Man after a disastrous beginning to the season OU manages to hang in there and go 7-1 in their last 8(should be 8-0 but they sucked at the end of KU) and they stay in the top 20. Kelvin did a nice job.

Hey KKK I've kind of learned you can't judge yourself on how heavily your stories are edited b/c every editor is different. Is that true? Because I'll write something for my editor and he will pretty much run it as is but another editor will take it to the cleaners. Like I wrote a story about recruiting for the campus desk and my editor loved it but the assistant managing editor took it apart. The scariest part was when he said "I barely edited your story compared to some of the people on campus desk."

Bah. That's what the copy editor is for. Not sure if that was meant for me, but it was always funny hearing students next to me talk about how much they love to write and want to be journalists, then when called on by the prof to give their opinion on a current event they would say, "oh, I don't follow the news." The profs feared calling on me. Well everyone else I know reads my stuff and tells me I'm a decent/good writer but I don't like it at all. I guess you're your own worst critic.

Well I get the LA Times online and I get my local papers. My editor and I discussed creating a columnist position at our paper. Because we're just a small student paper we usually only do the game stories and previews. But I may be the columnist next year that goes to all the games and writes columns off of it. Yeah it's a pretty interesting book. One of the ways I was told to get better in Journalism is just to read as much as possible. And as other journalists put it "Don't steal from other people but see how they write and see the different styles and borrow from everyone to create your own." I graduate in May of 2007(it'll be my 5th year of college) and I will have had 5 semesters of work at the school paper with clippings from OU golf, baseball, softball, basketball, and football to go in my portfolio. I hope I can stay in the area b/c I know the media around here so well but if I am offered a job somewhere else and it's all I can get then I'll take it.

Because it leaves me open for more if I'm more versatile. I've had just about every writer tell me that what I'm doing at the student paper(getting experience and compiling clips) is more important than what I'm doing in school anyway.

Man it's been a crazy week. I went to the legendary Phog Allen Fieldhouse on Sunday and then on Wednesday night I end up at historic Gallagher-Iba arena. Now I have to cover OU/Baylor in Norman on Saturday.....seems underwhelming.

Apparently Sampson being 0-7 in Lawrence isn't that shocking b/c I just found out that since the inception of the Big XII, 10 years ago, the Big XII South is 0-29 in Lawrence.

Fat guys are the only ones I ever see doing it.

How is Kansas now sole possessor of #2 in the Big XII and not in the Top 25 meanwhile OU and Colorado are behind them and both ranked?

I'm telling you guys. If you've never experienced a game at Phog Allen in then you're missing out. I really want to go to Cameron now. Where are some other arenas you have to experience?

KU beats OU by 1 today. OU led by 16 at one point but went on an OU trademarked drought and lost. I love Phog Allen though. The fans were awesome.

I've always considered the sports coat over the t-shirt and jeans but always decided against it out of fear of looking like a tard.

No they just got plain beat last year. But the knees and the broken hand could be an excuse for 2003. And yeah I'm a Celtics fan but I love my state more and so I want the Hornets to do well and stay so that my state will do better.
