...actually, people have been bitching because Dana has until recently largely ignored international fighters in favor of domestic ones. Now it looks like they're ready to start sewing seeds for more foreign fighters to come in and compete, and as long as properly marketed, could still appeal to the casual fan. But yeah, what are you on about White being some uber-fight geek matchmaker? Aoki/Karo wasn't signed, last I heard. -

Newton should lose to Manhoef based solely on the fact that he's never been anything at MW, not mention that he's been on th shelf for a long while. Also, even if Penn were in instead of Taiei fuckin' Kin, K-1 would've still kicked one of the other fighters out to bring in a total can for Akiyama to beat. -

I spent 8 years studying Kempo, and I can honestly tell that I can't remember for the life of me. -
Heel hook =/= ankle lock =/= toehold, etc.

A big, snobbish grin to all those who thought K-1's MW tournament wouldn't blow, as BJ isn't participating (unsuprisingly), and so the line-up is: Melvin Manhoef vs. Carlos Newton Shungo Oyama vs. Rodrigo Gracie Yoshihiro Akiyama vs. Taiei Kin Kazushi Sakuraba vs. Kestutis Smirnovas In regards to UFN 6: - Forrest Petz vs. Sam Morgan has been added - Yuki Sasaki vs. Dean Lister & Eddie Sanchez vs. Jake O'Brien are rumoured - Kalib Starnes & Michael Bisping are scheduled to compete -
If you had seen Lambert flex his four pack as a beer belly jiggles beneath it, you would never want to see him again.

Well, Frye is naturally about 6'1, 205lbs, but basically roided himself all the way up to 245lbs during the latter half of his career, so yeah, he was big.

Word is KID Yamamoto is putting MMA on hold to focus on wrestling. -
I doubt the winner of the Bonnar/Griffin match is above Lambert for a title shot, especially since both are coming off of losses.

Gono wins the Mousasi lottery because PRIDE probably loves his new gimmick. Chonan gets Filho because his eye is still fucked up and Filho's the fighter least likely to actually... you know, punch him. Misaki fights Henderson because he's the most likely of the Japanese fighters to be able to take him out. Suloev faces Kang because the Japs don't give a shit about either. -

The only thing that would've happened with more stand-ups that night would be more takedowns. -
The BUSHIDO shows are often pretty good, but I've been apathetic about regular PRIDE cards for a while now. Also, the next UFC should be much better than this one, entertainment-wise.

Early Pancrase guys were basically all a bunch of catch-as-catch-can style submission fighters. As mentioned earlier, they tended to be of a higher quality than most of the karate/kung-fu/taekwondo stylists fighting back then, but weren't on the same level as most of the good Brazilians, Russians & Europeans.

Ask HTQ. He usually posts ratings & buyrate stuff from it, though I'm sure he could do more. -
It's weird: Shields often doesn't work when he should, and Terrell often works when he shouldn't. Terrell's style has bit him in the ass before, if only once. Okami could probably do pretty well at WW due just to his height, reach & takedown D, though Hughes, GSP & Karo would still beat him. Also, outside of wrestlers, cutting weight is pretty foreign an idea to Japanese fighters, since they often feel that being comfortable and semi-successful at one weight is better than straining yourself and doing better at another.
-
Well, saying Shields is a less effective version of Terrell is a bit off, as though both are BJJ'ers, they have very different strengths & strategies. Terrell has better stand-up, is bigger, stronger, and more explosive. Shields, however, is a better wrestler, has better ground control, can fight more effectively off his back and has shown more ability to handle deep fights and adversity. Okami IS a small MW who could cut to WW, but he's shown enough strength to deal with true (if not top class) middleweights. He's relatively well rounded, though he isn't an offensive threat of his back, and his best weapon his probably his G&P. He's one of the Japanese who could really adapt well to the cage & elbows. He'll be a good gatekeeper level guy, though i don't see him troubling Franklin/Marquardt/etc.

Nathan Quarry- Pete Sell Chris Leben- Patrick Cote and Jorge Rivera Josh Koscheck- Ansar Chalangov Kenny Florian-Sam Stout Diego Sanchez-Nick Diaz Mike Swick-Joe Riggs Josh Burkman-Josh Neer and Drew Fickett Joe Stevenson-Yves Edwards This also isn't including good fighters people beat before they they started fighting in the UFC (Forrest defeated Sonnen, Monson & Braga), or TUF guys who have fought other skilled TUF fighters (Evans vs. Bonnar).

Even his most ardent fans will tell you that Liddell isn't the most technically proficient striker in MMA, but he still has years of training and his skill level is far beyond that of your average bar-room brawler. He also has incredible natural punching power, a good chin, and a decent amateur wrestling background that aids his takedown defense and uncanny ability to scramble back to his feet from the ground. Overall, I'd say that while he does get a lot of mileage out of his natural gifts and abilities, he's definitely had to fine-tune those skills over the years to become the fighter he is nowadays (he's been competing for over 8 years now, not counting the time spent training kickboxing, wrestling, et.c beforehand).

Dude, Wanderlei got his black belt in that time. The guy is now automatically the fucking shit on the ground.

You're right, and the rest are put to pretty cliche fuckin' music. "Chop Suey!?" Common.

Actually, most people agree that Babalu is probably the best he's ever been since he began training with Gracie Barra.
