Tonight's ShoXC show was a complete clusterfuck, with questionable reffing, an extended break for a mouthpiece search & rescue, Jason Guida making a fool of himself on national television for the second time in a month, and a main event being partly decided by an uncalled knee to the groin. And all of that is to say nothing of having to listen to Mauro & Quadros commentating for 2 hours (nor Quadros horrible post-fight interviews). -
Eric was pretty cool but I'm even more interested to see who the "she" Bill referred to in episode three is. I was thinking "she" was the one from last episode that bit Bill. I was actually thinking of the vampire activist on Real Time with Bill Mahr in the series' opening episode, as I'd imagine she must have some clout in the vampire community to be the public champion for their case for equal rights. With that in mind, it would also seem that she'd be extremely disapproving of the way the Malcolm's group carries on.

WEC's bantamweight division is quickly become the MMA world's answer to boxing's dominance in the of area of Mexican-on-Mexican violence. NOTE: No Tamura love, simply because I'd likely be wasting my breath until anyone else sees him fight, too.

I was right about Nelson being out of his depth against the other Big 3 at LW, but unless Efrain's front headlock game is as good as Nog & Junie alluded to, I don't see him having much chance of beating Nover or Browning. Browning's an annoying shit who should've been kicked off the show or recieved an unpunished ass-whooping from any roommate willing.

Oh, yeah. Diaz gets dropped a fair bit actually. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and assume that he was talking about his ability to absorb punishment and keep going. -

I don't think the fact that Diaz was or can be cut is under dispute. It's the idea of whether Alvarez will be able to stop him or not. -
I'm not rooting for Peter as much as I'm rooting against Vitali. I would've been just as content had Rahman smashed him in anyof the cancelled bouts.

Yeah, the Fickett fight was one sided. Mostly consisted of Diaz landing G&P against the cage, IIRC. -

Do you mean "take (Diaz) out" literally? Because the only dude to ever successfully do that (outside of Noons' cut) was Jeremy Jackson, and that was based largely on Nick being caught off guard and Jackson having better boxing than just about anyone Diaz has faced. That isn't to say that Alvarez can't or won't mess Diaz up, but finishing him is another story. -
' It doesn't bother me any, as rematches and rubber matches are hardly the realm of pro wrestling only. Of course, that's assuming that the two have a fight which warrants a (relatively quick) rematch, much less split the two bouts.

I know you're probably pleased about this, but I was pretty disappointed because I had high hopes for Thierry. I've actually been helping him with this fight (not much, but we did some wrestling together and some footwork drills also. He was getting really good at cutting off the ring) and I've seen him work with Firas for a few weeks now and he looked like a man possessed. His striking was unreal and his speed and timing with the mitts was awesome. I thought he was gonna knock out Hioki who seems to have a tendency to be lackadaisical, and I was almost right. A shame, really. I'm glad Hioki won as I have a total mancrush on the guy, but it sucks that it came at Thierry's expense. I didn't know he was your boy, and if he did, I probably would've been able to handle the idea of him taking Hioki's head off easier. Hioki's been fancying himself a striker for too long, and I was worried he was going to get beat up a la the Takaya fight. The irony is that not that long ago he fucking smoked Baret on the mat, yet still doesn't realize that that's where he needs to keep fights. -
that'sracist!.gif Fucking dothead.
-
Also, why is everyone freaking out over YPOV dropping the N word? Y'all acting like you've never had to deal with a racist Tamilian before.
-
YPOV never said that freakshows don't draw; he simply said that it's a stupid model to base your business on, much like (I think) AboveAverage mentioned earlier. I won't argue one way or another, simply because I don't really care. I've admitted before that I have no interest in MMA becoming anymore successful than it is, and it's not really worth reposting the same reasons. However, for what it's worth, I was relatively accurate in my prediction of events while everyone else was freaking out over EliteXC getting a network TV slot. Also, bringing up the IFL, who tried to use a team concept as one of their main drawing points, as an example of a company promoting pure fighting is inaccurate. On the other side of things, if personality and interest generated from outside the fights themselves is all it takes to succeed, then Iron Ring would've been a huge success. I can't speak for anyone else, but it seems that as of late your interest in MMA seems almost entirely on the business side of things. For as much as I give guys like Rudo & Curry shit for their occasional pro-wrestling approach to watching MMA, they can often give in depth analysis of the the fights and fighters themselves, independant of how charismatic or popular a fighter is. I think to most guys who watch MMA and bother to waste their time to post about in on a message board (*raises hand*), the business end side of things is, at most, a means to an end: the more popular MMA gets, the more money there is to spend on quality fighters, and more fights there are available to watch. At the end of the day though, if that success comes at the expense of quality of fights and the legitimacy of the competitive nature of the sport, you can expect a backlash from members of the community, similar to what's happened to boxing from time to time. And, for the record, I haven't paid attention to the ratings for almost any MMA promotion in almost a year, so I'll be enjoying (or not) the next Ultimate Fight Night largely on the merits of the fights themselves.

Could you please explain why I would wish to kill myself over this? Is it because I think there has to be a significant secondary promotion in MMA? This would make me a Kimbo fanboy? It was aimed more at your boner for Elitexc. you seemed to want theem to succeed, just like numerous other fans for numerous promotons before, simply because theyre NOT the ufc. do i think more competition for the ufc would be nicE? of course. but that doesn't mean i'm going to jock any promoton that comes along for that reason alone. I said before that Elitexc does a very good job of turning me off to their product, things which theyve taken few steps to correct. iwould've been happy had the WFA in either form become a nother big northa american promotion, but shit happens. so is this supposed to be a shot at me liknig obscure fighrters? i'll readily admit that my mma fandom is of an elitist ilk, but to my mind that's much more tolerable than making sure i only like guys everyone else likes, or that are recognizable on a household scale. what the fuck does kimbo's appeal to retards have to do with me? seriously, its an annying mma fan that gets more stoked for shamrock/kimbo than faber/pulver, or gives more of a shit about how well a guy can give an interview than fight. EDIT- are you fucking serious? an mma fight has to be a money maker for you to care about it? fighters having good fights IS what mma is about, popular or not.
-
To be fair, it's not like this is the most embarassing moment Kimbo's ever had... I mean, Sean Gannon beat him up.
-
Two in a row would seem too meanspirited. Maybe after more whiskey.

I wonder if Hawk52 is ready to hang himself.

Kobald isn't bad, but not very good either. And records hardly tell the whole story about a fighter: Wayne Weems has a nice looking record, but he sucks shit.
-
And why is this Wanting to see Ken Shamrock fight nowadays is like wanting to see Arnold Palmer still play golf, except for every shot Arnold misses, he gets punched in the face.
-
I'm laughing my ass off at all the people who are probably legitimately pissed that they won't get to see Shamrock fight. To whomever asked: Petruzelli currently competes as a LHW (and formerly HW), but he's likely in the 210+ range after rehydrating from his weight cut.

Sounds like Hioki lived up to the unofficial "Iron Broomstick" moniker, surviving an early knockdown to submit Thierry Quenneville via traingle choke in the 1st round of his TKO fight last night. The other result that jumped out at me was TJ Grant apparently beating Forrest Petz handily, winning via arm-triangle in the 2nd round. Petz isn't a world beater by any means, but he's a solid fighter, and taking him out in the distance is no easy feat. -
Quick main card picks: - Rua is actually too well-rounded to make a loss to him truly embarassing enough for Radach, so Benji probably pulls it out via KO in the 2nd, only to be then submitted in his next bout... by Pete Spratt. - Kobald is simply being brought in so her handlers can say "See? Gina can beat people her own size!," nevermind that Kobald is likely to be rusty as all hell and was never good to begin with. Kobald makes it to the second on account of hilariously amateurish 3 minute rounds, while Cyborg wonders if being too murderously awesome in her own bouts is counterproductive to securing a future bout with Carano. - Unless you're banking on a serious Arlovski meltdown (which isn't entirely hard to imagine against anyone), the idea that Nelson brings any skill with which to challenge Arlovski, outside of being hard to KO, is laughable. His best bet is to Leben his way into a counterpunch and hope that breaks Andrei mentally before the ref decides he needs to save Nelson's life. - If Shields were a worse wrestler and grappler than he is... Daley would still probably lose. As is, Shields is a solid wrestler and world class BJJ practitioner, so Daley losing via another quick submission is the likely outcome. - Don't care. Going for drinks after Shields/Daley.

For as appealing as the notion of Kimbo epic-failing on national TV as horrified ProElite execs look on is, I still can't bring myself to root for Shamrock, who's an irredeemable douchebag and bonafide moron. Of course, an Arrichion-esque conclusion would be awesome.

Thats weird, cus your BUTT buddy Jordan Breen absolutely loves womens MMA. White people are weird.
