What makes for a good wrestling card?
Diamonddust replied to majormayhem1's topic in General Wrestling
-Balance of talent meaning the card isn't too top heavy or lacking star appeal -A mixture of styles that can entertain a wide variety of people, or a focus on a particular style based on the area -Knowing what the crowd wants to see and going with that. I remember Jim Cornette saying Dennis Condrey used to go to a show and be like, "Well guys... they want to laugh tonight" so they'd put comedy spots in the match. -

Same here. I want to see it for the historical value. Also, if I remember right, the ECW on TNN debut is nothing but a replay of Jerry Lynn vs. RVD from a past PPV. -

Is it a bad thing to wish Lashley has a match with Kennedy when he returns? -
Cornette rarely cut a bad promo.

Ernie Ladd gets props from me for this promo alone:

A nice reason to like Triple H for a while! -
Watch the Horseman DVD, you'll see some repeating Still, he'd usually give a very good promo.

I was one of the five people who regularly watched WCW at that point and I have no recollection of a Best of Five series between those two whatsoever. I'd bet it never happened and you're just getting mixed up. Besides, Juvy got released in October 2000 after running through a hotel lobby naked high on something (PCP IIRC) and shouting during WCW's sold out Australian tour. I'm sure somebody here knows more specifics about the incident. It was a pretty amusing story. In retrospect, it would have been a lot funnier if he was yelling, "I'm a Jedi! I'm a Jedi!"

I remember Ric Flair saying Steamboat was such a good babyface because he was just like that in real life... a clean cut family man.

Zeus... enough said. I recall a promo, I think it was on the Summerslam '89 PPV, where he referred to Brutus Beefcake as "Beefcake Barber".
-
Oh come on... we're forgetting the most obvious one: The Ultimate Warrior The absolute perfect example of a promo that made no sense whatsoever, although they were entertaining in a sense.
-
Not sure... he might have had one with Mid-Atlantic as he did with Georgia Championship Wrestling.

Armageddon 2004 is not a good show, but (according to my memory) Rey/RVD vs. Dupree/Kenzo was a good tag team match (seriously) and the 4 way main event was good too (of course people were mad 3 years ago that JBL was still champ). I think Funaki also wins the CW title on that show. Shorties spoilers: Watching the preview show, it appears that some of the 25 Shorties will include the always fun Patterson vs. Slaughter boot camp match, Rock vs Hogan, Hogan vs Bockwinkle (they actually showed a program graphic for this one, the rest I'm going off of 1 second clips), Savage vs. Steamboat, Steamboat vs. Flair (in the 1 second it was on screen, looked like the Wrestlewar match... makes sense as I believe that is HHH's favourite match). If that's the case, we're definitely in for a treat in terms of the "Gifts" in the shorties section. -

He'll appear as a jobber for a little while before he is taken off television and then repackaged as Big Bubba Rogers. Jim Cornette said that after he took a slingshot suplex from Tully Blanchard, Dusty decided to do something with him. -
Not sure if it's an inside joke, but J.R. has a knack for telling the audience a match sucks ass without saying those exact words.

Well to be fair, Brian screwed it up himself. Especially in his last wwe Run and getting kicked out of memphis for a year. I just remember Honky saying in a shoot interview that Lawler was never there for Brian when he was a kid and that he deserted Brian and his mom. Also that Lawler was especially hard on Brian in the locker room and stuff. Not trying to defend Lawler for running out on his family or anything, but he pretty much had to be hard on Brian in the locker-room, especially in Memphis, otherwise people would have thought Brian was getting things handed to him.

I wonder if this means they're holding the next episode of the Legends Roundtable until January or they just forgot to put it in the schedule. I'm highly looking forward to it since it's going to cover the old territory system. -
If Sting was available, I'd offer him any bit to do that. Maybe Flair can turn on him once more I would be happy with that one as well.

So that's the new finisher...

Just when I thought they couldn't top Cookie Monster... Santino comes to brighten up the day!

Punk vs. Finlay would be fun, especially if they incorporated the straight edge bit by having Punk disagree with a Guinness downing Finlay. Actually, if the WWE really wanted, they could turn Punk heel one day and use the straight edge bit as a catalyst. It would get some definite heat. As for Flair's retirement match, I'm in the camp that wants a nostalgia factor to it. Possibly against another Hall of Fame inductee (Steamboat, I'm looking in your direction). I know it probably won't happen, but I'd like to see Flair go out against an opponent he has a lot of history with, and Ricky Steamboat would be at the top of the list. I, however, kind of hope they don't put Dusty in the spot, though.

He was still the voice of Florida at that time.

It was a studio crowd inside Titan Towers! You'd think they would toe the company line but it's pretty obvious to me that Vince was putting minimal effort into the show at that point. Were they actually taping that in Titan Towers or in Baltimore like they did Primetime? -

He happened to be a huge fan. Hell, we're about to come up on a PPV where you had Kevin Greene in a main event and Steve McMichael taking on Reggie White. -
