I'm mostly for government staying out of people's private affairs, so long as they aren't causing harm to other people. Because of that, I truly don't care if certain churches choose not to perform gay marriages. The adoption agency story is a bit harder for me to pick a side on, because while it's easy to say that a gay couple could simply use a different agency, when taking into consideration the child's welfare, the question arises of whether it'd be to their benefit to go with a gay couple who happens to be the best match for them (or even the only one that wants them). However, I think simply outlawing gay marriage is a shitty place to draw the line, as it seems far too preemptive in trying to address future concerns. When those issues that can actually effect someone's religious beliefs comes up, the arguments can be handled at that time. Also, while people often choose to experiment to with their sexuality in many ways, the argument that someone who is strictly or mostly gay/straight has any choice in the matter has lost it legs over the past couple of decades. I've personally known quite a few people who would have LOVED to be able change their sexual orientation to save themselves from things such as ridicule, emotional confusion and trauma or even ostracization from their families because they're gay. As it is, it's not something they have control over, nor is it something for which they should be discriminated against.

MMA Comments that Don't Warrant a Thread
Lei Tong replied to RavishingRickRudo's topic in Mixed Martial Arts
Breen mentioned Justin McCully's status as the General MMA Fan's current whipping boy, especially in regards to a status symbol as to how weak the UFC's HW division is, comparing him to Justin Eilers. This, in spite of the fact that he's actually a decent HW, who just so happened to have a terribly boring fight on national TV with a bad hairstyle. -
Can you actually specify what the long term threats to religious freedom are from gay marriage? It all seems very vague. Also, the idea that one can choose whether or not to be homosexual, straight, or anything in between is preposterous.

The Agent of Oblivion question of the day
Lei Tong replied to Lt. Al Giardello's topic in No Holds Barred
I've gotten pretty fucked up before, but I'm not sure anything I've done has been particularly wild or crazy. I'd probably narrow down between: - Walking out of the bar with my pants off (which was also one of my places of work at the time) - Firemen's carrying my much more drunk friend home (luckily just down the street) - Walking around Vegas with a bottle of Jack in my hands, asking women what it would take for them to let me pee in their butts. -
I'm not going to claim that that's bigoted, but I don't really see why anyone would have a problem with that. It's not like hearing such stories is going to turn someone's kid into a homosexual.

Guys on the other board I posted on can't get over how boring MMA is since PRIDE folded, yet are seemingly in love with the show. -

And Cantwell nailed one against the One-Armed Man, but I ain't picking him over someone like Jones anytime soon. EDIT: That's unfair. Cantwell still has room to grow; Brown doesn't. Also, I totally forgot about Lawlor's TUF Finale bout. Ever since my UFC Vault membership expired, it's been easier for me to forget about undercard fights. -

Also, don't sweat Brown much, EHME. Dude could barely outstrike a fatigued Kim, so there's little chance he's going to do so against AJ. -

Cramer I can sort of understand, but Lawlor? I had hoped the UFC was moving past such TUF-centric matchmaking. -
I miss out on so many pro-wrestling related jokes nowadays.

It'd make a better forum slogan. Let's start small.

Beat the ever loving shit out of someone in a non-self defense situation. Intraweb related: Snooped around on my ex to get proof she cheated on me.

Picked up a pint each of Stone Old Guardian Barley Wine and Ruination IPA. I wanted to wait to try them on the weekend so as my buddies can have a taste as well, in the hopes that something will click and they'll stop buying Bud Light all the damn time. How I'd rank Stone's beers that I've tried thus far: 1) Russian Imperial Stout 2) Double Bastard 3) OAKED Arrogant Bastard 4) Arrogant Bastard 5) Stone IPA

FWIW: I come from a Mexican family, with large parts of my family having to deal with some pretty fucked up situations relating to our ethnicity, and none of us have any problem with the comparison.

The most often used argument I've heard is that it would lead to the destruction of the traditional family unit, without which society as we know it would decay. Close second: "It just ain't right." - some redneck at the barbershop

Early favorites (IMO): Team U.S.A. Welterweight: The Hellhouse/Gilbert Grappling/Midwest Training Center/whatever boys (Miller & Knabjian) Lightweight: Wyatt has absolutely no faith in any of the Ohio guys this season, so I'll say DeFranco just because. Team U.K. Welterweight: Amarasinghe & Wilks Lightweight: Winner I'll probably have a better idea of who to favor once I see how they handle themselves in the prelims.

It could go either way. Neither has a very good chin (though Grove's is definitely worse), but Gouveia simply does not fight well defensively, and is usually unable to come back from any sort of adversity. Grove definitely has the skill set to make Wilson look bad, but it's really hard to know how his chin will hold up if Gouveia finds it. Neer/Pellegrino is interesting for the fact that Pellegrino will likely put it on Neer early on, but Neer is hardly the type of guy to wilt, and will force Pellegrino to fight every inch of the way. Pellegrino isn't quite the one-round fighter he used to be, but there's still questions how well he can handle pressure for an extended period of time (which neither Tavares nor Emerson could offer). -

No. Whenever money's involved (betting on fights, card games) I usually turn an early profit before giving everything back and then some. -

A bit, but it's all good. I just didn't want to think you were dissing Nakakura. -
The black's and also, super-religious Mexicans. Coincidentally, many of the particularly religious Latinos I know who voted yes on 8 were Mormon.

It's bad enough Prop. 8 passed, but now its advocates are pushing for the 18,000 or so gay marriages performed in the state to be invalidated. Two former coworkers who married are currently pretty freaked out and rightfully upset that their marriage would be considered invalid, and it really pisses me off to think think that a majority of Californians would consider their marriage as some sort of detriment to anyone else's. I think gay marriage will eventually gain wider acceptance, though that hardly makes the current situation anymore palatable.

I think that's a bit harsh. Nakakura can't help it that Shooto is a bit more insular nowadays, but he's doing the best one could ask against the best Shooto fighters he can face, which is more than one could say about the reigns of most of Shooto's previous welterweight champions. -
I dislike Wlad & Vitali, though I used to like Wlad until he became a total fucking bore in the ring and had a shitty excuse for every loss that he ever had. Vitali, despite the bitching over the Lewis fight, awkwardness in the ring and favoritism he's enjoyed from the WBC & Ring Magazine, has made the most of what he has, which is more than I can say for his brother right now.
