We'll see if Freddy Ad-who? can change things. I doubt it though. Baseball has the most glacial pace of any major sport. But it's popular here because it's a piece of Americana, and because you can go take a piss and/or get a beer without missing a thing. The thing with soccer is that even if the pace is "slow", it's always moving, so if you do get into it you don't want to go anywhere for fear of missing something. But that may be because we're not knowledgable enough to know when to get beers during games, I dunno.

I think pro soccer isn't as popular in North America mostly because the public has been trained to expect not just a lot of offence, but scoring as well. So if you don't know much about the sport, it comes off as rather boring on television. And if it's boring on TV, then you're probably unwilling to go see it live.

ASTONISHING X-MEN #7... although I may switch to tpb for this. NIGHTCRAWLER #4

Are you telling me Howard Stern ALWAYS has strippers and porn stars on his show? I'm SHOCKED... Pretty much my take on things. Clive > Drew, plus the UK version could do things that ABC wouldn't, like stick Phil LaMarr in as a guest and not have Wayne Brady on every single show. Don't get me wrong, I think Wayne is very talented, but we didn't need to hear the guy sing all the time. Female comedians... well I like Kathleen Madigan and Wendy Liebman (no, seriously), and Kathy Greenwald is a talented improv actor. That's about it, I think.

Don't judge the show based on this episode. It's usually an entertaining little series, but last night was reality TV at it's worse. Agreed. But if it comes off that Kelly and JenBot are both undeserving of winning, then you get the idea of how everyone who has been watching feel. John did a better job of standing up for her I thought. Anyways, it just goes to show you that when you're on a show where EVERYTHING YOU SAY IS RECORDED, all your BS will come back to get you. And if Trump was undecided before FINALLY firing her, I'd guess that her constant "MrTrumpMrTrumpMrTrump"-ing probably drove the final nail in her coffin. Anyways, next year - book smarts vs street smarts to start, which would be great except for Trump's hard-on for edjumacated folk...

Jennifer got massacred by just about everyone. Yet, why do I still get the feeling Trump's gonna hire her?

They really should've had Psylocke talk people to death like Claremont had her do in the comics. Jubilee is about where she should be in terms of power, as well as Gambit, who is probably the second most overrated X-Man anyways. Beast probably got shortchanged, but being super-smart doesn't exactly translate well in an action game like this...

US or UK version?

I'm pretty certain that there's a rider in Thea Andrews' contract that lets here talk about hockey...

I can't really disagree with that, although I feel that Seinfeld has really never been duplicated (note: I've never seen CYE, so I can't compare the two). Friends is a bit simpler, they gravitate more towards the formula sitcom route, and as such has been copied (mostly unsuccessfully) much more than Seinfeld. I think it's just the VH1 people that find him funny. Then again I've heard they brought in Bradford How as a VJ and made him act normal, so I suppose they aren't exactly the best people to determine if one is funny or not. It's all relative. I do think that Mordal's storytelling style is great, but it's made better seeing as the other LCS1 comics sucked.

What movies will you be going to see in 2005?

Frank Costanza wanders around New York... -
He is, and I think he's actually more sarcastic than funny. <raises hand> The early seasons were pretty consistently funny, the last few not so much. Neilsens would seem to indicate that people think Leno is funny. I've no idea why...

What the hell consitiutes a "cameo"

Kathleen Robertson looked pretty good in it. Mind you, that doesn't get me my money back, but it was another good thing... -

I was quite disappointed that Keanu didn't say "Whoa" in the trailer, actually. Regardless, I never thought that Hellblazer would translate well to the big screen. Forgot about Sin City. Thought that was coming out in 06 for some reason... -
Kendra is a snake, whereas JTD seems to be pretty open about being an ass. So, odd as it may sound, I have more respect for JTD (over Kendra) for "being real".

I see your point. Although personally, I watch quite a bit of reality tv (actually, just Amazing Race and Apprentice at this point) and I've never really had much of a problem treating the cast members as just characters. So I guess I'm still of the opinion that if you're living vicariously through people on reality tv, you're probably watching too much tv...

Will See: Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy (which will probably be the best Sci-Fi movie out in May) Star Wars: The Shit Hits the Fan Batman Begins Be Cool Might See: Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Fantastic Four King Kong -
Couldn't you say that about ALL television programs?
-
Get rid of the heart-wrenching shit, and Extreme Makeover: Home Edition becomes pretty good. Because, you know, tearing down a house has gotta be fun. Food Network is doing something like that as well, where the winner gets their own show. That could probably go either way, actually...

It was a nice touch by Soderbergh in casting that (Ray Nicolet), and actually I've always found it odd that Leonard created kind of a mini-Elmoreverse by linking Rum Punch with Out of Sight (and by extension the too-short-lived Karen Sisco show) but hey, they're his books. And I wouldn't be surprised if Be Cool has some cameos as well. Speaking of which, Get Shorty had Bette Midler, Penny Marshall and Harvey Keitel in cameos. -
Normal ratio for hit-to-crap for TV shows is around 1:10 or so. Reality shows seem to hit at around 1:15, so I think you could make a case for it. As for gay marriages, if it's a civil union, I really don't have much problem with it. Frankly, committing to one person for the rest of your life is a huge committment, so if you're willing to do it, all power to you.

I agree AoA was pretty interesting. Probably the best crossover "event" of the Harras era, as the X-team were very cohesive and firing on all cylinders at the time. Also, reading Jim Trabold's column on IP, there were so many little things that they threw in there to make it fun for the reader that I missed the first time around. Plus, pretty, shiny, precious chromium covers. We loves the precious chromium covers...

I think you need to respect the mullet. Speaking of hockey commentators though, I nominate Don Cherry.

Continuing the website motif, I think this is a bit better than seeing "model" shots of Assclown/Douche/Spazpants...
