WWE 24/7 Discussion Thread - January 2008
zappafrank replied to DrVenkman PhD's topic in WWE Multimedia
So am I right in assuming that the Ladder Match dvd isn't being shown in its entirety on 24/7? Does anyone know the matches that made the cut for 24/7? All I really want to see are the 1st 3 matches (Jake Roberts vs. Big Daddy Ritter, Bret vs. Shawn, and HBK vs. Razor II). One of the main reasons I don't buy a lot of these compilations (like The History of the WWE Championship and The Ladder Match) is b/c I have so many of the matches on tape or I saw them on 1st viewing, but if the matches I listed made the cut, I'll definitely check it out. -

Does anyone else have a price tag of $8.99 on the HHH Raw debut (instead of the usual "free with subscription)? I watched it and when the 24/7 bumper started it said, "Thanks for your order." I imagine it should be no problem to get it removed if I do get charged, but I find it amusing that it was HHH of all people. Also, Shorties host Santino says before the HHH match starts that the career of HHH's opponent "John Chrystal" should be "coming along any day now" or similar. Am I crazy in thinking that John Chrystal is actually a younger Santino? We only get 1 good shot of his face at the start of the match, but damned if it doesn't look like Santino. But a quick Wiki search doesn't corroborate this idea at all (esp. since the match was almost 13 yrs ago). Also, what are the chances that canceling 24/7 and then re-subscribing in a few days would actually make for the "2 months free" promotion? -
WWE General Discussion - December 2007
zappafrank replied to Hunter's Torn Quad's topic in The WWE Folder
Sorry I wasn't clearer. "Everyone" refers to members of the dreaded IWC. From the the reviews of the show as it aired to "best of 2007" lists, the moment has been mentioned, and I didn't get it then and I don't get it now. -
WWE General Discussion - December 2007
zappafrank replied to Hunter's Torn Quad's topic in The WWE Folder
This really doesn't belong in "Dec," but there's nowhere else to post this, so... Why in the world does everyone seem to treat HBK's return in Oct as some magnificent moment and some great surprise? When people talk about "things WWE has done right," HBK's return to confront Randy Orton is listed as one of the best things of 2007. I even believe the moment is captured on the "Best of Raw" DVD. What the hell? I like HBK, but was I the only who wasn't at all blown away? I had taped the show, and was rewinding some when I saw HBK standing tall. I thought, "Oh, HBK's back. Cool." I wasn't like "HBK, YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS! OH MY GOD THIS IS THE GREATEST MOMENT IN THE HISTORY OF OUR SPORT AND THEY DID SUCH A GOOD JOB OF CATCHING ME OFF GUARD!!!" It's not like HBK was never returning, and it's not like he had been gone for too long. Ooh, a contracted wrestler returned who had only been off TV for a few months and was expected back at that time, anyway...Why does it seem like so many people got a hard-on for this moment? -

Is Starrcade '92 up yet? I've been getting all my updates, although this last week, the 2 parts of Starrcade '98 were located in 2 different sections (The Big Ones and I think TV Classics). -
Ah, so I guess you're of the school of thought that not winning the MitB match killed Edge's streak.

I attended Armageddon this evening, so here are some thoughts: The crowd was pumped all night. It was a legit sell-out. When the heels got booed, they got BOOED, and when the faces got cheered, they got CHEERED. And for once I was glad we didn't have a "HERE WE GO STEELERS, HERE WE GO!" chant start up (most likely not unrelated to our loss to the Jags...BOOOOO). The dark match was Jesse/Festus vs Miz/Morrison. Jesse and Festus were WAY more over than I thought they would be. I think they have a solid future if they fine tune things. They won, which surprised me since it was non-title and non-televised. I wonder if it will be acknowledged to set up a title match at some point. Lillian sang the National Anthem and was awesome, as expected. In my opinion, things really didn't start getting going until the 3rd match. Rey/MVP was OK, but it felt like it could have been so much more. Rey seems to have that problem these days. The crowd was NOT happy about the count-out ending. The ECW/SD tag match was nothing special, but Kane got a damn nice reception, more intense than I expected (even though it's obvious Kane is over). Punk was well-received, too. The crowd was HOT for the string of matches from HBK/Kennedy through the Women's Title match. Kennedy was soundly and strongly booed, and HBK was what you'd expect. It was a slow match to start, but it got really good once they were flowing. I do think Kennedy should have gone over, though, but aside from that, it was every bit as good as I imagined it would be. HHH/Hardy was a damn good match, and I for one was glad that Hardy won, as he's probably on the cusp of big things. The crowd loved both guys, but the pop when Jeff won was massive. I'm not a huge Jeff Hardy fan, but before I knew it, even I jumped out of my seat cheering for his win. Hornswaggle is over. So is Finlay. Khali didn't look terrible. This was more fun to watch than I thought it would be. And my friend said that body-wise, Khali is kinda hot. She's also in love with Christopher Walken, so take that for what it's worth. Jericho got a pretty good reaction, and by the end of the match the crowd really was under the impression that Jericho might win the title. Everyone around me could tell it was JBL who ran in (sometimes run-in's are hard to see clearly), and the crowd hated it (JBL got booed heavily during his entrance, but in May at the SD taping I seem to remember him getting a good deal of cheers). I didn't expect Jericho to win, but this match was great. I'd let Beth Phoenix beat me up. I might even pay for it. And the match was good for what it was, too. But I spent most of it watching Beth through my binoculars. Jillian got some massive heat, too, actually. The 3-way really should have been longer, and I didn't notice the extra Edges till my friend pointed them out. In 2003 on SD, we had 2 Angles, now we have 3 Edges. But we do it well! I was surprised to see Edge win the title, and although I loved it like mad when he won it in May, I honestly wanted Taker to win it here b/c A) he lost it in Pgh in the 1st place and B) then Edge could win the Rumble to set up Title vs Streak at WM. Nothing much happened after the live feed was cut. Taker walked back to his music, and then Batista slowly walked back, slapping some hands around ringside. This was easily one of the best PPV's of the year, as the stuff that could have been bad (SD/ECW tag, Khali/Finlay) was very watchable, and all the other stuff was solid as expected to pretty damn good. WWE had a dry spell b/w Judgment Day and Unforgiven, but this PPV should easily find it way into the top 1/2 of "best of 2007 PPV's list, maybe even breaking into the top quarter.

Original ECW Taping Dates vs Hardcore TV Airing Dates
zappafrank posted a topic in General Wrestling
I was checking out the past couple of 24/7 ECW shows that I taped, and was watching RVD's debut. I checked the One of a Kind DVD and it has the date listed as 1/5/96, but the 24/7 ep is listed as being from 1/21/96. I've also noticed other discrepancies b/w what past DVD's say and what airs on 24/7 (one of them involved a Rey match, but I can't recall which one; I think it was his debut...the date on one of the ECW dvd's didn't match the date provided for the ep of Hardcore TV on which in the match aired.). Does WWE just use the actual match date for isolated matches on DVD's? But re: 24/7, I'd have to believe that the air date wasn't the same for all markets, seeing as how the show was syndicated. Anyone got any insight? -

Why is MNW only 2 hours and 15 min this week??? I won't get a chance to watch it for a while. Is this just a screw-up? -
Does anyone know when the 1st two Royal Rumble minisets (1: 88 - 92, and 2: 93 - 97) are due to come out? They're listed on the WWE web site, as well as deepdiscount.com, but neither site has release dates.

Taker wins the belt at Armageddon, which is total justice since he lost it here in Pittsburgh back in May (I was at that show...so awesome, and I'm really excited for what's looking to be a great PPV). Edge wins the Rumble. Title/streak on the line at WM (main event only if Taker wins).

Well, it's not like HBK is young enough still to be a Kid or Flair is anything close to being a Boy...
-
I love how Lawler says he figured out the code, that all would be revealed on Monday, right after "Monday" was flashed clearly in the promo.

Did anyone notice Matt Hardy as Jeff got the pin? It looked almost as if he couldn't decide if he should break up Jeff's pin on MVP. I think it might be interesting if they turn Matt at Survivor Series to join up for real with MVP, as I've wondered for a while if this is where the whole idea is heading.

Isn't Booker T's Harlem Heat entrance music public domain? TNA should use it if it is since it's so good (and you know Vince would try to find a way to keep them from using it).

Cuz Bret actually was in on it, duh. (well, I mean, it's *possible*...) -
I'm glad they finally did something with the theme music. The way it was, it sounded WAY too much like "Stop Draggin' My Heart Around" by Tom Petty/Stevie Nicks.

So can you still watch Chris Benoit matches?
zappafrank replied to brokentusk16's topic in The WWE Folder
My friend and I were talking about this the other day. Apparently Hassan went to someone, maybe even Eddie, and said that he didn't want Eddie using the Camel Clutch anymore, since it was "his finisher." Benoit confronted Hassan and asked him who invented the Camel Clutch. When Hassan replied "the Sheik," Benoit corrected him and told him that it was Gory (sp.) Guerrero who invented it. He then proceeded to throw Hassan's gear out of the locker room and made him change in the hallway. -
Why are you mentioning Krystal and Brooke when talking about "the hot ones"? IMO, Brooke was easily the least attractive member of EE, and not even very attractive in her own right, at that. She was just generic and I think actually took away from EE as a plain jane. I do find it amusing, though, that as the least deserving member of EE, she always seemed to act like she was the hottest thing there. She came across as that friend of the really popular girl, trying to ride coattails and simply saying, "Yeah!" whenever the main person/people of the group made a point about something. She was sort of like the Paul Roma or Jeff Jarrett of EE. And hopefully Teddy Long can come back to SD now that Krystal is gone. She added nothing at all to SD.

I seem to recall D'Lo's entrance getting interrupted by the "13" promo, and the announcers were like "What was that?"
-
They should have had his mini-feud with Booker T make it onto PPV. We got a few weeks of grocery store brawling and Booker hiding in church, but ultimately it was filler. They could have had something had the nWo come in (and Booker "membership" doesn't count).

Isn't the official list of Wellness Policy violators/suspendees supposed to be released today?

I'm surprised no one has mentioned how god awful Melina's face came across in that showgirl get-up. She's hit-or-miss with regards to how she looks (esp. b/c of her mouth), and she was definitely a "miss" at the PPV. My table at the restaurant couldn't stop talking about how hideous she was.

When I lived in Atlanta in the mid-late '90's, I worked at the Blockbuster/Wherehouse Music that used to be on Peachtree b/w Buckhead and midtown. WCW wrestlers used to come in all the time, but only when I wasn't there! I came in one day and a co-worker said DDP and Kimberly had come in the day before (when I was off) and he had gotten me DDP's autograph. One of my managers noted that they came in through the exit, and that DDP didn't look especially "out of the oridinary" big to him. Apparently Booker T came in one day, too (I don't think I was there), but I wouldn't have recognized him, anyway, b/c I was just getting into wrestling and only then WWF. I'm guessing this was well before I got into wrestling, since I knew who DDP when he came in. The Steiners did an in-store appearance in '97 or so, but of course, I wasn't there for that, either. I currently live in Pittsburgh, and would loved to have "met" Angle when he got arrested.
