  1. Eh, screw the people who aren't ready for the DTV transition. There's no good excuse for not being ready. Most of the people who aren't ready are probably the stubborn type who won't do a damn thing until their TV goes dark.

Best Buy is wrong about the Sony though, its not 120hz if its a kdl42v4100 which is the V Series Bravia. Im not touching a LCD thats not 120 hz.

Yeah, the KDL42V4100 is the one in the ad. It's pictured next to a 46-inch LCD, which is also advertised as 120hz. I'm guessing someone screwed up and that the 120hz feature was only supposed to apply to the 46-inch.

  2. With Circuit City going out of business I think I'm going to head over there this weekend and finally make the leap to HDTV. Unfortunately their website is down so I can't get a look at what they have. I'm looking for something for gaming and sports, basically. But I'm not looking to spend over $1,000. Any tips/hints/words of advice?

If you're still looking for one, check out Best Buy instead. They'll have some decent HDTVs on sale starting this Sunday. For example, they'll have a Sony 42-inch 1080p 120hz LCD for $999.99 (it will be on the cover of the weekly ad). If you're looking for a plasma instead, there will be a Panasonic 42-inch 1080p for the same price. Or you could just get the 46-inch right now for the same price. If you want the 46-inch plasma, you'll want to get it soon, because it's pictured in Sunday's ad at a higher price.

  3. Buying anything by Monster is the tech equivalent of lighting your cigars with 100 dollar bills.

Very true. I've seen people pay ridiculous prices for HDMI cables at Circuit City and Best Buy, mostly because of the employees pimping Monster. People seem to think that because they're more expensive, they're better than cheaper cables.

Personally, I'd recommend Monoprice. In my last order, I paid less than $15 for two HDMI cables, shipping included.

The only problem I had with the BR player I got was that the BD Live compliance is tied to the fact that you have to buy a usb memory storage thing and put it into the back of the set (most compliant sets have the storage built in). I suppose at the price of storage these days, it was cheaper this way since I got 4 GB for $10 and most models with built in storage only have 1 GB and they all cost too much.

Any particular reason you chose the S350? Just curious, as I haven't seen any decent deals in the past few weeks for it, and the DMP-BD35 and DMP-BD55 have both generally received better reviews.

  4. The Iron Man steelbook looks better in person. FYE is currently running a promotion which allows you to get certain new releases for $9.99 if you trade in 3 DVDs. There's also a $7 mail-in rebate. So, if your local FYE is running the promotion, and you have some DVDs you'd like to dump, it might be worth checking out. Just don't go in expecting to dump some cheap lame-ass DVDs.

FYE will also be having a steelbook for The Dark Knight.

  5. Target's helmet case is available on both Blu-ray and DVD.

As for the Best Buy gift set, it's Blu-ray only in Canada and DVD only in the U.S.

The $50 Sideshow gift card has some restrictions. It can only be used on select items and it can't be applied toward sales tax or shipping.

Personally, I went with the steelbook at FYE.

  6. Good season opener. This actually felt like an extended episode instead of two back-to-episodes.

Dwight: "Wait a minute, one more bit of eclair each. Hold it in your mouth if you can't swallow."

    Jim (to Michael): "Really? Nothing?"

Ryan: "I've even started volunteering. Giving back to the community."

Jim: "That's great. You're talking about your court ordered community service?"

Ryan: "I don't need a judge to tell me to keep my community clean."

    Jim: "But he did, right?"

Jim: "When Michael told us Jan was pregnant, he led us to believe he was the father...by telling us that he was the father."

  7. I've never seen anything from the Star Trek franchise. I've just never had any interest in it.

I generally avoid MTV, so I haven't seen (and don't plan to see) The Hills, Super Sweet 16, the various "dating" shows, etc. I also haven't seen most of the shows on VH1. As a general rule, I'm not interested in reality shows and game shows.

I've never seen any anime (unless Voltron counts).

    TV Shows:

    - Battlestar Galactica

    - Dr. Who

    - Stargate

    - Angel

    - Firefly

    - Mystery Science Theater 3000

    - Cheers

    - Grey's Anatomy

    - Ugly Betty

    - most of Aaron Spelling's shows

    Movies:

    - any of the Harry Potter movies

    - any of the Pirates of the Caribbean movies

    - the LOTR sequels (I tried to watch Fellowship on three separate occasions, but fell asleep each time)

    - the Matrix sequels

    - the Jurassic Park sequels

    - both Hostel movies

    - any of the Saw movies

    - any of the spoof movies like Epic Movie, Date Movie, Disaster Movie, etc.

    - The Da Vinci Code

    - The Passion of the Christ

  8. I don't really hate anyone in MMA, but there are some fighters I don't care for.

Chuck Liddell - mostly for the same reasons as LOTC. The fanbase comment was pretty much spot-on. I was reading through some older posts, and someone actually asked if Chuck Liddell vs. Brock Lesnar would be a good fight.

Tim Sylvia - honestly, I don't have a good reason right now, except that I think he's boring.

Ken Shamrock - sucked as a coach on The Ultimate Fighter and came across as a douchebag. I can't remember the last time I was impressed by a Ken Shamrock fight. He might be one of the most overrated fighters in UFC history. If you were to judge Shamrock by his post-WWF run, you'd probably question his place in the UFC Hall of Fame.

Quinton Jackson - He doesn't like to train, he's overrated as fuck, and he killed a baby.

Why is Rampage's dislike of training such an issue for you? You're making it sound like Rampage is lazy because he doesn't enjoy training. Do you think he doesn't train hard or something? Because you'd be wrong.

  9. Yeah there was no reasonable explanation how he came back to life after the ending of part 8, when he basically dissolved in the acid bath, and then back into a child. Made no sense at all, unless the plan was for part 8 to originally be the final Friday. I guess the assumption is that somehow Jason escaped New York and that was all a hallucination?

From what I've read in the past at various places, an early version of the JGTH script contained an opening which would have cleared up the ending of Part VIII. I can't confirm that any of this shit is true, but here's how things supposedly go:

Jason gets washed away by the toxic waste. The image of Jason as a child is a hallucination by Rennie (the female lead in Part VIII). Rennie has several hallucinations of Jason as a child throughout the movie, making it a plausible theory.

JGTH opens with a shot of the hockey mask in the sewers. A gloved hand reaches down and picks it up. Jason, still steaming from the toxic waste, puts the mask on, only to have it mold to his face. Jason would then be shown walking out of the sewers, having been washed back near Crystal Lake.

  10. I agree with those who consider New Line's movies to be "non-canon." I also ignore Part V (for reasons mentioned above) and Part VIII. My main problems with Part VIII are Jason's ability to teleport and the ending. I've heard some people say that Jason turning back into a child is supposed to be a hallucination, but that wouldn't make things any better.

  11. Mask of the Phantasm easily blows away Burton and Schumacher’s Batman movies. It still holds up well, which is something I can’t say about the other four. I’d also rank Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker and Batman & Mr. Freeze: SubZero above Burton and Schumacher’s movies.

I had fond memories of Burton’s Batman movies until I revisited them three years ago. I thought both movies didn’t hold up very well and that was before I saw Batman Begins.

I revisited Batman ‘89 and Batman Returns a few weeks ago to see if my opinion would change, and I found them to be worse than before. My biggest complaint is probably the poor treatment of characters.

    - Bruce Wayne never really comes across as a self-absorbed and somewhat irresponsible playboy. That persona is supposed to be one of the main reasons people wouldn’t suspect Bruce to be Batman.

    - Jim Gordon is a minor character. He’s treated as an afterthought. He’s basically a generic police commissioner who happens to be named Jim Gordon.

    - The Penguin as a deformed freak living in the sewers. It’s too much of a departure from the comics.

  12. Rampage sucks? Based on what?

Based on the fact I never thought Rampage was that impressive of a fighter to begin with. He's even admitted before that he hates to train.

That still doesn't explain why you think Rampage sucks. If you hate him, that's fine. But if you're going to say that he sucks, and imply that he's not a "real MMA fighter," you should be able to (semi)intelligently back it up. Saying Rampage sucks because he doesn't like to train doesn't count as an intelligent reason.

There's a difference between not liking a fighter and saying that he sucks. I think Matt Hughes is a dick, but I wouldn't say he sucks.

Many of you are just being a bunch of whiny bitches, even though Quinton lost the fight fair and square. I hate it when fanboys make fucking excuses for their favorite fighter's losses. "Whaaaaaaaaa! The fight was rigged!
    "

Oh, come on. If the fight was declared a draw or if Rampage had won, you'd probably be bitching. It was a close fight and I can understand why some people are complaining.

So Juanito Ibarra thinks Rampage got the first round 10-8. Wonder what fight he was actually watching while the real one was going on.

That reminds me. Is Ibarra going to retire now like he said he would?

  13. Last night's fight reminded me why Quinton Jackson is one of the most overrated and boring UFC fighters to ever step into the Octagon. He's all power, just punches and some slams here and there. No finesse or real style whatsoever. Quinton Jackson SUCKS and that's why he lost a REAL MMA fighter! FUCK RAMPAGE!

Rampage sucks? Based on what? A decision loss in a pretty close fight?

A loss doesn't necessarily mean a fighter sucks. Anderson Silva made Rich Franklin his bitch (twice), but that doesn't mean Franklin sucks. GSP lost to Matt Serra in the first round, but that doesn't mean GSP sucks. Going by your logic, I could say "Forrest SUCKS and that's why lost to a REAL MMA fighter like Keith Jardine!"

Oh, and technically, Vegas isn't Griffin's hometown.
