On further thought, Matt Skelton has made a pretty good transition to boxing, but I still stand by my opinion that Mirko wouldn't stand much of a chance with a shot Tyson in a boxing match.
-
Pretty much. People forget how different the sports (K-1, boxing & MMA) are in terms of strategies and skillsets, and the fact that boxing draws from a much deeper athletic talent pool than pretty much any other combat art. Off the top of my head, the last time a great K-1 striker fought a pro boxer worth half a shit, Chester Hughes mauled Ray Sefo in about 45 seconds, and Ray's boxing is much, MUCH better than Mirko's.

Not even close.

Short answer: No. Long answer: Fuck no.

The lost to Illoukhine was pretty much bullshit since Micha is a dirty fucking cheater, but Overeem was pretty much the same size and Enson was even smaller. And yes, Randy was a HW in each fight.

Or could fight off of their backs.

What the hell kind of drugs are you on lately? -
Quick thoughts: - Koscheck is still by far the best prospect in MMA, though I kind of expected him to be past the "half nelson as a submission" phase of the wrestling to MMA transition. Oh, and he'd still skullfuck Diego in a rematch. - Lister's head-to-body ratio is even more recockulous at MW. Also, this fight basically shows that he's still nothing special, as any good Jew Jeetz guy would've gotten Sasaki out of there. Though, the upside is that Sakara looks even worse in the end, thus vindicating my longtime skepticism even more. - Leben's still Leben, and unfortunately for Santiago that means he's a pretty dangerous guy to trade wild punches with. Pretty "meh" fight otherwise. - JVF/Rigg getting airtime instead of pretty much any of the other undercard fights is pure shit. - Speaking of the undercard, Torres basically proved alot of people wrong, as it sounds like he handled Healy easily. Pat's not a top-level fighter, but he's tough and experienced, and tooling him in the 1st is a good win. Meanwhile, O'Brien did what he was supposed to and dominated Midoux, while Kampmann/Wallace sounded entertaining while it lasted. - I hate Diego, but I must admit that he: is damn entertaining; is a Top 5 WW; and he won that fight. That stupid wetback has some insane, Hansen-level cardio, and Karo simply couldn't keep up with his pace, assumedly because he's a cocky Armenian bastard who didn't take his training seriously enough. However, I think this fight is pretty much where Diego plateaus, as Karo had arguably the weakest stand-up of any of the Top 5 WW's, and showed before he gassed that Diego could be put in bad positions and roughed up a bit. Cue YPOV telling me how I'm underestimating him.

You think the slugger with a history of mental hiccups is more likely to beat Cote than the BJJ blackbelt Lutter? Common. Also, I'm glad as hell Clementi lost, as the dude's always been a whiny douchebag and strictly average fighter. Now to top it off, I learn he's simply not very intelligent. "He's greasy!" ...no, Rich. Shonie's biggest strength is being very tough to submit. Ask Serra next time you're stacked against the cage. -

But are you TUF enough to be away from your family, live with the mental equivalent of 12 year olds, and listen to Dana White's voice for 6 weeks? DO YOU WANNA' BE A FUCKING FIGHTER?! -
I hold GSP's strategy against him because if fights were always fought by guys trying not to lose... well, MMA would fucking suck. Not only that, I think he really could've done more considering how little BJ was showing later in that fight. BJ's guard game has never been that dangerous, and yet GSP seemed to have nothing in him to open up offensively once he scored a few takedowns. Just a dissapointing fight on many levels.
-
I still think GSP/Penn is a pretty weak match all things considered. BJ's activity level after the 1st round topped out when he tried to jump over a GSP low-kick, and the match was basically decided on a couple of takedowns. Pretty weaksauce considering everyone expected a back & forth war or intricate technical battle. Grove/Herman is still my sentimental pick, as though not as technically sound as Mamoru/BJ, it had much more drama, and the numerous close calls had me shouting wildly on several occassions.

Technically speaking, Jackson is on par in the stand-up department, though the size difference obviously makes that a non-factor. Also, I'm looking forward to Cote's, Dewees' & Rivera's reactions to Leben getting smashed rather easily by Anderson Silva. -
Lister is going to sub Sasaki quick style, and Koscheck is going to smash Goulet by being better at almost everything than Cummo, so look for the quick JVF/Riggs fight to make air, and possibly Kampmann & Wallace beating the crap out of each other.

*dickish hyena cackle* But I'll concede that the fight was far too long ago to matter much nowadays, if you concede that your love for St. Pierre borders on homosexual. EDIT: before this can be turned around on me, there's approximately 3 guys per weight class that I have admitted homosexual feelings for.

Ivan Menjivar did high-crotch him good, though.

Standing, Stout should outpoint Yves easily, as Yves hasn't looked impressive against another good striker in what seems like ages. Also, despite having skills there, Yves is nowhere near as good a top position Jew Jeetz guy as Florian, so all hope for Stout is not lost even if Yves starts shooting early and often. -

On second thought, I see how the possiblity of a countryman's victory over an underachieving former Top 10 lightweight could seem exciting to a canuck. -
