The syndie TV series was actually a lot better than the sequels, I thought. I'm not sure which is worse though - The Crow sequels or The Highlander sequels. Both sets were unnecessary and quite bad...

The first two seasons of The New Class were, quite frankly, bad. Season 1 was a bunch of Coys and Vances except for Vicki Needleman in place of Jessie, and she wasn't exactly likeable. Season 2 was better, but the Swiss guy was still in the Zach "wacky scheme and trying to get the girl" mold. Season 3 was actually a pretty decent one because the Bayside/Valley merge gave us some friction. The last couple of seasons were actually pretty good after jettisoning Tommy D and whatshername. The College Years illustrated the problems of having a kids sitcom and trying to get an adult audience to like it. Lots of problems there, starting with accepting Zach, Kelly, Slater and Screech in more serious, more adult-like situations. Actually, I've only accepted Marc Gosselar as a "serious, adult" actor since he started on NYPD Blue and was that gay-for-pay character on Law and Order. -
Unless the President is black and dealing with a crisis in LA (again), I really don't want to see him at 8pm CDT... I suppose this means I can try and get my DSL fixed though...

I kinda hope he does. You need a hot goalie to help you win the Cup these days. Leafs have home ice advantage again. Gotta love that...

"Movie Week" can generally be translated as "Bryan Adams/Dianne Warren songs". I do actually like Adams pre-Everything I Do though, so I wouldn't mind if someone sang "Heaven". For the record, "When You're Gone" with Mel C. is also a guilty pleasure of mine. John Stevens SHOULD be able to find a song to sing here. Not that it matters, as he'll probably stay on. But maybe this week he can, I dunno, make it look like he wants to be there? At this point I'm hoping for George or Latoya to win the whole thing. Yeah, Fantasia's a good singer, but her sass is really starting to annoy me. Still not as much as Diana - who I hope will go away sooner rather than later...

Of the two I WANT Bill to win (still think Troy was the best candidate), but Kwame's a corporate guy through and through, so I'd say he's got a good chance to win. Funny note about Omarosa - I've heard that while she DID work in the White House (during the Clinton Administration), she was also FIRED from four different positions while there.

It wasn't exactly a concern with Peter Engel shows. They've had two Asian females (Jennie Kwan from California Dreams and that one from One World) and I have no idea what Al(?) from City Guys was - he was either Hispanic or Filipino but I could never figure it out. And here's one: Wasn't Becky Belding also Miss Bliss' friend from Season 0? -
Eh, noone's ever accused pro athletes of being super geniuses, although of course there are exceptions.

Now that I think about it One World didn't have a rotating cast, but it only lasted a couple of seasons, and I'd LOVE to hear an onscreen explanation for cast changes there. But yeah, some of those other shows, the casts changed so much my head would spin. Frankly, I'm impressed that Daniella Deutcher and Megan Parlen lasted the entire run of Hang Time, given the amount of turnover there.
-
In a way this helped set the standard for future Peter Engel kids shows, where the cast would change every year (and in some cases it was never explained, or explained very poorly eg Hang Time season 2). Tori, eh, didn't really care either way. Like most people, I consider them as "not real" SBTB eps...

Take away the tacked on fight scene at the end and Hulk is a very strong movie. Keep it in there and it's still better than Daredevil.

I guess there's something wrong with America. But come on, as soon as they grouped him in with Fantasia, you knew he was staying. Yeah, I knew who was gone as soon as they started to do the groupings. But seriously, he didn't even make bottom 3. WTF Basically he's this year's Josh the Marine, getting votes because there's something likeable about him. Josh stayed in because of the war sentiment, and John's in because, well, he's a nice guy who doesn't really fit in with the rest of the group. Now, if the phone lines were set up for who you wanted to vote OUT, he'd probably be gone, but it's set up as a popularity contest, and he stays in. And yeah, I think that there's something wrong when a guy phones it in, wants out, but people keep him in.

Apparently Houston has the largest Vietnamese population in the States - large enough that they put Vietnamese in addition to English and Spanish on electoral ballots. And they've got a growing Chinese population as well. But of course this is ignoring that Toronto has a HUGE Chinese population. Yao and Vince woulda been awesome. Also interesting to note that Vancouver probably has the highest Chinese population per capita in North America. Too bad the Grizzlies moved to Memphis...

It's actually Thai food, not salad. Makes sense, doesn't it?

My TV's sound decided to stop working last night, so it made for some interesting TV watching. Needless to say, American Idol was not particularly interesting to watch with no sound. But Jack Bauer manages to become more bad ass when you're just reading captions. Anyways, my coworker filled me in, and she said it sounded like Ol' Red has thrown in the towel (not literally). Can anyone confirm?

Bumping this. This week's theme is apparently the King of Queens, Sir Elton John. So I'd expect that Jon and John should have better performances. Certainly ol' redhead can't be any worse than last week. I'm picking Camille to go again, but I should point out that I kept picking the FudgePackers to lose in The Amazing Race 4, and they won the whole damn thing, so I MAY end up wrong with my prediction...

OK, it wasn't a side scroller, but shouldn't Gauntlet fall under this as well? That was a MONSTER 4-player quarter muncher if I ever saw one...

Star Wars novels made into movies...
starvenger replied to Masked Man of Mystery's topic in Literature
He did take stuff from Zahn (Coruscant) and Anderson (the whole Sith mythology), though, so he's not entirely ignoring the EU. I'm also sure you could ask the question to Star Wars Insider, but I'm pretty sure that they'll tell you that it's been retconned something like this: Boba inherited some of Jango's memories, so when he's recalling getting Slave I custom made, it's actually a part of his implanted memories and not from his real life ones. -
I remember when the Jays won, where it was fun and crazy but there wasn't a whole lot of phyical damage. The Leafs winning could be different, but you'd kinda hope there wouldn't be - really, that's all you can hope for with ANY victory celebration for ANY team. Still, that's getting way, way ahead of ourselves. The Battle of Ontario hasn't even started yet, and we could conceivably see the biggest riot in Ottawa since... um... well, maybe ever. I'm not up on my Ottawa riots history. Oh, and if any of you Ottawa fans are lucky enough to get tix to a game at the ACC, I heartily recommend getting some Thai food at Salad King near the Eaton Centre (and Ryerson). Just don't order spiciness above 5 or you'll regret it.

Eh, Dave Hodge is getting senile anyway. I have Detroit (over Dallas) and Ottawa (over Tampa Bay) reaching the finals. As much as I'd like the Leafs to win, I have a hard time picturing ANY team from the East winning the Cup this year. A lot of the series are potential 7-gamers, and it just seems to me that whoever comes out of the West won't have as much of a grind to get to the finals. However, my BIAS has me pick the Leafs to come out of the East, with Detroit winning the Cup and overcoming the President's Cup hex... but I wouldn't complain if I was wrong and the Leafs won it all...

I just got back from a Walking Tall free preview, and here's a quick analysis: The short version: 6/10, about 75 min (yes, 1 hour 15 minutes. I think a Disney movie is longer) The long(er) version (SPOILERS coming up. Don't look if you don't wanna know): Remember how everything seemed to fall in place with The Rundown? Well, it doesn't seem to do so here. Let's start with the villain(s). Neal McDonough's Jay Hamilton can be described as such - he's rich, therefore he's evil. He of course owns the major industry in the town, has the police in his back pocket and oh by the way, runs a drug ring. Now for the hero. The Rock's Chris Vaughn is an honourably discharged special forces officer who (after finding corruption at the casino, getting beaten up and left for dead, finding out his nephew got drugs from the casino, wrecking the casino and getting acquitted in possibly the most inane movie trial EVER) becomes Sheriff and decides to ruin Rich Bad Guy's life by getting rid of the corruption. This of course, happens in the first 50-55 minutes. The next 5 minutes involve him abusing his power and shagging Ashley Scott (whose role as Danny (hmm) amounts to looking good in a bra, and she does it very well), before the final bit where they blow up stuff and wreck a lot of property. Johnny Knoxville is, well, Johnny Knoxville. I've really no complaints there - you know what you're getting. There's a lot of little things that really don't get followed up in this film, which can probably be attributed to the length. Stuff like a ferry sinking - implying that no help is coming soon, but never said. Or why the Sheriff previous dies, etc. Anyways, it's a fun little movie, but in the end it's not particularly memorable. I'd recommend giving it a pass and waiting for video.

Ummm, Raycroft has been the Bruins clear cut #1 since about December. He only played 10 less games than Theodore, and has played about 80% of the Bruins games in the last half of the year. And he had better #s than Theodore (better GAA and save percentage, at least. Theodore had more shutouts, but playing more games would normally mean more opportunities for a shutout). While I wouldn't be surprised to see Theodore steal a game in this series, to say that he's the reason to pick Montreal doesn't make sense. You know, I knew that, yet I still wrote that down. I might've been thinking of Philly/Jersey at the time, but I can't really say for sure. So let me revisit this. Theodore isn't a proven playoff commodity (because the Habs haven't exactly has a good track record of making the playoffs), but he's proven to be a solid goaltender. Raycroft, you know, he could be this year's Giguere, but I gotta go with the team and the goalie who has some hardware in his house.

Yeah, I was wondering that as well. She's pretty hot. According to IMDB, she hasn't done anything major, besides appearences in SWAT, A.I., and was casted in two tv shows.. That's pretty much it. Ashley Scott was in the second season of "Dark Angel" and played Huntress in "Birds of Prey"

EASTERN CONFERENCE (1) Tampa Bay Lightning vs. (8) New York Islanders Tampa in 5. Conference champs, who'da thunk it? (2) Boston Bruins vs. (7) Montreal Canadiens Habs in 7. When in doubt, go with the team with a clear cut #1 (3) Philadelphia Flyers vs. (6) New Jersey Devils Devils in 6. Going with Brodeur and the defending champs until they prove me wrong. (4) Toronto Maple Leafs vs. (5) Ottawa Senators Not picking due to bias. Rooting for the Leafs, obviously. WESTERN CONFERENCE (1) Detroit Red Wings vs. (8) Nashville Predators Winge in 5. I expect the Preds to take one, but I think that this should be easy for the Wings (2) San Jose Sharks vs. (7) St. Louis Blues Sharks in 5. Sharks are impressive, Blues aren't, except for their playoff streak. (3) Vancouver Canucks vs. (6) Calgary Flames Canucks in 6. Canucks are on a roll going in, so we'll see that momentum continue. (4) Colorado Avalanche vs. (5) Dallas Stars Stars in 7. This is the tough series in the west.
