That was the first year that I had seen all of the nominated movies...and I was very happy that Ryan didn't win. It was my least favorite of the 5. I thought that The Thin Red Line was twice the war movie that Ryan was. I thought The Truman Show should have won and it didn't even get nominated. Had it come out after the Reality TV craze it probably would have been more appreciated. The Truman Show was a great movie. The problem with it though is that it came out right after Batman and Robin, Liar Liar, The Cable Guy, Ace Ventura 2. People and Critics didn't really start viewing Jim as a good actor until The Truman Show came out.

The Knicks were able to knock out the heat in 98, 99 and the second round in 2000. That helped ease the pain of the fucking NBA suspending half of the Knicks roster in 1997 for leaving the bench. I still cant believe that Ewing was suspended for a game for going to the mid court area to watch the fight which was underneath a basket. It's a fucking shame that Mourning was able to leach and steal a championship with the 06 Heat after the stunt that he pulled in New Jersey.

Ooo ok. I just remember Hoop Dreams being on almost every critic top 10 list. Siskel and Ebert called it the best Movie of the year, Ebert called it the best movie of the 90's. I can understand it being left off the best picture list but being left off best documentary.

I am suprised that nobody has mentioned Hoop Dreams being a snub. It wasn't even nominated in the Best Documentary category.
