Yeah, but don't forget that Jenna was hated, but she won (handilly) because she played the game more than Matt.

    Batman: War Games

Well, this should be interesting. I mean, Batman's always been a "submit or surrender" kinda guy, but isn't it kinda cruel to put Robin inside the caged double ring?

    Clarett's Appeal Denied

Williams would probably be ineligible for a year, and his endorsement deals would then either be put on hold or put in trust (if they can do that). Or, Williams could go to the CFL for a year. As for Clarett, well, you're not gonna get drafted, you can't go back to college football, and you've probably screwed yourself out of a free education, so learn these words: "Do you want fries with that?"

Did you not listen to the "movie night" songs? Fantasia tried a good slow song and did the best performance of the night. On Country night she did the Willie Nelson "You are always on my mind" and did a good job (not her best, but still good) with that, so she can do more then be a "black person who sings loudly". Fantashia can mix it up, definitely, so I don't see anything stereotypical there. Frankly, the only stereotypical thing I see in her is the "strong black woman" archetype, which didn't really serve her well when talking to Simon and has been toned down as of late. If anything, Barbie Girl has been the one filling the "I'm black and I can sing very loudly" stereotype. Except that she's not black. But she sure can sing loud - and do it all with that plastic smile of hers.

Basically Rob has everyone hearing what they want to hear, so they're not voting for him. And as far as Alliances go, Tom has a final 3 alliance, Jenna and Rupert have a final four alliance, so Alica is the odd (but buff) woman out. And since Shii An didn't hear the others singing a different tune about who to vote out, she stuck with Alicia. Well, to be the Man (or Woman, in this case), you've got to beat the Man. Shii An is trying to be THE playa, but she knows (and has for a while) that Boston Rob IS the playa. And to be honest, if she wanted to play up winning immunity, GOOD. Everyone on that island knows that she's a lame duck who's getting Pagonged at some point, so why not celebrate? Shii has become my second favourite this season, behind Boston Rob. She's speaking her mind, telling it like it is, and pissing off EVERYONE in the process. Hmm, kinda like someone was in Marquesas before he got voted off... Oh and that was a serious kickass performance from Shii in the immunity challenge. Didn't think anyone could top T-Bird in that one, but Shii didn't really even move. And the whole "facing away from everyone else" was a great subtle reminder of where she stood in the tribe.

Not true. They never booted Clay, and they should have. Trenyce was final 3 material, but the ungodly push for Clay and Ruben to be the final 2 tore up everything in their path.

Well, it looks like Game 1 goes to Philly. I didn't think that Belfour played all that well and Philly was showing the advantage of having a few days rest. The Leafs are probably lucky that the score wasn't higher but really, a loss is a loss so there isn't much else I can say, except that I'll have to update my sig...

    American Idol 3

Here's the thing - this is a POP competition (hence the Brit name, Pop Idol), and as such, John Stevens probably shouldn't be there. The Rat Pack style simply does not mesh with what American Idol is trying to create. But frankly, this isn't about him. It's about what the show is trying to do. Remember, the judges and producers put him into the final 32, and he got praise - from Simon, of all people - because he WAS different. And it was all well and good that this kid made the Final 12, because he's nice and different, but he won't last long. But now, they're realizing that he might WIN this whole damn thing, and they really have no idea what to do with him. So now that the system isn't working for them they're basically slapping the wrists of the fans who support the show. Personally, I don't think that Stevens should win - again because he is a throwback singer who is clearly out of his element in a pop singing competition. But obviously, there are people that, for whatever reason, like this guy enough to vote for him every week. So, if he wins, congrats, I'm happy for the guy. But if someone else does, I hope that it's because the public WANTED them to win, and not because of some crap that the producers do to influence the vote.

Jacques Martin fired as Senators coach

It's mainly because Joe Dumars isn't the GM of an NHL team. Anyways, the coaching fraternity is a tight one, so unless you've been blacklisted, you'll get another chance. Big Bird's probably the most logical choice, as he helped the Devils get over the hump and win the Cup. Couldn't argue with Quennville, though...

    Memorable sports fights

I think that may have been when he was in the Soo. Everyone fights in junior hockey, you know. The "fight" I was thinking of was basically a non-fight. But, he ALMOST got his ass kicked by Wendel Clark after the game 6 slash. McSorley, I believe, intervened on his behalf.

Ah bitch bitch bitch. Does it hurt you that you can't watch the Leafs on Saturday night? Is there such thing as a non-whiny leaf fan. I think that we've been trained to watch hockey on Saturday night. It's like how NFL games on Saturdays throw people off. Not starting at home sucks for the Leafs, but really, it's better than the alternative - hitting the links because you got eliminated from the playoffs. Hmm, yes you're right. I gotta stop listening to Bob Cole and Harry Neale when they're toasted.

    Memorable sports fights

It was Rick Fox v. Doug Christie. When the fight spilled into the hallway, the entire Kings team joined in, along with Christie's purse-swinging wife. Then Shaq -- who was injured at the time and wearing J. Anthony Brown's pajamas on top of that -- showed up and EVERYONE on the Kings backed up (except Doug Christie's wife; she's 'bout it.) What else did you expect? It's not like Doug wears the pants in that family. Bob Probert vs. Marty McSorley. A fight that lasted an eternity in hockey terms. And I think they did it just for shits and giggles, too. The Great One vs. Esa Tikkanen. I have vague memories of this, but I remember it being pretty funny, because, well, it's Gretzky and Tikkanen. And I don't think any punches were actually thrown, but there was a lot of circling around...

What's actually stupid is the whole "you - the voters - have noone to blame but yourselves for voting for your favourites instead of the best singers" spiel they were feeding us yesterday. Are they kidding? THEY (the producers) are the ones who have the phone lines set up so you can repeatedly vote for a person - it's one of the reasons Clay finished second. THEY are the ones who have Seacrest tell us every week to "vote for our favourites", and then berate us? THEY are the ones who have Seacrest bring a baby on stage because THEIR annointed one isn't getting the votes they want? So I say screw 'em. Some of you may consider the continuing presence of John Stevens to be a joke, but I think the real joke is that they're (once again) trying to tell us who to vote for, and who they want to win. So yeah, I HOPE John goes through again and I WANT Fantashia to shing her last shong, because that's the only way to tell the suits that if you give someone the keys, don't tell them how to drive.

But Fox is bringing back Andy Richter for a new sitcom! What a great move by Fox. But you what would be better: If they fucking left Andy Richter Controls the Universe on in the first place. But it's about quintuplets. Because a sitcom with lots of kids = ratings!! Hey, remember when Paget Brewster was a hot commodity?

    American Idol 3

Yeah, that was pretty funny. I think he thought he was gone for sure. Apparently next week is "Salsa" week, meaning that John will be (again) waaaaaaay out of his element. As will everyone else, because so far as I know, salsa music is not known for it's vocals (note to self: need to take salsa classes with the Fiancee). So I suppose that the theme will actually be LatinPop music. So I expect heavy dosages of Shakira, Enrique, Marc Anthony and maybe even Santana (feat ____).

Now THAT was a swerve. But what it shows me is that America saw right through the baby ploy. The sad part, of course, is that Fantasia didn't go, and will probably be safe for quite a while...

    American Idol 3

One was LaToya, the other was Fantasia. Both have kids, although LaToya's are stepkids. So really, what they're saying is, "it's my "favourite" movie because my kids love them, but really, it's Booty Call, but that won't translate into votes".

I'll give credit where credit is due though - she made me laugh when she said that her favourite movie is Bowfinger. Mind you, she was actually serious, and that should be grounds for dismissal right there...

If I had to choose, Diana would lose. I only saw the recap (Leafs-Sens game 7, plus I was taping 24) and she seemed more... plastic, Barbie-ish than normal... I can't stand either one. And who can blame you? I simply dislike Diana more than Fantashia...

The 2004 Stanley Cup Playoffs thread

East: Tampa vs Montreal - Khabibulin's the better goalie right now, so Tampa in 6 Philadelphia vs Toronto - This will be Jim Ross' type of series - a slobberknocker. How this goes probably depends on the health of Sundin and Belfour. Yeah, it's cliche to say one guy can make a difference, but the Leafs are a better team with their captain in the lineup. I'm going with my heart on this one. Leafs in 7 (because I'm not sure they actually know that they can win in less games) West: Detroit vs Calgary - Detroit is a great team, BUT they won the President's Cup, which for whatever reason is not a good thing in the NHL. Calgary looks to have gotten hot at the right time. No joy in Hockeytown this year. Calgary in 6 San Jose vs Colorado - I don't know much about San Jose, other than that they did really well in the regular season and employ the ugliest man in hockey. So this is a pure guess. San Jose in 6
