WWE 24/7 Discussion Thread - February 2008
Diamonddust replied to DrVenkman PhD's topic in WWE Multimedia
I forget... did that happen before or after Lawler appearing at the ECW Arena? -
The Rock and Roll Express one is hilarious. Ricky Morton must have set a record for the most swearing in a shoot.
-
Did anyone get the Cornette/Percy Pringle shoots and the first Cornette/Watts shoot before it went down?
-
Solie isn't a guarantee for this year. A while back, a story came out saying that people (Dusty especially) are pushing hard for Solie to be inducted, but McMahon is reluctant due to things Solie said about him in the past. As much as he should get in, if they do put in a CWF guy... I wouldn't be shocked if they went with Eddie Graham. It is shocking that The Fink, the ULTIMATE company man, isn't in yet.

Count me in the minority that doesn't want to see Hardy cash in the MITB shot at the end of Wrestlemania. -
Mick Foley as an authority figure terrorizing Edge and Christian will always be a favorite of mine.
-
Yeah, J.R. made a comment in a recent blog about how Howard should be in the Hall of Fame much sooner than later. It would be nice if he goes in this year.

I follow sports religiously, especially college football. If I were to ever meet Jim Ross, I'd probably talk to him about college football just as much as I would wrestling. -

Hogan knows that he can play the general media like a fiddle for things like this. He can run his mouth about a bunch of stuff that has no shot of happening, the media will run the story because they still consider him relevant in wrestling, and then it looks as if people are ducking him. He thinks he can go in there and be responsible for the Citrus Bowl having a monster gate (Which it will regardless if he's on the card or not), and then he'll claim it's because of him. Thankfully, he was kept off of the show in Detroit last year because everyone got to see Ford Field jammed full of fans with no sign of Hogan drawing them to the show. -
I'd bet good money the Road Warriors or even the Freebirds go in before Demolition.
-
Of the trifecta of suck, I can live with Mark Henry in Money in the Bank a bit easier than I can with BDV or Khali.
-
I'm guessing Mae Young will be the next announcement. I still see the class going like this: Ric Flair Mae Young Rocky Johnson and Peter Maivia (Depending on The Rock's schedule) A great tag-team (Road Warriors or Freebirds) Ted DiBiase or Ricky Steamboat (I still think Flair and Steamboat should go in together) A Championship Wrestling from Florida Guy - Barry Windham, Eddie Graham, or Gordon Solie 1-2 more "loyal company" guys
-
Now that it looks like MVP is going to be part of the Mayweather angle, I'm guessing: Hardy, Jericho, Kennedy, Shelton, Elijah, Kane, Umaga, and the last spot depending on the Chavo/Punk situation. In the back of my mind, I know Big Daddy V and The Great Khali aren't on the card yet, and I have a feeling they will be in some form. I'd like to see Kofi in it, but it might be too soon for that.

It's going to have 8 spots.

I've wondered the same thing because if you watch that match... Sid and Spivey are over big time with the crowd in St. Louis (I used to have Starrcade '90 on tape, and would watch it regularly). If I recall, it was promoted as just a one night only reunion, and really, the match was nothing more than a very short squash of The Big Cat and The Motor City Madman. I was a mark for both of them so I was hoping the Skyscrapers would stay together as a team. Sid was kind of in limbo at that point after the mini-feud with Sting and the other Horsemen dealing with Doom. WCW had some nice things set up with that PPV. They had the Horsemen/Doom feud that never got a proper blow-off, although Ross suggested a cage match in the commentary. They also had a very hot return of the Skyscrapers that could have easily turned into a feud with the Steiners as well. Unfortunately, the booking was just awful at this point, and in 1991 it hit rock bottom.

And what better time to do it than after JBL and Finlay beat the holy hell out of each other at Wrestlemania. I can easily see Hornswaggle nailing Finlay with the shillelagh for the finish.
-
Juding by what we've got so far: Randy Orton vs. John Cena Edge vs. Rey Mysterio Raw Elimination Chamber: HHH, Jeff Hardy, JBL, Chris Jericho, Shawn Michaels, and Umaga Smackdown Elimination Chamber: Finlay, Undertaker, Big Daddy V, The Great Khali, MVP, and Batista Ric Flair vs. Ken Kennedy Can they add anything else to this? I'm guessing Chavo/Punk and maybe a women's match, but will there be room for anything else?

Back in the day, a job on TV or PPV could be very damaging due to the fact of non-guaranteed contracts. If you jobbed at a house show, the understanding was - big deal... only the local market saw it. If you jobbed on TV, you ran the risk of losing drawing power (and the payoffs as a result) throughout the country (This is basically the justification of why HTM didn't want to lose the IC title to Savage on NBC).
-
I always get a kick out of Jesse ripping Hogan because his actual hatred for the man is so apparent in the commentary.
-
HTM has turned it down in the past because he's afraid of what he'll have to give up in terms of rights to his character. He owns everything related to "The Honky Tonk Man", and he's very particular about signing away any potential money to be made off of it on the indy circuit.

My mistake... I forgot it was 8 spots. -
Turn Cena heel and you lose just about all of your women fans and the majority of your children fans. They've built Cena up as a hero for little kids to look up to, it wouldn't be wise to turn him. There was a guy named Hulk Hogan that was a hero for little kids too.......How did that heel turn work out? Worked out fine... many years after his peak of being a hero.

So after tonight, Wrestlemania is looking like: -Triple H vs. Randy Orton vs. John Cena -Edge vs. Undertaker -Ric Flair vs. Shawn Michaels -Money in the Bank: Jeff Hardy vs. Kennedy vs. ??? vs. ??? vs. ??? vs. ??? vs. ??? vs. ??? (Who do you think gets the remaining spots? You've got the likes of Batista, Jericho, Umaga, MVP, Mark Henry, Kane, Khali, and some ECW guys to choose from) -Big Show vs. Mayweather in some form -JBL/Mr. McMahon? vs. Finlay/Hornswaggle? (Could just be a straight fight between JBL and Finlay with McMahon and Hornswaggle at ringside) Other possibilities: -Beth Phoenix vs. Maria - Candice Michelle with a role as well -MVP vs. Jeff Hardy (If Hardy does come back, if not - MVP goes into Money in the Bank) -A tag-team title match? Cody and Holly vs. Santino and Carlito or what about champions vs. champions and throw Miz/Morrison in there. -
Beth asking Maria if she was crazy for kicking out was a very nice touch.
-
Here we go... Santino should be priceless with this one...
