Armchair Bookers: What if Ric Flair Never Came...

Great timing for this thread (Possibly intentional) as http://www.f4wonline has put up the issue highlighting Flair's departure. Some of the gems from it include: Some other gems:

Armchair Bookers: What if Ric Flair Never Came...

Good question... Flair leaving in '91 forced WCW to at least push some new people (Namely the Dangerous Alliance). It let Rick Rude have the biggest push of his career, and it started to show everyone the talent Steve Austin had. If Flair stayed, they were in a position of not having a lot of faces to work with him. Sting was damaged goods at the moment and Luger was considered a choker. They probably would have done the Flair/Windham feud, but in the long term, they would have had a problem.

    All-Time Wrestling Roster Draft

Steal indeed. For some reason, I thought he had been selected.

    All-Time Wrestling Roster Draft

LOL... I thought about passing myself since I knew I wasn't going to take another wrestler, and if I did, it'd just be a jobber that wouldn't get used.

    All-Time Wrestling Roster Draft

With my last pick of the draft, I was originally going to select a jobber with Alabama ties just for the heck of it, but I decided I could still snatch up a good play-by-play guy and ring announcer in one swoop. He might not be the most well known in the business, but he was one of the main voices of World Class back in the day. He'll work side by side with Bill Watts in the announce booth, and he'll take over once Watts goes to the ring to take care of that young upstart Landell. Ladies and Gentlemen, I'm proud to select... MARC LOWRANCE And I am out...

    2008 Summer Olympics

As much as it sucks that the Americans lost the gold to Japan in softball, someone made very good sense when they said it was probably the best thing that could happen for the sport in terms of returning to the Olympics in 2016.
  7. I was at both of those PPVs and was thinking of posting the exact same matches. The reaction for RVD at Invasion was the first and only time during the entire Alliance storyline where I felt like WCW/ECW had brought in a legitimate star. Hard to explain, but if you were there you know exactly what I'm talking about. Hardys/E&C was a great match. I got to watch that from a friend of a friend's lower-level suite before getting tossed when security looked in our direction because some chick in the section in front of us took her shirt off and we had 30 people in the suite. Back to the nosebleeds for the main event. Doh. The only title change I've witnessed was Chyna beating Jeff Jarrett in a "housekeeping match" or something equally as dumb. I'm hoping for something a little bigger when I go to Unforgiven. I've said it here before, but I'll say it again. I was at the Smackdown in Birmingham the night after ECW got put into the Invasion angle. RVD worked a dark match, and I swear he easily got one of the best reactions of the night. The crowd went nuts for him, and Birmingham was a town without ECW TV for quite some time.

    NWA Weekly Programming Thread

The new NWA show has, as best as I can recall, the first appearance of The Warlord.

    All-Time Wrestling Roster Draft

Honestly, a similar mod is being done that I can't wait for. The War of the Immortals mod, which will have people from different time periods up against each other in a variety of promotions.

    All-Time Wrestling Roster Draft

Akbar has been selected. OOG took him a few rounds ago, but for some reason he's not listed on the main page.
  12. Good question... The matches that come to mind off the top of my head are: -The 6 Man Hell in the Cell match at Armageddon 2000 -The Rock vs. Mankind - Ladder match for the WWE Title at the Raw in Birmingham, Alabama the night after St. Valentine's Day Massacre. Of the three ECW Shows I saw in Birmingham (Two house shows and Guilty as Charged '00), they were some fun brawls that took place that were exciting to see live, especially at the house shows.

    Monday Night Wars

Then it's coming up. Vince takes his first stunner on the MSG Raw, which will be shown in September. Actually, that night was pretty historic: -Vince takes his first stunner -Cactus Jack "debuts" in the WWE -Goldberg debuts on Nitro

    SummerSlam 1999

Wrestlemania XV will always hold a special place in my heart as in one match I got to watch fellow Alabamian "Butterbean" beat the holy hell out of Bart Gunn AND see Gorilla Monsoon get a great ovation from the crowd in his last appearance.

    Vince McMahon's Favorite Wrestlers

Even though Flair got the big send off and all, and Vince helped him out financially, I don't think Vince was the biggest Flair fan in the word simply because he didn't "create" Flair.

    SABOTAGED!!!

It can also be said that the Hollywood Blondes pretty much got sabotaged once they really got over.

    All-Time Wrestling Roster Draft

With the next selection in the draft, I'm going to pick another manager/valet. She'll be representing The Valiants and Austin Idol in their war against Ventura and the Fargos, and I see her being a very key piece to the puzzle. She was most noted for managing her husband in the 1980's, and she'll fit in quite nicely with my roster. Ladies and Gentlemen, I'm proud to select... PRECIOUS

Let's Talk About: The Stars and Stripes Challenge 1993

As a kid, I thought this was going to be shown on television or something. I also remember being quite confused when Lex Luger showed up as if we were supposed to forget he was just "The Narcissist".
