Ryan Bennett died in a car accident yesterday at the age of 34. R.I.P. -
The match I was talking about is the first one on American Dragon's best of DVD from Ring Of Honor, I'm not sure what match its from. They started the match working for MMA style submissions. Granted it was a work and they reversed each other more times than you'll see in Carlos Newton vs Sakuraba fight. I'm a big MMA fan and I do realize that it wouldn't never be legit like that. But for the casual Ultimate Fighter fan who don't understand "real groundfighting" they might prefer to watch a "worked groundfight" A. Because they are a mark B. They don't have the patience for MMA The thing is, the average mark who doesn't have the patience for groundfighting isn't going to stick with MMA anyways, so it's hardly like they're stealing away a hardcore or even a casual fan as much as someone who was probably never going to be part of the MMA fanbase, and most harcore MMA fans will simply not accept something that isn't the real deal. Angle/Puder is the only time in recent memory that a large number of MMA fans were interested in something going on in the pro wrestling community, and that was largely because it was the idea of one of "us" going against one of "them" in a real situation, which couldn't realistically happen on a regular basis.

I highly doubt it. At the end of the day, the difference between a shoot style pro-wrestling match & an actual MMA fight is huge, and will appeal to different tastes.

MMAWeekly referred to Dong Sik Yoon as Japanese. James Hirth thinks Wiuff is still an awesome Lightheavyweight, despite getting subbed by Easy Tappings, who by the way is gonna' beat Jamal "Badass Sub Grappler Who Already Bitched Horwich & Wiuff" Patterson. I REALLY fucking hate MMA journalism. -

I'd call it an upset since Silva is piss-scared of takedown artists with no stand-up. -

More or less. Fujita looked rather defleated in his comeback fight, and his takedowns & control aren't exactly unstoppable, even when juiced to the gills. On the other hand, the Chute Boxe team has shown that there isn't a weight they can't swell to. Also, while Fujita has an iron chin, he doesn't necessarily like eating tons of shots in succession, and could possibly be flustered by Wanderlei punching him all night. Top it off with a lack of finishing skills, and an upset is very possible. -

Best MMA fighters by country: United States - Matt Hughes Canada - Georges St-Pierre Mexico - Miguel Gutierrez Brazil - Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira Russia - Fedor Emelianenko (don't bother crying about him being born in the Ukraine) Cuba - Hector Lombard Argentina - Diego Vitoski Bahamas - Yves Edwards Angola - Joao Roque Japan - Norifumi Yamamoto South Korea - Un Sik Son New Zealand - Mark Hunt Peru - Tony DeSouza Ukraine - Igor Vovchanchyn Belarus - Andrei Arlovski Germany - Chalid Arrab Greece - Stefanos Miltsakakis Armenia - Karo Parisyan Afghanistan - Romie Aram Australia - Ian Schaffa Mongolia - Blue Wolf England - Michael Bisping France - David Baron Spain - Daniel Tabera Norway - Joachim Hansen Croatia - Mirko Filipovic Finland - Sauli Heilimo Denmark - Lars Besand Sweden - Per Eklund Latvia - Kestutis Arbocius Lithuania - Remigijus Morkevicius Georgia - Tengiz Tedoradze Italy - Alessio Sakara Holland - Alistair Overeem Switzerland - Augusto Frota South Africa - Trevor Prangley MSIA's list (though I nominated Gutierrez). Personally, even though he's winless, I'd say Sumiyabazar is better than Blue Wolf/Serjbudee, and would probably put Shaolin in Minotauro's place. -

Newton hasn't fought since Chonan beat him nearly 2 year ago. He had a number of problems, including a mediocre training team, school, having to cut massive weight to make 170lbs, and not having the skill to compete at 185lbs. -

...you haven't seen Spratt's UFC fights, even? Dude, you're cheating yourself out of some hilarity. -

As LotC just mentioned, the UFC was looking to get away from pro-wrestling style entrances, and instead went for ones similar to boxing. -
Leben actually doesn't have the power many people think he does. As I've mentioned a few times now, it comes more from the fact that he's a southpaw who unleashes blind punches on guys too busy hitting his exposed chinned. Whenever someone doesn't actively engage him in such a manner (Koscheck, Florian, Luigi), he struggles. I think Anderson's too seasoned a striker to fall into that trap, though he'll struggle to dent Chris' chin before he can get a takedown (assuming he goes for it).

ADCC '05 had a decent crowd.

I don't really want to make a solid choice between Leben/Silva, because they're both good and yet so flawed as to make a number of things possible. Anderson via Unanimous JD is the safest best.

Horinaka won on 3 takedowns worth 1 point each, from what I've heard he didn't engage Jean Jacques on the ground for long at any point so JJ didn't even have the chance to rack up points for sub attempts (which were worth 3 points). Meh. Aoki would've simply broken Hironaka's arm again had he tried that with him. Silva apparently was "pacing himself" in that fight actually. He could have went out to finish and went hard but he chose to pace himself so he could 1) test his cardio that he'd been training up for the tournament 2) be able to rest after a half-rate performance before giving a 100% performance against Rampage. You can feel free to dismiss this but it's what Silva told my buddy who attended his seminar last year so even though it may be a bit of a BS for a poor performance but there's probably some truth to it. It still doesn't explain his lack of effort in the rematch. Also, considering a good number of Brazilians would be willing to work fights between teammates, it's not much of a stretch to think Silva would intentionally take it easy on Yoshida for some reason. -

Silva's fear of guys who want to dry hump him (Tito, Yoshida & Arona) is pretty well known by now, though I still think that falls under the "mailing it in" banner, as he'll usually do just enough to win, if not even that. Of course, there're other things that still don't sit well with me (practically pulling guard against Yoshida's bum rush, lack of hip movement in the second fight), but I'll refrain from making any bold statements. I do still think that Tamura threw his fight with Yoshida, though. -
Koscheck was impressive in the Diego fight, but I thought Diego clearly won it. Though, Koscheck could easily take a rematch nowadays, and possibly stop Deigo using nothing but legkicks.

I'm of the opinion that Silva basically mailed in his performances against Yoshida. The reason(s)? Who knows? -

The weight loss is on account of him being an overrated asshat. ...ok, there's no actual evidence connecting those two things, but still. -
Flying knee & clothesline > Andre Roberts Special Also, despite still having shit defense standing, I hope people will finally shut the fuck up about Gonzaga being boring due to one fight with extraordinary circumstances.

I wanted to mention the Kuniyoshi Hironaka defeated JJ Machado in a submission wrestling match yesterday on points. Why do I mention this? 1) To point out how good some of the Japanese BJJ'ers are getting. 2) To show how much Shinya Aoki rules by proxy. Full results: LA SUB-X Quick Results
