What songs have you been diggin' lately?

I've been hooked on "Losing Grip" by Avril Lavigne for reasons that I cannot fathom. I've really liked "Why Don't You and I" by Santana/Chad Kroeger for most of the year, despite the radio overplay testing my patience, and the single version (with that guy from the Calling) sucking the meat missile for some odd reason - it's the same song, so how can they make it sound so much more generic? I'm still digging Sam Roberts' full length album. Why hasn't this guy been pushed in the US? And while I rag on CHR stations, I doubt that I'd have heard "Simply Being Loved" by BT. Enjoying that one very much. Honourary mention goes to "If You're Not The One" by Daniel Beddingfield as that's the song that always reminds me of my fiancee.

High Price of Fame: Out - E! Documentary

So are they going to profile Rosie O'Donnell's "success" since coming out? And now that E! has a show about being gay, has the trend of coming out jumped the shark?
  3. Yeah, that worked well for Birds of Prey, didn't it? Maybe this Catwoman's in the same part of the DC multiverse - Earth-WTF. Rhodey was IM previous to that - he was the Iron Man that was originally part of the West Coast Avengers. I think this was the period when Stark was a raging alcoholic, but don't quote me on that one.
  4. Well, the costume itself - what little of it there is, that is - sucks. Halle Berry showing some skin is not a bad thing. Still, it's not everything. I reserve judgement on the movie until I see something about the plot, and whether Berry has her working shoes on for the film. So, a Smallville where everyone has powers, a Gotham where Batman quit and every other person is a mutagenetic, a Flash who Quantum Leaps on missions, and of course, Halle Berry. What's next? An Aquaman who has no powers, but just swims real well?

    Greatest literary villains?

Judging from the Expanded Universe books from that era it was SOP to have a villain-of-the-month. And let's face it - some other author would have fucked up the character. And no, I'm not talking about Kevin J Anderson. He's not the greatest writer, but he does have respect for the EU characters.

    Manuel and Hargrove Fired

Getting blackballed by THE MAN. Well, it seems like it, anyways. The guy managed the Jays to back-to-back World Series, so you'd think that there would be some takers. However, Gaston is not your guy if you're rebuilding - he can make a good team better, but he can't make a bad team good.

    2003-04 NHL predictions

Well, Ken Klee's signed with Toronto, so now we know the answer to that. Klee is obviously the guy that puts Toronto over the top in their run for the Stanley in 2003-04. OK, maybe not. I'm of the opinion that my Leafs aren't winning anything until we get rid of Dummy...er, Domi. Now, if we can just find a team to take him...

    Greatest literary villains?

Some people just don't like the expanded universe. It's their loss. Without Zahn's trilogy, you probably wouldn't have the prequels, or the Special Editions. OK, that's not necessarily a good thing. Still, Thrawn was a great character, since he wasn't balls out evil - he would do his nefarious deeds in a subtle sort of way, but more often than not he did things because he was That Damn Good. I like the Yuzhaan Vong as well, because writers have been allowed to flesh out the species for 18 books, and that gives them more depth than the "flavour of the month" villain that populated some of the earlier Star Wars novels. Branching out from galaxies far, far away... Iago in Othello, Moriarty in the Sherlock Holmes novels, Big Brother in 1984 are favourites of mine in books that I've read.

Can you work with music on?

I use the MusicMatch player at work, and just leave it on unless I'm going to lunch. Nothing hard, mostly AAA (adult album alternative) stuff from the past couple of years, and some dance tunes. Keeps me productive, or at least it keeps people from bothering me too much...

Need a bit of fantasy football help

I'm assuming you're still shopping Gannon around then. The general rule of thumb says that you don't trade a clear-cut starting RB unless you're getting one back in return. If you can swing a Gannon-for-Green deal, then by all means go for it. You may want to consider that the Packers are playing Seattle and the Raiders are playing Chicago next week. Gannon should do well and that would maximize his value. William Green is at a low in terms of value right now - I traded Crumpler and a 3rd for him and Kyle Brady in my keeper league. Still, if you're looking at getting McAllister, Barber or Portis you're probably looking at Green PLUS a receiver (a hot one, not necessarily your best one) to land one of them.

That's the kind of advice I'm talking about - where to go to get the greasy, messy, clog-your-arteries goodness known as a Philly cheesesteak...

I'm glad I wasn't playing a team that had Manning as their QB. Yikes. And could I have been more wrong in choosing Ramsey?

    2003-04 NHL predictions

My predictions: - I will not bitch about Tie Domi 100% of the time. Some of that time will be devoted to bitching about Bryan Marchment - Don Cherry will show favouritism towards the Maple Leafs - CanadianChris' Bobby Clarke picture will be dragged out at least 4 times during the regular season. - Mike Ricci will shock the world by becoming even more of an ugly mofo. - Based on the ESPN NHL Hockey ads, Glen Sather will sign Tracy Morgan to a 5 year, $50 million dollar contract.

    ESPN's "Playmakers"

A generic devout Christian. I guess his only role was really to put DH on the path to redemption... Well, aside from the other lineman, they ARE the only players listed in the credits...

The One and Only Rundown Thread

USA Today onle gave it ** and called it "middle of the road". But then, they called "Very Bad Things" one of the worst movies of the 90's, so fuck 'em. Same director, you know. Yep, I knew. The end of the review basically says "what did you expect from the director of Very Bad Things?", so if you didn't know previously (which I did), you would by that point.
