Record of the Year - Surprisingly, a pretty solid crop of songs. Even Beyonce's song is decent fluff. However, anyone thinking of voting for that song should see subjected to Warren Sapp's "tribute" to Beyonce's booty shaking. Album of the Year - I have none of these albums, hence I have no comment Song Of The Year - Linda Perry from 4 Non-Blondes wrote "Beautiful?". I haven't heard the Luther or Warren Zevon songs. Of the other three I thought that Eminem's was the best in terms of lyrics. Best New Artist - Um, who's Heather Headley? Sean Paul probably won't win here, but he'll probably win the Shaggy Memorial Juno for "American artist who performs at the Canadian Grammys". Best Female Pop Vocal Performance - I'd give this to Sarah McLachlan based on her overall work, but with her new album I was on track 7 before I realized that it was a different song. So out of the other 4 I'd like to see Dido win it. Kelly Clarkson winning it would be pretty funny though, as it would give American Idol some serious legitimacy and likely piss off a lot of people. Best Male Pop Vocal Performance - Ye Gods, 3 industry vets, a guy dead for over 2 years and JT. I gotta admit, I like McDonald's song, but that's because it's ALWAYS ON IN MCI COMMERCIALS. Hopefully they put Justin over and end up pissing off Britney. Best Pop Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal - I want Fountains of Wayne to win, simply because their song is about a MILF. Best Pop Collaboration With Vocals - YOUR frightening thought of the day: La Vie En Rose is a lingerie store in Canada. Now imagine Tony Bennett and kd lang in lingerie. Best Pop Instrumental Performance - The Nutcracker Suite by a swing band? I gotta hear that... Best Pop Instrumental Album - Why won't Kenny G go away? Best Pop Vocal Album - I guess I'd vote for the dead Beatle... Best Dance Recording - Hey, as long as it's not that gawdawful Madonna song... Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album - I think that this is not my type of category Best Female Rock Vocal Performance - "Rock" is being very loosely interpreted, isn't it? I think Michelle Branch would win here, but I must admit that I'm partial to Avril's "Losing Grip". In fact, it's probably my favourite song out of all her singles. Best Male Rock Vocal Performance - No comment, as I've only heard Gravedigger... Best Rock Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal - Seven Nation Army has that great hook, doesn't it? Best Hard Rock Performance - This looks like a category designed for Evanescence to win, thanks to their crossover appeal. Best Metal Performance Best Rock Instrumental Performance Best Alternative Music Album - I'll let the experts debate these ones. Best Rock Song Best Rock Album - I guess these ones would all depend on what the voters ate before they voted. Being that I'm Canadian I guess I'd like to see Nickelback win...

I can't believe they let him write a book (ok, well, he probably didn't write it, but still) before milking things a bit. I mean, who wouldn't buy a book of Barkey quotes?

The One and Only Survivor: Pearl Islands Thread
starvenger replied to fairtoflair7's topic in Television & Film
Right now we have an alliance of 3 (Outkasts + Jon), an alliance of 2 (Drakes) and a loner (Darrah). The way I see it: - Burton and Jon need to dump a Drake here. I'd go with Sandra, because even if they hate Christa, Sandra's a schemer, and that counts for a lot in the Final 2. - Everyone else needs to dump Burton, STAT. They had their chance last TC and didn't do it. If not Burton then Jon. Yes he's a tempting opponent for the Final 2, but you can't trust him to help bring you there. What will probably happen: - Darrah throws her lot in with the Outcasts, and they toss out Christa. Next week, Jon turns on Burton and tosses him out, leaving us with a final four of Darrah, Jon, Lill and Sandra. -
Legace was ready last year. He's the Steve Young of hockey. To my knowledge, I don't think Legace has any concussions yet True, but Young never got any concussions when he was Montana's backup...
-
I'd go with Johnson. Fusgesicles/Nevermores is a pivotal game, but Wright is too much of an unknown to know how he'll play. So even though Johnson and Jurevicius are out of the year, Johnson is a safer bet.

Funny, I heard that that'll be the markup for a "dance" at the Houston "ballets" during the Super Bowl...

I use pepper on some things. Salt I avoid adding any extra because, really, I don't need the extra sodium...

Bale To Be The New Batman; Caine To Be Alfred

Speaking of which, the Comics 101 column on Movie Poop Shoot is in the middle of a 3-part series on Batman (the Comic). A great read. -
Well yes, but Thea Andrews can't be on all the time...

What, you can't read the book?

If I'm Bush I do what benefits me the most within the US. His image is shit outside of the States so you might as well try and do the best you can at home. I'd say that it doesn't matter as he's a one-termer, but then again I'm a Canadian with more of an "outsiders" view of things, and I plan to be back in Canada by end of next year anyways...

This is assuming that you're thinking pop music, and not classical. Because then Pachebel Canon and The Wedding March would be put on there... In no particular order: - "If You're Not The One", Daniel Beddingfield - "All I Want Is You", U2 - "Heaven", Bryan Adams - "Forever Young", Alphaville - "True", Spandau Ballet - "Never Tear Us Apart", INXS - "In Your Eyes", Peter Gabriel - "Amazed", Lonestar - "Never Had A Dream Come True", S Club - "With Or Without You", U2 Honourable mention to "last dance" songs, "Stairway To Heaven" and "November Rain".

I am SHOCKED and HORRIFIED that something like this could happen. You were watching Cold Pizza?

When I emailed Sony they told me to try a diagnostic on the console, which requires reading any disc to see if the system is fine or not. Which would be great, if my problem weren't a fricking disc read error!!! So it looks like I'll have to talk to Mr. PS2 Techie guy, and ship it off to get repaired...

I'm still unsure whether there will be another X-Box, though, since Microsoft seems more focused on pushing .NET right now than game consoles. But the 5-year cycle isn't done yet, so we'll see...

Just finished rereading "Be Cool" by Elmore Leonard, and it's still good reading. And for the record, Elliot Wilheim is described as a 6'4", 260lb half black, half Samoan gay man who likes to raise one eyebrow and is trying to break into acting. So I can see where that casting rumour for this part in the movie came about... Oh, and Raji should be played by Chris Tucker. Why? Read the book and you'll know what I mean...

Formerly Known As The Justice League #6 (Of 6), $2.50 - ye gods, this series is already done? I'm already drooling in anticipation for "I Can't Believe It's Not The Justice League"... Transformers More Than Meets Eye Official Guide #8 (Of 8), $5.25 Exiles #38, $2.99 Supreme Power #5, $2.99 on the flipside... GI Joe Transformers Miller Cvr #5 (Of 6), $2.95 - ye gods (2), this abortion of a series is still going? Blaylock can write a credible Joe, but he can't write Transformers for shit. Again, I recommend getting TF vs GI Joe over this dreck.

Us American scum are watching the heritage games
starvenger replied to The Czech Republic's topic in Sports
Everybody hates him! Its a leage-wide constant. "Fraser sucks" is required chanting at any and all games he refs. He makes horrid calls like its a bodily function, but I think we hate him more because of his hair. I mean, look at it! His hair hasn't moved in 20 years! There's a reason he doesn't wear a helmet. See my sig for Fraser's comment on his hair. And Fraser's apparently reffed 1500+ regular season games, so I think we can find more than a few examples of his shittiness. And yeah, I think he goes out of his way to favour one team over the other in any given game... -
For some reason, I keep thinking "Can you understand the words that are coming out of my mouth?"

Bale To Be The New Batman; Caine To Be Alfred
starvenger replied to MrRant's topic in Television & Film
No, Bale and Caine would definitely be the type of actor Nolan would pick. And you're right, Eastwood is (thankfully) not Paul Walker or Freddie Prinze, but I look and I see stuff like Halle Berry as Catwoman and I can't help but be afraid for Nolan's Batman. And for the record, I really am hoping that I'm wrong and it's a great movie, but I just have a bad feeling about it. -
Sgt Slaughter dropping weight, 30 pounds from goal
starvenger replied to dubq's topic in The WWE Folder
Remember what Slaughter did to Falcon in G.I. Joe movie? Well that's what he should do to Rikishi. But who would play the part of his other 3 trainees? Well, Lance Storm could be Mercer, the Warlord could be Taurus, and the Rock could be Red Dog... What, you weren't serious? -
Columnist says Fab Five are "useless."
starvenger replied to Yuna_Firerose's topic in Television & Film
That's the 1st thing that popped in my head when I saw "Fab 5" It was actually the second thing that came to me, but most of you probably wouldn't know that Duran Duran were known as the "Fab Five", so I went with something more contemporary... -
Bale To Be The New Batman; Caine To Be Alfred
starvenger replied to MrRant's topic in Television & Film
DC has given Nolan's film its blessings. Batman screenwriter David Goyer mentioned him and Nolan have talked with DC about what they're doing (and they didn't have to), and has also mentioned they kept strings tight on faithfulness to the character. Believe it or not I have faith in Nolan, but casting a "name" (Eastwood) in what is essentially a minor part doesn't sound like something he'd do. So my fears are of tampering from higher up, where I have zero faith that they will let a good movie get created. -
Riiiiiiight. No, Britney doesn't try to make it a big publicity thing. She just does what her managers and publicists say and THEY make a big deal about it. Which is pretty much the same thing, but I suppose that technically, she's right...
