Birchill called up? RAW worker w/ familiar role?
notJames replied to Fökai's topic in The WWE Folder
I dunno. Maybe it's the superfluousness of the backflip. Sure, it's impressive that a man that size can do one, and sure, it's impressive that he can do it while holding another human being. But is it really necessary? Will doing the flip hurt more than just slamming the guy to the mat? On its own, sure it's an interesting move. but in the context of a match, it's just kinda there with no purpose. It just seems like more flash than anything. Maybe it's because it looks like a Japanese armdrag, which I also think looks silly. To each his own. -

The C4 ruins my suspension of disbelief the way the Canadian Destroyer does. Plus it looks kinda silly, like I'm watching Cirque de Soleil. Doing it from the top rope might make it look more "real", but as it is, I'm not all that impressed. -
As much of a fan as I am of Owen Hart, I doubt he'll ever get his own DVD for the reasons others have already stated. They might do a Hart Foundation one, where they can cram in stuff from all five members, like tag matches between Bret/Anvil and the Bulldogs, Owen and Bulldog's tag matches, Pillman's work with Austin in the Hollywood Blonds, and obviously the Canadian Stampede match. If they can do a Legion of Doom DVD, they could definitely do a Hart Foundation one.

In a perfect world, it would have been Owen…

Brothers-in-law. I would prefer Benoit doing it, because he would maintain an air of dignity and respect second to none, considering how he reveres the Hart family. Plus, I like having active wrestlers do the honours, as long as there is a real connection between the inductor and inductee. As for the Bret Hart DVD, if anyone has a direct line to Santa, tell him this DVD and the Sin City SE are all I want.
-
Haven't seen it yet, but with all the good things I've heard from people I trust, plus the fact that I hate owning non-SE DVDs, I will wait until later this year to buy the SE. I might rent it first, but if it's as good as everyone says it is, I might just wait until I buy it to see it.

Where's the follow-up photo of Vince on the ground clutching his face and Bret rubbing his sore knuckles?
-
I agree with the opinion that Bret should not waste him time with any angles "Creative" could ever come up with, especially if it involves Jesus Boy. If he's really gonna go out with dignity, just do the DVD and the HOF. That's it. He doesn't need anymore than that. And WW_ have no right asking him for anything more.

How is Tatanka a legend? Seems more like a footnote.

I just hope they really aren't going with the whole Montreal Screwjob theme for the DVD ("Screwed"). Talk about beating a dead horse…

Nostalgia should be a punishable offense. And not to the viewing audience.

That kind of "argument" is so lame, and by that, I mean it doesn't have a leg to stand on.

Ultimate Warrior speaks out about his upcoming DVD
notJames replied to Downhome's topic in The WWE Folder
"Deluded" would probably be a more apt description than "psycho". Which still translates to me as "I ain't readin' that boring shit". And really, with all the guys that truly deserve a DVD retrospective, WW_ shouldn't be wasting their time on this circus hack, no matter the satirical content it might have. This guy ceased to be interesting a long time ago. -
And Carlito was using the Overdrive, which he supposedly dubbed the Cool Breaker, although I never heard any announcers call it as such. Now he uses Heel Tactic #5, dubbed by Michael Cole as "Not This Way!".

But with the tag team landscape being so devoid of talent, why would they do something so stupid? Are people's egos really that fragile? Did Nitro forget to shake Taker's hand or something. Fuck, I hate politics.

I vaguely recall Chavo tweaked something on his last SD! match, but you're right. They're probably building his character first so that the crowds will have something to boo about. Not like what they did with Buff Conway. And you can't even count the stuff they did with him on Heat, because that hardly ever translates to RAW acceptance (i.e. The Heartthrobs). I do, however, like what they're doing with Frankie Kazarian on Velocity. I just hope he starts doing some promos on SD! before giving him a seven-minute match with a JTTS.

But what happens after SS? Even if they cop out with a DQ or no-contest, what steam is left? They fight again and again (just like Edge and Kane), with each bout being less and less interesting. And it's not like you can plug in accomplices for tag bouts to freshen things up since Matt is essentially a loner. Unless they feed Snitsky to Matt, which I don't see them doing. Besides, Matt is painting himself more and more as a whiny ex-boyfriend, with that heavy-handed crap about wishing Edge dead and Matt "not being able to have children". What, did losing his job lower his sperm count? Does he have a narrow urethra now? There going to need some delicate spin-doctoring so that Hardy really comes off as sympathetic and Edge is displayed as a true asshole. Otherwise, the fans are going to shit all over this. The backlash is already starting.

Damn, beaten to the punch.

Ugh. I think those were "Before" and "Still Before" pics. The pizza bagel on her face is actually an improvement. And they better bust out those brass knuckles soon or this gimmick is gonna put more tarnish on MNM's already dwindling shine. BTW, do we now call them MNMJ? Why can't these idiots leave well enough alone? They could have given Jillian to any other wrestler who needed some heat, like… shit, SD! is boring me so much lately that I don't even remember who's on the show. Feh.

Or rather, the unemployment line. Like I said in the RAW thread, trying to maintain the whole shoot aspect of this "feud" is making them all look like jackasses. "Okay folks, the stuff we've been doing all along with Kane and Lita was FAKE™, but this stuff right here, this is REAL™. As evidenced by this thread and the folks in the stands, all it's doing is frustrating the smarts and confusing the marks. They should have just kept everyone's mouth shut until SS, and just say "OK, we admit it; Hardy's been here, and he won't stop until he gets Edge, so at SummerSlam yadda yadda yadda…" Fuckin' morons. And here I thought the announcement would be about moving back to the USA Network. This was much more anticlimactic.
-
That's not saying much. Man, I can't wait 'til SS is over so I don't have to put up with Jurassic Park 4 ever again. When your PPV is centered around two nostalgia acts, you know you're in trouble.
-
I wasn't sold at all with Hardy's promo. There's one thing to add a little reality to spice things up and give a nod to the smarts out there. It's another to completely obliterate the fourth wall and say, "Okay, this stuff we've been doing is fake. But this stuff... this is real. Seriously." Kinda takes the steam out of maintaining your suspension of disbelief. Plus, you could tell, Hardy was losing steam as his diatribe went on. I was so afraid he'd lose the crowd with his puffed-up rantings about wanting Edge dead; the car accident thing made me feel very uncomfortable, and I'm sure it put off a lot of people in the arena. I hope this Hardy/Edge feud has enough gas in it, because once it's over, I'm not sure how "over" Hardy will be afterward, especially if he loses. As for "Buff" Conway, I think the crowd was right. That match sucked. They needed to do some kind of series of vignettes to get the crowd acclimated with Rob Conway version 3.0 before trotting him out for a match, especially with an audience that didn't seem like a strong wrestling crowd (y'know, the way Philly and Chicago have a strong storied history with wrestling).
