If you haven't, it's ESPN2's new morning show. And it's very, very bad. Not as bad as Gallagher on TSN, but pretty darn close. Apparently Kit is wild and wacky, but I haven't seen any of that. Haven't seen much of Thea Andrews (the TV reporter from Playmakers) either, and that would be my main motivation for watching. Watch it now before they give this thing a mercy killing!!

ultra-fascinating behind scenes info on...

I've only reached chapter 28, and I'm into the Bob Harras era of the Spider-Books. It's insane that this saga spans 3 EICs, 3 group editors, and shitloads of writers and artists. btw, Writer X has to be Hackie... er, Mackie. -
Some rules of the real world don't apply to media, but others do. It would have been perfectly fine for Easterbrook to state that "I cannot believe that Michael Eisner would allow such a gratuitously violent movie to be released. This is an obvious cash grab by Eisner and Weinstein who are trying to milk every red cent from a Tarantino move". This attacks Eisner, but not in an offensive way. But in trying to come up with an analogy, he implied that it was "very Jewish" of them to be grabbing for that money, which is in bad taste, but is also in an online journal attached to The New Republic, which so far as I know has only one connection to the Disney Empire - Easterbrook's TMQ column on ESPN.com. OK, there's your grounds to be fired - but the official reason is because he made an anti-Semetic remark. Never mind that he has never made one before, or than in his ESPN column he refuses to use Washington's team nickname because it is offensive to Native Americans, or that several of his colleagues are Jewish etc. He makes one statement - which by his admission later was very poorly worded - and BAM, he's gone, as if he never existed. Remember, ESPN took about THREE DAYS to can Rush Limbaugh for something that he had PLANNED to say on air, and quite frankly was something you were expecting to say at some point. Since Easterbrook's statement was of a similar slanderous nature (although not premeditated and definitely out of character), shouldn't he get the same leeway, at least?

I'd think that there would still be the usual limitations with that. Cable Modem speed is limited by how many people in an area also have a cable modem, and DSL is limited by how far you are from a central office. I recently switched to DSL from Cable and while the speeds are noticably slower (when you're downloading multiple files) I haven't had the problems with connections mysteriously dropping like I did with RoadRunner. Still, the main reason I switched was because DSL is cheaper in my area and I'm trying to save money any way I can.

Not really. But I needed something to watch since they replaced Best of Power Rangers with Daigunder. And I still need something to watch...

OK, quickie reviews (may contain spoilers!!): Avengers/JLA #2 (9/10) Contest of Champions 3 (4?) begins in earnest, as both the Avengers and JLA begin the quest for the items. Cap and Batman start to fight, and I'm sad to say that Spoiler (Highlight to Read): it ends up a n/c, but it makes sense when you think about it. A lot of reservists get "called up", and we get some interesting matchups like Hercules vs Wonder Woman (logically, in Asgard) and Green Lantern (Ion) vs Photon (guess who wins?). I've also figured out why I hate Plastic Man. He's like Morph, and he's part of DC's most powerful group of heroes. And I now also understand the joke over in eXiles, as Morph was part of the Avengers in his reality. Still, a very good issue, with nonstop action and even a buildup to the next issue, where it seems ALL JLA and Avengers members will show up. Too bad Busiek couldn't find a way to throw in the other Titans and New Warriors in as well. You know Perez would draw it in. Uncanny X-Men #432 (6.5/10) Great art from Tan, but the lead story isn't really holding my interest. OK, so we confirm once and for all that Mystique is Nightcrawler's mom, and that Nightcrawler is Spoiler (Highlight to Read): related to Damien Hellstrom? The fuck? Oh, it's some OTHER Satan, not Mephisto or one of the other 3000 lords of evil running around the Marvel U . Austen's lost me with this part. The subplot with Juggy, Northstar and Sammy (Squid Boy) is better, IMO, and saves this one from a thumbs down. Nitpick: since when does a "restraining order" look like a big panic button?

Funny, that's what Tony Kornheiser said in an internet chat, dismissing him as "just another guy on the internet". Fact is that this guy has written articles for the Washington Monthly, the Atlantic Monthly and Time. He's published books on religion, politics and football, and is well respected by his peers. Which of course makes him the exact type of person Kornheiser wouldn't know anything about. Anyways, when I read the blog article I was rather surprised by the content, and yes it is offensive to Jews, but looking deeper it really is a condemnation of Eisner and Winstein for the gratutious violence within Kill Bill vol 1. Of course, Eisner is the CEO of Disney, which owns ESPN and ESPN.com's Page 2. Even though the ESPN.com suits deny any connection, something sure seems rather dodgy there, especially since all traces of TMQ were gone faster than you can say "Rush Limbaugh". TMQ was a fine column, complete with haiku, token babes in skimpy outfits, football analyses and strange tangents, and the main reason why I visited Page 2. And since the Sports Guy is half-assing it (and they're not doing a NFL stadium review ala the MLB ballparks) I guess I have no more reason to visit. My favourite team names, btw, was the Arizona (Caution: May contain football-like substance) Cardinals and the aforementioned Indigenous Persons...

Ooh...any cool guests there? David Prowse (Darth Vader), John Rhys-Davies (Gimli, Arturo from Sliders, Thor from Hulk Animated), Anthony Daniels (C3PO), Adam Hughes and Tim Bradstreet, to name a few...

Merchandise on the way to getting in line.....

They're called impulse items for a reason. Don't buy it unless you really need it. Fry's is an electronics store that also runs Outpost.com (or is it the other way around?), but it seems more like an Ikea than a Best Buy. If you're looking for MMA DVDs, this place is for you. -
Taco Cabana is great, but the queso kills my system every time...

Oh ye of little faith. I've no doubt that Lucas can do worse...

- The Joe Schmo Show is great. Too bad you can't repeat it. - Playmakers is one of those shows where it's not great, but you get hooked on it anyways. It does for me what I suppose The O.C. does for others. - Karen Sisco. Probably the most solid new show out there. Carla Gugino is does more for me than Lopez. They need to have more gray characters in the classic Elmore Leonard mold, though.

The Thrawn Trilogy would fit in well, although if the timeline between RotJ & 7 were to be the same as 3 & ANH, then you're looking at the New Jedi Order. But I'm inclined not to believe the rumour. Lucas has shown that as far as Star Wars goes, he will keep his hand in the pot. Let's see how Indy 4 works out first...

Avengers JLA #2 (Of 4), $5.95 Uncanny X-Men #432, $2.25 I'm glad it's a slow week, as I'm gonna blow some cash at the Dallas Comic/Sci-Fi con this weekend...

I have to avoid Papa John's - something about their cheese gives me the runs. Love their pizza though...

MLB - 1992-1993, when the Jays won the World Series. One year later there was a strike and Toronto ceased to care about baseball. NHL - oh, wait, the Leafs last won 6 years before I was born... Olympics - double gold in hockey at the 2002 Winter Games. A very big deal in Canada, as you might imagine. NBA - No major triumphs, but as a sporting event, Vince Carter in the slam dunk contest. They shoulda put the event back into the closet after that. And while it's not direct, I cheered each and every time Buffalo lost the Super Bowl, and when the Sabres lost to the Stars (and a bad call).

The only thing I don't like about the Indy Trilogy is "Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark". Maybe I'm being a bit nitpicky (ya think?) but I kinda liked the title the way it was. Definitely less of a mouthful to say...

Well you can actually go out and watch Orcas around here so that is why I assumed they put it in there. Sort of. The company is called Orca Bay Entertainment because presumably you can see orcas outside of Vancouver. But the orcas on the uni, as Brush With Greatness mentioned, is meant to reflect the company that owns it. It would be like the Red Wings replacing the wheel with a pizza... Anyways, are the Islanders using their orange practice jerseys as 3rd jerseys again?

Probably been asked before, but I do get tired of looking for the same DVD on several different sites to find the best price. I'm looking for a reference site similar to cheapassgamer or a search engine like Orbitz or Sidestep to help facilitate things. Thanks in advance.

It's pretty sweet. Thanks!!

Other names you may have heard of with ties to BALCO: Tim Montgomery, Kelli White and Marion Jones.... ...and it's ironic that Nehemiah went to BALCO _after_ he was done with his track career...

When someone signs with the Raiders, do they get a "sue someone for free" card or something?
