"the problem is that you're speaking as if the problem has gone away, and it hasn't. the inherited racism of institutional and economic systems leaves a very long and very ugly mark. blacks don't live anywhere near an equal opportunity; if you were, say, twice as likely to end up in prison or twice as likely to be born of poor parents just because of your skin color, why wouldn't you be angry about that? " Angry with whom exactly? "moreover, why wouldn't you get mad when some little white kid, who was born into all sorts of opportunities you have to work twice as hard to get, says that racism isn't a problem anymore and we should all forget about it?" I see... Maybe the little white kid should be mad about the big bad black man that could achieve if he wants to but is really just lazy and commits more violent crimes in his city. Seriously, my original point is that we should be moving past this stupid mindset, history has shown it to be non productive and I don't see that trend changing. Again this country is still far from perfect but blah... http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/06108/682889-28.stm Wow, 45%. This is almost as isolated as your somewhat unfair Boston example, but you can find plenty of other success stories that support a trend of growing opportunity for so called minorities in this country. Don't underestimate the rise of the black middle class as well. I also don't find it amusing to downplay the significance of Obama's run but whatever. I really have no interest in beating this dead horse further.

Sorry, are you even an American? Most "blacks" in this country actually have European/Mostly British first names and surnames. Holding a grude for 400 years of oppression also worries me. Is it not understandable for a whiteman born into a generation where discrimination and racism is openly frowned upon to be a bit confused by this outlook? Race reltations in this country may not be perfect but when we see how far things have come with just one generation and see a man of the overwhelming minority in the run for President, maybe we should start trying to move past this damaging way of thought and just condemn Wright's rant for what it is. At any rate, I agree that it is doubtful this is the first time Obama heard these type of rants from Wright. He said and did the right things in response to this discovery but there are going to be some serious doubts now.

I can't believe one of those judges actually gave the fight to Diaz...nevermind it was a Don King promotion. Oleg was conviningly outboxing Peter and appearing to hurt him before getting overwhelmed. Oleg is still strong and can take a shot better these days but he has nothing left physically and should hang them up. Peter may have won but he keeps looking lazier and more out of shape with each fight. Hopefully, Vitali will step down and Wlad can easily unify against this slob. Haye was fucking impressive tonight, the guy has had some shaky moments in the past but hopefully he can step up and bring some excitement to the heavies.
-
Well shit, I might have to go with Oleg again. I can't remember the last time Atlas predicted anything right, even something as obvious as Wlad/Sultan. This past year you could have made a killing betting on the exact opposite of everything Atlas has predicted.
-
I initially slightly favored Oleg but too many injuries and too much time has killed any momentum he might have had coming in. Peter by late stoppage though I wouldn't be surprised if he gets roughed up a little himself; should still be an interesting but sloppy fight if Oleg shows up with any kind of motivation.
-
A real minimal effort from Wlad, just doing enough to get by and walk away with an effortless win. Both looked very quick when they did throw and Sultan took a few good shots I didn't think he could stand up to but what a stinker. The sad thing is that Wlad looked like he could land when he wanted to. Wins like this will probably hurt his publicity more than any of his past losses; will he still be able to draw big at the Gardens now? It looked like the crowd got royally pissed off at this farce. Pavlik/Duddy is off. Probably for the best, Duddy certainly didn't look like any kind of legit challenger last night.
-
Pavlik cruised this time while Taylor looked like he just wanted to finish the fight on his feet; though he looked like a goner in the last few rounds. Apparently, Pavlik's people is rumored to be in talks with Trinidad of all fighters....guess he's looking for an easy showcase or something. Hopefully, that doesn't go through.

Don't be fooled by shooting and scoring numbers. Harris is a good energy guy that can get to the basket but he can't get others going or run an offense at this point. Having watched many Dallas games in recent weeks, Avery Johnson was having to call many, many, many plays from the sideline when Harris would get lost and this was probably frustrating. A smart guy that can get great scorers like Howard and Dirk going is what they need right now, not yet another slasher. You also have to consider that Kidd hasn't really been his most motivated this season and playing with Dirk and Howard could sharping him up again. I do agree that Dallas needs to get some more depth in there as they are already showing some wear and tear.
-
I said it last year that Dallas needed a true PG and there you go. Harris will not be ready for a long time and Terry certainly can't run an offense, a smart player ball handler and passer like Kidd can get Dirk and Howard playing to their potential and put up some serious points. Its not like Harris was a one million anyway, he will never be a franchise player and other good energy guys will come along. But yeah, I think Dallas is still going to need more depth and muscle to get past the Suns and Lakers in a Playoff series. This is a great move though I think they could have used Gasol more.

"Crazy Train" isn't the best Ozzy/Rhodes song but it is pretty fucking far from bad. I find the whole song very enjoyable. Overplayed I'll agree with. I don't listen to radio much these days but Meticalla should be banned. Everything the band has done is not fm single worthy and there are other metal bands.

"Coffin Surfer, I wasn't reaching so much as my eyes were reaching into the back of my head when I read your statement. Seriously, aren't you supposed to understand someone when they are delivering a line in a film? Last I checked, that was an important component of "delivery." " Bah, this is hopeless. Nobody but you seemed to have a problem hearing what he was saying and please don't delude yourself into thinking your the only one honest enough to admit it. I would also think it was a powerful scene if I couldn't understand a word he was saying, his performance is written all over his face and the weary sound of his voice. And Oliver Stone sucks! Even when on the rare occassion he manages to get great performances out of his actors in something like "Platoon," he is quick to crush the impact with the excessive weight of his over the top mellowdramatic theatrics. The famous death scene that starts off reasonablly moving ends up being a self parody as he absurdly drags it out with every cliche in the book. And Jones has done some serious shit that I won't deny but he also has many, many acclaimed performances that are hard to discredit. Nonsense like "I can't hear him" is indeed reaching. Everyone sucked in Natural Born Killers outside of Sizemore, everyone sucked in Batman Forever, both Jones and Pesci were horribly miscast in JFK; so it is hard to single him out in those films nor is it fair to toss these stinkers out as evidence that he sucks.
-
"And to whoever thought Jones performance was the finest acting clinic ever captured on motion picture cinema film in the last 85 years or something, did you even understand everything he said without having to look up the quote on IMDB?" Well, I suppose your talking to me. I do have a username and badly misquoting my post doesn't really make it absurd; it just means your reaching. Obviously, Tommy Lee Jones has done his share of shit over the years but dwelling on the dreadful "JFK" and "Batman Forever" doesn't mean he didn't give fine performances in "Rolling Thunder", "The Executioner's Song", "The Fugitive" ,"Cobb", and the film in question.
-
Wow, Tommy Lee Jones' delivery of the closing monolouge might be the finest acting in the movie which is certainly saying something.

I fail to see how "Death Proof" was intentionally bad, playful and campy but not intentionally bad. Intentionally bad would be the uber ironic "Planet Terror." I actually prefer "Death Proof" because while it is obvious everyone is having fun it has entertainment value beyond all the constant "wink, wink" irony.

I'm thinking Roy decisions the even less active Tito(over two years is it?) but its not like it means anything.

The funny thing is that Shaq may not even be available to play these extra seconds, he's spending a considerable amount of time in suits this season.

Rob Zombie to direct next Halloween movie
Coffin Surfer replied to Lil' Bitch's topic in Television & Film
Yeah, this sucked. Terrible dialouge, pathetic acting (the best actors didn't have dick to do), horrible death scenes, no suspense, stupid white trash bullshit that is suppose to be character development, and terrible pacing as Rob tried to cram the entire original movie into a few minutes. I actually didn't believe the "Love Hurts" scene was real...wow. Malcom had an interesting bit about Michael becoming his life and I wish the movie expanded more on the always interesting Loomis character instead of the piss poor sprint the movie became. And Michael did show sympathy unforunately when he spared his babysister and later tried to...I don't know connect with her by killing her friends and showing her a picture. Fuck this stupid shit. -
Indeed, Valero's knockout streak is insane and Pacman isn't exactly a light hitter himself.
-
This whole season has been so tense that the tidy conclusion seemed pretty fitting, and most importantly, Dexter the character was heavily explored and developed even further while oddly leaving him where he began. I don't think I enjoyed this season as much as the first, but it was far more suspenseful and fluid. Rest in pieces, Doakes.

One should take into consideration that Tago Mago was a double album at the time of its production and was laid out to fit into this format. The second half was a compeltely different disc with "Augmn" making up one entire side so people can still enjoy the first disc and feel free to venture into the other wierder one at their own risk. I think they filled out the time fine but yes the most difficult track, "Augmn" is intentionally stretched out on one side so people can ignore it if they want to. "WHOOOAAAAA I DISCOVERED REVERB AND AUDIO PANNING cling clang bong bing bong" The songs are a bit more than that, there is a great deal of musical theory and structure employed. Doesn't mean you have to like them, but they are carefully arranged pieces of music with rising tension, themes, a climax, and a coda. They are just pretty fucking far removed from pop or rock music.

I guess someone should have told Soko that, seeing as he repeated corrected people when they tried to downplay what Ike did on that song. People wanted to hate Ike so much that they didn't want him to get any credit for it. This depends on what he was asked and what context it was in. I don't think anyone needs to dig up Soko and tell him that he is credited for arranging the rhythm section that propells the song and sets it apart so much from the original, it was said to be his most proud achievement in fact. Speaking of "downplaying" your intial post leaves out the innovative drummer credited for co-arranging the cover and refers to the arrangement soley as Ike's or his. Ike was a fairly weak song writer and overall arranger, it was his whammy guitar playing that I find most impressive and inventive.

Tago Mago is probably my favorite. When took as whole it is one of the most rewarding musical journies an album has ever took me on. I stand by that" Aumgn" is an incredible piece of music with one of the best drum solos I've ever heard, and "Peking O" is one of the best freakouts of all time with both tracks perfeclty setting up the haunting closer. Ege Bamyasi is great fun and indeed a good place to start, easily some of their best and most memorable stand alone songs. Future Days is beautiful organic ambience with "Moonshake" being one of the great unsung pop numbers of the past several decades. Anyone else heard 68 Delay, the bands intended debut? "19th Century Man" is fucking killer punk/funk before either genre came into its own.
-
Naked City's Absinthe might be one of the most terrifying things I've heard..and I mean that in a good way.
-
Oh for fuck's sake, It is well known that Soko Richardson was largely the mastermind behind the "Proud Mary" rearrangment. I know Ike's musical ability is underrated but let's not reinvent history because he just kicked the bucket....
-
The innovation of the song is largely in the distorted guitar which was Sam Phillips' idea after Kizart's amp got busted and he liked the sound. Ike put the song together from jams with his band and though it is just pumped up 12 bar blues there is still more fresh stuff than just the guitar and he deserves some credit. However, there is no denying that the song feely borrows from earlier sournces and a great deal of its inventive sound came from a fluke accident and smart risky production. There is a reason he doesn't get quite as much credit for originating rock n roll as other pioneers of the time, he simply doesn't deserve all the credit for the song's original sound. Obviouisly, Ike has done more than this and his talent has been overlooked to a degree because the Tina abuse and whatnot. edit-It should be noted that many consider Haley's version recored in 51 to be the true kick off of Rock n Roll because of the added country influences that define the genre. Kind of a continous build up and collection of influences with everyone down the line throwing in their two cents to lay down the ground work.
