Worst Franchise in North American Sports

OK, so going 1-15 isn't bad? IIRC, the Cardinals have had very few winning seasons (i.e. > .500) since WWII. The Tigers, at least, have won a league title. So from an overall standpoint, it's probably the NFL Cardinals. As for the NY Rangers, I'm not sure that they're the worst over the past year, but they definitely are the team with the most wasted potential. But I'm thinking that once Moose retires the "Ewing Theory" (you play better once your marquee player is injured long term/retires) will kick in and they'll go far in the playoffs. But, my pick for this year is any of the 3 pro teams that use a tiger motif. Consider: Detroit Tigers (38-117). I'll say this about the Tigers - I think that their starting staff would have much better records if their O didn't suck. And FWIW, I think that they're better than the 1962 Mets. Cincinnati Bengals (0-3). The Bengals are rebuilding AGAIN, but at least they're doing it somewhat right, by leaving Kitna out there and bringing Carson Palmer along slowly. The last two games have at least been by a touchdown or less. Hamilton Tiger-Cats (1-13). The Ticats won their first game last week, and their point differential is 246 against, or 17.6 pts per game. Well, at least they don't have the owner's son playing QB for them.

    The Emmy Awards

I didn't see the show, but these two impress me. They went the predictable route with all the "...Raymond" love, but I'm pleasantly surprised that the Daily Show won over more "respectable" shows like Letterman and Leno. I'm also surprised that TAR won over American Idol and the AFI special, and hopefully this means another season from CBS. FYI, CBS has agreed to casting for The Amazing Race 5, which for reality shows almost guarantees that it'll be back on. The Daily Show deserves the Emmy. Fake news, a funny host (OK, Conan's funny as well), and guests who don't simply rely on the standard jokes and plugs. What's not to like? TAR2 was the one with the Cha Chas, Tara and Will and the Boston Boys. (Shut up) Flo was in TAR3

    New Releases for 9/17/03

Agent X #14, $2.99 Uncanny X-Men #431, $2.25 Weapon X #12, $2.99 I also picked up the most recent New X-Men, and Spoiler (Highlight to Read): I'm sure those anti-Charlie Chan people would be pissed off. I mean, ANOTHER white guy impersonating a Chinese man? j/k, of course

New FLASH Series in the Works at WB

Come on now... that treadmill was CRUCIAL in Crisis... That was my point. How is one to believe that time travel can be achieved without either using a treadmill or slingshotting yourself around the sun?

New pic of Anakin from Ep. 3...

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought that...

Don't feel too bad - people that have Donovan McNabb are probably not too happy right now either...

    The Joe Schmo Show

This is one of the really fun parts of this show - trying to figure out what the heck the writers are trying to set up. I didn't think about why Molly would "vote" for Earl - rather, I was thinking of who would "vote" for Ashleigh (although why you vote off a chick who can put her fist in her mouth and paints with her body is beyond me) and the 3 who I thought it would be were Matt (because we see it), Earl (because his word is his bond, blah, blah blah) and Brian (because he's "the buddy"). So OK, maybe Molly voted for Brian, playing off of Matt's "random vote" from ep 1. On a side note, does anyone actually know someone who is stripper hot, yet is still a naive, innocent virgin? Just curious.

Dark is home and white is away?

That's what I was thinking, seeing as that's one of CCM's more recent "heritage jerseys" As for who will don the retro jerseys (from the article that nl5xsk1 posted previously): I suppose that, in theory, the Blues could wear the Scouts sweaters, but I think that they'll probably just go with their expansion look. The Canadiens... I dunno - the Maroons, maybe? Whatever it is, I think they'll be wearing them on Nov 22 at Commonwealth Stadium.

    The Joe Schmo Show

Ashleigh - Matt, Earl, Brian Earl - Ashleigh, Dr. Pat, Molly, Kip Brian - Hutch Hutch and Kip coulda been flip-flopped though. Strategy-wise, they're portraying Hutch as the wild card who is in every alliance but is in no alliance - a play on Rob from the last Survivor. Brian's a writer on the show, so I wouldn't be surprised if he stays on very late into 'the game'. Also, I wonder if they tell the actors who is 'going home' before the ceremony?
  11. I have Batman - I figured that since some of the Batman stars do the convention circuit that a signed DVD would be pretty cool. Of course, the last time I saw some Batman stars they were Julie Newmar and Yvonne Craig, neither of whom were in the movie. Anywys, if I can find Very Bad Things (a great movie btw) or King of the Cage then I'll pick them up...

    Shock Wins!

Another month or two, and Detroit will once again have a winning team to cheer for. As for the Shock winning... eh, it's still the WNBA.

Dark is home and white is away?

The Avs and Habs had an exhibition game at the Colisée last year, and they were toying with the idea of having Colorado wear Nordiques uniforms, but they decided against it. Smart move. While I could see 50% of the crowd loving it, the 50% that hated it could cause some serious damage...

    Best. Graphic Novel. Ever?

    Don't you mean 1602 Yes, I did.

    JLA/Avengers

To whet your appetite, here's a link to a (rather large) black and white image of JLA/Avengers #3. I think Perez may have gotten EVERY JLA and Avenger member, EVER on this one, and some that weren't really members, like the Great Lakes Avengers. Looking at this, I'm not sure what's more insane - this, or the pencilwork he did for Alex Ross' Crisis TPB cover...

Dark is home and white is away?

Shouldn't they wear the Kansas City Scouts sweaters instead? And what does Dallas wear? Cleveland Barons? California Golden Seals? And does this signal the return of the Golden "V" sweater in Vancouver, or the Stick/Rink "C"?

    Best. Graphic Novel. Ever?

The intertwining of the "everyman" with the heroes made for a great visual. Kingdom Come stands out on it's own, but without that connection to the common man, I couldn't get into it quite as much as Marvels. Like 1603, it's a great story, you feel a little too "detached" from everything that's going on.

    JLA/Avengers

...yes it has, but wait until we start getting into stuff like "yeah, but what if Warbird was still Binary" and other tangential things... I'm hoping that Busiek and Perez throw in a mini-New Warriors reunion with Firestar, Justice, Rage (mind you he was only a probationary member) and Darkhawk. Hey, even if it's only two panels, I'll probably mark out like... well, like a New Warriors fan, I guess.

I've actually no problem with the time travel itself - but without using a treadmill it's just preposterous...

Triple H pins first film roles

If he gets more screen time than Donnie Yen did in Blade 2 I'll be pissed. Now, the burning question on EVERYONE'S mind is... Who'll be the better flunky, Nash or HHH?

    Best. Graphic Novel. Ever?

If you're talking about something that came out in a GN format and not TPBs... I'll say The Killing Joke or God Loves, Man Kills. If you include TPBs... The Watchmen.

    Did Simon Cowell

Isn't 5ive a foursome (4our?) now? 5ive had some catchy tunes. Westlife I remember mostly from their covers (More Than Words and Against All Odds) but they were more like a younger Boyzone weren't they? And wasn't it the other Simon from American/Pop Idol that produced the Spice Girls?

    JLA/Avengers

I would think that at this time, the X-Men are more powerful than the Avengers...

Dark is home and white is away?

That's true. It's all about the money. Funny enough though, the Leafs third jersey is white. Another thing to think about is that originally the dark jerseys WERE home jerseys, so this could be seen as righting a wrong.

New FLASH Series in the Works at WB

Yeah, he played Dawson's dad. True, no yellow booties, but at least it was close and they had a good technobabble explanation for the suit. Shipp did play Barry Allen (albeit a dark-haired one) but no Iris West. IIRC, they used her as an evil henchman of sorts in the pilot, and teased her as his girlfriend.
