2004 Reading that article, I say yes. The self-important internet knowitall schtick has been done earlier and better. Frankly- I'm not sure it's in the site's and Dame's best interst to have that nonsense on the front page. Guest Dids Report post Posted April 30, 2004 You're not in the "unhealthy obsession with wrestling" folder. Most of the posters here stay clear of the top-side of the forum for exactly that reason.
Guest RickyChosyu Report post Posted April 30, 2004 Last I checked, Hokuto, while just a character in the ring, is a real person. Which is more than can be said for Batman. Funny that you're all just doing what he wants. Also funny that not a one of you would actually say this anywhere where he could respond. And you should try watching wrestling sometime, smart guy; pro wrestling ranks just barely above porn in terms of self-destruction and exploitation. He's right about the 'victory through guts' thing; women aren't physically built to take the punishment that goes on in a wrestling ring, yet quite a few of them do over there anyway. Hokuto was an extreme case of that, wrestling through a broken neck and broken vertebrae. There's a tape you can find where you can watch her take a painkiller shot just so she can go out and work a match in Korea. They do some really fucked up shit, just to go out and get some applause from a crowd that has next to no appreciation for the kind of work they put in and the shit they suffer through. Coey wasn't "taking it too seriously" -- he was talking about the worked and the all-too-real aspects of wrestling. Most people just turn a blind eye to the fact that wrestling is a nasty, nasty lifestyle, because it's easier to rationalize likeing it if you don't have to think about how harmful it can be. Guest RickyChosyu Report post Posted April 30, 2004 No...everyone here likes wrestling. No, everyone here does not like wrestling. Most of the dipshits who look at this folder don't even watch or read the stuff written by anyone here. Guest RickyChosyu Report post Posted April 30, 2004 Looks to me like you did it to moralize to everyone and make shitty references no one's going to get (they're lucky to know who Reagan is, aside from the guy with Alzheimers).
