Gatekeepers can be comeptitive, but they'll almost always lose to guys above their level much like Lytle has (Riggs, Karo, Hughes). -
Didn't War Machine get signed to a ridiculously long contract recently? Apparently, Joe Silva hasn't seen much of Yoshida either if he expects anything except War Machine to get elbowed into pieces. Also, Wellisch has lost to the likes of Soa Palalei & MOTHERFUCKIN' POWER WARRIOR, so Carwin should win. That being said, Carwin hasn't shown me that he's much beyond a slightly more evolved Waterman at this point.

It's not like Tavarez looked so great against Omigawa aswell... Both struggled against him, and both won very unimpressive desicions. Using that fight as an example to explain your case isn't really the right way to go about it. Matt Wiman is always game, and is a tough opponet... Although Tavarez should win, he won't blow by Wiman with ease. The difference is that Omigawa wasn't making Tavares look like a helpless nerd at any point in their matchup, while Wiman was simply eating punches at several points of their bout, the endpoint being that Wiman's striking is pretty mediocre, which I think Tavares can exploit. Add the fact that Wiman isn't likely to control the ground game, I think it makes the winner pretty easy to pick. -

Despite what Joe Rogan would have people believe, Wiman hardly looked like a fuckbeast against Omigawa, and his stand-up got exposed pretty badly. I don't think there's a single area of the game that Wiman holds an advantage over Tavares. -

You forget that Barnett has also struggled to put away Yuki Kondo (despite mounting him the first), been outstruck by Takahashi, and his submission skills can at times be as awkward as the shoot fighters he constantly fellates. Oh, and Barnett trying to figure out how to finish off a kneebar while Yoshida is literally to tired to do anything about was equal parts sad and humourous. Yeah, but the Steve Williams back drop more than made up for that, IMO. Only Menjivar has pulled off a proper Homicide Backdrop Driver in MMA. -
It was likely both of us. Anyways, verbally abusing a fighter is one thing, but the idea that people would actually assault a fighter of the outcome of a sporting match? Not even on my uncles' drunkest days could I imagine them wanting to jump Whitaker for practically beating Chavez.

Wait... are you guys joking around, or are fans actually likely to be that stupid about a GSP loss?

Which is related to why I have a hard time considering Cote as a viable contender at this juncture.

Not a bad night, except for Kongo & Herring showing some of the most laughable grappling prowess since Pancrase's early days.

Rumour is Paul Daley is retiring after his next fight. My guess is that he didn't want to be molested by a decent grappler on national TV.
-
No one has cared about Bob Sapp stateside since they waited for his Real Sports segment to end.

He generates the most interest, and name value... So why not? They want ratings, and Kimbo gives it to them. His name value right now is directly proportional to how much he can get fed scrubs to look good against. After Shamrock, where does he go? Fans care about Kimbo jacking up names like Tank & Shamrock; not so much guys like "Warpath." When he beats Ken, fans are going to expect to see someone worth putting on TV against Kimbo, and it's likely to be someone who'll expose him for his inexperience. If so, Kimbo gets embarassed. If not, then EliteXC simply looks as ridiculous as they have already, only on a much larger scale. Also, while EliteXC has some legitmately talented fighters, they simply don't have enough at this point to make interesting fights for any extended period of time outside of the middleweight division. And much like with Kimbo, their current crop of seemingly pre-annointed standard bearers are quite the fragile bunch. Outside of Shields (who luckily is fighting guys flawed enough to end fights before he stink up the place), most of their favorites have been embarassed or exposed to some extent relatively recently. What happens when another slugger touches Silva or Noons up, or Daley gets guillotined yet again? I'll admit that maybe it's just me, but I fail to see who jumps out from thier current roster that'll keep people interested past a brief novelty period.
-
You think that it would be in Elite XC's best interest to have Kimbo anchor their network TV shows? ...really?

Well, let's give him credit. He's only like... the fourth guy to outstrike Diaz. That's got to be worth something. -
I know it as a front choke, though it usually only works if the other guy isn't very good.
-
Kimbo would get embarassed by just about anyone from Hardonk on up.

Any and all of Boetsch's awesomeness comes via osmosis due to his loss to Vladdy. Need evidence? One word: teep. -

That's eerily similar to how my amateur fight went (I lost). -
That was before Silva stopped punching like a 60-year-old Wing Tsung expert with only his jab having much power.

Stealing year-old references of mine? Weaksauce, Rudo.
