That's another thing I'm unclear on. "Amnesia" could have charted based on the 'residual heat' from "Tubthumping" but I wouldn't go out and call it a true hit. All the same, from what I hear Chumbawumba could probably give a shit whether they have another hit or not... I remember seeing an interview with them a little while ago and they said they weren't looking for chart success, they just wanted to make music. Quite a rare thing for a band nowadays. That's quite an easy thing to say when your band has zero fans and couldn't buy their way into the top 40. Yes, but they're supposedly anarchists so making top 40 charts is probably not high on their list of priorities.

Um, his legs ALWAYS look like they're flailing around, wires or no. Still, I wouldn't begrudge him if he was wearing a wire for this one. With the budgets you get on US-made movies, and again the fact that he's 50, I'd definitely err on the side of safety, even on one of his "signature" stunts.

You mean "Cleveland Rocks" was NOT a top 40 hit? Speaking of TV theme songs, I'd think that The Rembrandts qualify as a two hit wonder: "Just The Way It Is Baby" and "I'll Be There For You", which I don't think ever charted on Billboard (since it wasn't released as a single until AFTER it peaked on radio ) but made all the other top 40 lists.

Just how bad will Jersey Girl be next year?

If you haven't noticed, the spin has already started, as Smith and others have noted that Lopez dies off in the first 15 minutes, and that the TRUE love interest in the movie is Liv Tyler. Also, the movie is scheduled far enough away that it should be sheltered from the Gigli backlash. Now, if Kevin Smith would get back to writing that fricking Spider-Man/Black Cat comic, I'd be very happy... -
"She Drives Me Crazy", "Good Thing" and "Johnny Come Home" were their big hits, but they also had "Suspicious Minds" and "Don't Look Back", but again I don't know what was a hit Stateside since I lived in Canada...

I am shocked, SHOCKED that noone has expressed love for Michael Bolton yet. ... ... ... Well, OK, maybe I'm not...

Five? Damn, I didn't realize that. How about Spandau Ballet then? "True" is an obvious hit, "Communication" may have charted, and I'm not sure if they've ever had another song stateside. ...did Nena's "Just A Dream" ever chart? ...and has S Club had anything other than "Never Had A Dream Come True" chart in the US? ...I'm also unsure as to whether Aaliyah actually had more than two hits. I'll also throw out these for consideration: - Bonnie Tyler, "Total Eclipse of the Heart" and "I Need A Hero" - Irene Cara, "Fame" and "Flashdance (What A Feeling)"

CTD's hits would probably be "Superman's Song" and "Mmm, Mmm, Mmm" (which must have been some sort of hit as Weird Al parodied it). They've had a few other assorted hits in Canada, but I assume we're not counting that. Others off the top of my head: - Men At Work: "Down Under" and "Who Can It Be Now?" - Milli Vanilli: "Girl You Know It's True" and "Blame It On The Rain" - Vanilla Ice: "Ice Ice Baby" and "Play That Funky Music" I think All 4 One was a two hit wonder as well, and maybe The Fugees.

Adam Warlock beat Thanos, but only because Thanos 'subconciously' wanted to be beaten.

Mo' money, mo' money, mo' money... Brotherhood of Evil Mutants (Magneto, Quicksilver, Scarlet Witch, Toad, Mastermind) Vs. The All-New, All-Different X-Men (Cyclops, Wolverine, Nightcrawler, Shadow Cat, Colossus, Storm) - I love the classic Uncanny team. The Outsiders (Batman, Halo, Geo-Force, Black Lightning, Katana, Looker, Metamorpho) Vs. The Masters of Evil (Baron Von Zemo, The Executioner, The Enchantress, The Melter, Black Knight I) - See, Magneto's team was just a BROTHAHOOD o' evil (but includes a woman), but these guys are MASTERS of evil. How can you go against that? The ‘Original’ Avengers (Captain America, Giantman, Thor, Iron Man, The Wasp) Vs. The Sinister Six (Dr. Octopus, The Hobgoblin, Electro, Kraven the Hunter, The Vulture, The Sandman) - Spidey villains good. The Defenders (Hulk, Namor, Dr. Strange, The Silver Surfer) Vs. The Injustice Gang (Lex Luther, The Joker, Dr. Light, Ocean Master, Circe, Mirror Master) JLA: Magnificent Seven Version (Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern Kyle Raynor, Flash III, Martian Manhunter, Aquaman) Vs. Justice League International (Booster Gold, Blue Beetle, Guy Gardner, Fire, Ice, Batman, Martian Manhunter) - Sure, the Magnificent 7 is more powerful, but are any of them MAN enough to sport a bowl cut? Exactly. Fantastic Four (Mr. Fantastic, The Invisible Woman, The Human Torch and The Ever-Loving Blue Eye’d Thing) Vs. The Green Lantern Corps (Hal Jordan, Killowog, Tomar Re, The guy that looks like Asparagus, G'Nort) - Asparagus guy almost swings me to the GL Corps, but the FF started the whole Marvel thing. The West Coast Avengers (Hawkeye, Mocking Bird, Wonderman, Tigra, Hank Pym) Vs. The Original X-Men (Cyclops, Angel, Beast, Marvel Girl, Ice Man) - Hey, if they were the Great Lakes Avengers then I might be swayed... The Teen Titans (Nightwing, Starfire, Cyborg, Changeling, Jericho, Raven, Donna Troy) Vs. The Doom Patrol (Robotman, Negative Man, Elastic Girl) - Titans Forever! Or at least this round...

'bout fricking time. I hope they keep the Sarge bumpers in for the season 3 (or was it 2?) shows though.

Beast Wars: The Complete First Season, because I'm a Transformers mark, and this was a really good series IMO, although some didn't like it.

Maybe because it's not a sport And bodybuilding, roller derby and a dog show are? Martial arts nowadays is considered a sport, but calling a Bruce Lee movie a sports movie is really stretching it. My point was that SI was playing very loose with the definition of a "sports movie", so something like Backyard Dogs can fit in there, as they play fast and loose between works and shoot(out)s. Hell, since they've got competitions on their top 50, put Highlander on there since it's a 'competition' between swordsmen where you try not to get your head lopped off...
-
OK, they have Pumping Iron, Rollerball, Fist Of Fury and Best In Show on the list, so I must ask this question: How did Backyard Dogs not make the 10 worst list? The lesson to be learned here is that I will continue to look to ESPN.com Page 2 for irreverent things about sports, like TMQ's cheerleader of the week.

My brother went to an all-boys Catholic high school, so yeah, it's a possibility.

Hot Shots and Hot Shot: Part Deux
starvenger replied to Ed Wood Caulfield's topic in Television & Film
It's because we, as people, have a need to be accepted by others. Well, that or it's just a good line to start with. I liked Hot Shots: Part Deux better than the original, but they are both very worthy, especially since they don't cover the same ground. Favourite quotes (well, paraphrases) and other stuff: All the female characters have Rodham as part of their surname. "The secret to The Crying Game - She's a guy" Harbinger: "War. It's Fantastic!!" Hayman (on why he can't leave the prison): "...they've tied my shoelaces together." Harley: "A knot. Bastards." -
The Proops/Anderson interaction was ALWAYS funny, but I noticed that Clive never really had any comebacks whenever Greg pulled out the "no neck" card. I actually like the UK Whose Line "Hollywood" eps better than the ABC eps. Debra Wilson and Phil Lamarr had good stints there, plus Wayne Brady wasn't on every single show. Wayne's great at what he does, but having him sing songs EVERY show takes away from the improv aspect. Then again, the ABC version seems to do the same games every time out, doesn't it? My top 3 women are Josie Lawrence (whose 1 US appearance was pretty funny, if only for the swearing), Kathy Greenwood and Debra Wilson. In the US, reruns can be cut down to 22 minutes from 20 or 21 (can't remember which), resulting in edits and (of course) more ad revenue. In Canada, I believe that you can only have 12-14 minutes of commercials per hour, which is why you see "newsbreaks" and such every hour - they help fill up that 1-2 minute void left from the US programming. Which is why things like UK shows are less edited. Legend has it that the ad time discrepancy is how the Mackenzie Brothers were created on SCTV...

Macho Man covering Bryan Adams? Yikes. Odd tangential coincidence - my brother's high school buddy is on Canadian Idol and he sang "Straight From The Heart" last week...

Although I'm a Power Rangers mark, some of the music made me cringe - mostly because of the lyrics. Not as much as the annoying little puke in PR Turbo, but close...
