This one is all Vince's fault. The escape rule was put in for some retarded reason, and killed the premise of the match. Although it does still serve as a mild deterrent to a gang run-in. The escape rule dates well before Vince Jr. took over the promoter. If you watch Bruno Sammartino cage matches, it's very sensible. "It's just you and me, no referee, no interference. The last man standing walks out with the win." The problem is that is anti-climatic, and it was inevitable that promoters would book more creative finishes, Vince or no Vince. What gets me is when cage matches have Australian tag rules. Sting/Flair vs. Funk/Muta at Halloween Havoc '89. It's no DQ, win by surrender only. Why are you bothering with tags? I see what you're saying, but at least in that match... it ended up as a Texas-Tornado style match by the end. I like to believe both teams decided to go at it with the regular rules at first before saying to hell with it.

Not sure if this is done before, but I'm going to start a running list of real-life examples showing how big a wrestling fan you might be. My entry to start things off: -I was photographing a birthday party tonight and the theme was "Pink and Black". More than once in the evening, I thought of multiple Hart Foundation references.

I concur, last week as we were clearing out my store for final closeout, we had this huge ladder, I did infact feel like doing a moonsault off it onto a coworker or costumer. Fortunately, I am not too keen on climbing ladders and heights, plus am not athletic enough to do a moonsault. Does doing a bad Savage impersonation everytime I am at a graduation count? Count me in the group that does a Savage impression either out loud or in my head every time I hear "Pomp and Circumstance".

I'm paraphrasing here... but Mick Foley talked about this during a Roundtable episode once. He said Matt Bourne told him one time, in regards to a heel cheating... it's not because you have to do it... it's because you want to do it.

WrestleMania Roundtable Part Three: The Middle Years
Diamonddust replied to King Kamala's topic in General Wrestling
XIII is kind of poetic: In the midst of an utterly poor Wrestlemania, one of the most important matches of all time in terms of influence and "game-changing ability" happens. The bulk of what the WWE became in the following years stem from this Wrestlemania, well, that one particular match. -
They don't, and the topic of who owns the hodgepodge of Memphis footage has been discussed in the past... however, they have gotten around it in other instances. Heck, they could have at least made a mention of it even without the video.
-
I agree with you on the Memphis part, yet the WWE left that out in the announcement video. I was kind of surprised they glossed over his work during that period.
-
Yeah... and people in the Turner kingdom wanted wrestling off the air long before Time Warner came aboard. Turner himself kept it on the air because wrestling helped TBS grow in its early years.

The 25th Anniversary of WrestleMania Thread
Diamonddust replied to DrVenkman PhD's topic in The WWE Folder
Or Charlie Haas comes out to the Ultimate Warrior's music and beats him in like 10 seconds. -
Interesting angle that never came to be as described by the 2/3/92 Observer: And since this edition highlighted the plans for the double-main event at WM8, I thought this was funny:

Funny line from the latest Observer archive edition (2/3/1992) in reference to the Cactus Jack/Van Hammer Falls County Anywhere match at the most recent Clash of Champions: -

The fact that Rey isn't on a card in Houston, an extremely large Hispanic market, is also puzzling. -
WrestleMania Roundtable Part Two: Out With The Old, In With The New
Diamonddust replied to King Kamala's topic in General Wrestling
No way. Lucas Oil Stadium is beautiful and even bigger than the Hoosier Dome. I expect them to have it there at some point. It might have been the most recent Observer, but apparently Indianapolis is the front runner for 2011. -
I think it's even scarier that I remembered it as soon as I started the quiz, yet I missed a couple of well known winners like:
-
I remembered, but I couldn't remember the champion was listed as . I think I ended with 48 overall.

He's turned down the offer before. He's afraid of what he would have to give up in terms of his likeness and such since it might mean he'd take a hit in the money he gets working indy shows. I think HTM's bigger issue was with the fact that he didn't actually consider himself to be retired yet, and didn't want to be in the Hall of Fame until he was. That's Bob Backlund's reasoning for not accepting a Hall of Fame spot as well.

WrestleMania Roundtable Part Two: Out With The Old, In With The New
Diamonddust replied to King Kamala's topic in General Wrestling
He should have known L.A. is an incredibly tough market, regardless the population. -
All this segment needed was to reveal that the Undertaker was the driver of the cop car.
-
This is all just laughable and not in a good way.
-
Lame... HHH could learn a lot from Austin and the late Brian Pillman when it comes to home invasion.
-
No one can defeat Miles Jackson? Hmmm... I smell a Cena/Miles Jackson PPV main event!
-
I can think of a ton of mid-level guys to induct before KoKo, and hell, I understand you can't keep stacking the Hall of Fame class. I mean guys like: -Barry Windham -Tully Blanchard -Arn Anderson -The Big Bossman -Rick Rude -Kamala -Earthquake -The Freebirds!? -The Road Warriors!? The list goes on and on and on before you even get to Koko.
-
So KoKo is being inducted by the Honkytonk Man... As mentioned in the Raw thread, I find it very funny they can get him to agree to do this, but they can't get him to agree to be inducted himself.
