The thing that's shocking to me is how much of his stuff has been addapted for TV and movies. His crime fiction is perfect for the medium, but still, it's quite a bit. Not all of it good, sadly. I believe that Tishimongo Blues (with Don Cheadle) and Be Cool (with Vinnie Barbarino) are in production right now. My favourite novel is Tishimongo Blues (haven't read Gold Coast yet, but I've got a backlog of books to go through, starting with the nonfiction "Bringing Down The House"). I also really dug "When The Women Come Out To Dance" because the short stories tied into his other novels - it's almost like a book version of the deleted scenes on a DVD. And yes, I'm pissed about "Karen Sisco" getting axed. ABC has a great show, yet they kill it for some "Millionaire" overkill...

Because they were starting at 18 players, I figured a merge would happen at 14 and 10 players. Personally I was thinking that Rob C would go. Physically, Rob's the second weakest and is known to be one of the better players from Survivor. And without any previous winners on the tribe the guy who should have won will follow his castmate out of the game. If it's not Rob then I think that Ethan will go, because Jerri hasn't pissed everyone else off yet. I also predict: - Shii Ann will sit out one of the challenges. - Tom will say something that makes no sense. - Amber will sit out one of the challenges. - Amber won't do anything productive. - "The Stud" will be naked. really "bold" predictions, eh?

Losing Will Ferrell and Ana Gasteyer has really hurt the show. Gasteyer more than Ferrell, I think, she was probably the most versatile female performer they've had in a long while, and that's difficult to replace. Also it means seeing more of Maya Rudolph, which isn't a good thing since she needs to be carried to a half-decent skit.

I'm not sure that adding Stuttering John will make the Tonight Show any better to watch if he's only there to be an announcer...

Looks like Dean Martin guy will be in group 4. Pen Guy is in group 3, as is the Hawaiian freestyle guy. I'll go on record as saying that Dean Martin doesn't make it through. Does he have talent? I think so. Does his music suit American Idol? No. But throw him a one-shot album deal, let him record a bunch of standards, and see how it does. The funny thing about Football Guy's comments - that would probably keep him from getting fired on The Apprentice. I think Trump likes aggressiveness. But trying to match wits with Simon, let's face it, you've got to be a quick thinker, and these guys are singers, not comedians or battle rappers. The only time I've seen people match Simon's retorts was on World Idol, where - shockingly - the other judges proved as capable of spewing venom as the most hated Brit since, well, Anne Robinson. We need more William Hungs on this show - nice guys who can accept the judges' verdicts with grace...
