Rob Zombie to direct next Halloween movie
Coffin Surfer replied to Lil' Bitch's topic in Television & Film
Michael surviving most of the Lauria induced traumas in the first film was intentionally plausible, it is not until his body disappears outside the window that it becomes clear he's much more than another pyscho; a cool spooky twist on Carpenter's part. You can throw logic out the window in the second film because it's already clear Michael is of the supernatural. -
"The weird chanting/shouting that comes halfway in Can's "Soup" tends to get on my nerves." The freakout in "Soup" is the best part of the song, in fact it essentially is the song and what makes it so special. Without it and the equally cryptic intro, "Soup" might be one of the less interesting songs on "Ege Bamyasi". On another note, I never understood how somebody could like Can but have a problem with abstract experimentation and wierdness. Seems contradicting somehow when even their "normal" songs save "Moonshake" are pretty out there and wierd in their own right. From "Pinch" to "Soup" from "Mushroomhead" to "Peking O" is not as big a leap of faith as people tend to make it out to be. To hear from some people(not you), it's like going from "Goodbye Hello" to "Revolution 9" and that is most certainly not the case. Anyway: The "..Yoko and me" line in "God" by John Lennon makes my teeth hurt.

Rob Zombie to direct next Halloween movie
Coffin Surfer replied to Lil' Bitch's topic in Television & Film
"He's a good writer and director, fuck you. " Despite more support and resources than most inspiring genre directors can only dream of and fucking, fucking, amazing experienced actors he hasn't really made a good genre movie in my book. He's not the worst writer and director obviously and even if you consider that 1000 Corpses isn't complete shit, his stuff is still pretty bad by reasonable standards. "My chief complaint in regards to Zombie is, again, his writing. All he seems to be able to do is write characters that say 'fuck' a lot. " He's decent with sleezy dialouge and the occassional bad ass one liner, lines like "I can still smell your wife's pussy on my gun." and "I'm here to do the Devil's work" are borderline gold. It's when Rob is trying too hard to be witty and develop characters that his writing gets cringe worthy, but yeah the word "fuck" in itself isn't that funny and someone should clue him in. "He's learning, though." Well, he did do much better with "Rejects" in that he didn't completely smother the actors with his shitty music video directing. Bill Mosley and co. actually got to shine and Forsythe is the man. That didn't stop Rob from giving up us "Freebird" and what not...but eh he did better. Learning how to actually pace a movie and develop real tension and suspense probably wouldn't hurt him either. As far as writing, he did actually come up with an inspired story and dare I say "theme" for this one, and it's hard to say how much was lost by his bad filmmaking. I haven't read the script but the story to "Rejects" doesn't seem bad save for the above mentioned crappy dialouge and the like. -
Rob Zombie to direct next Halloween movie

Now that's a cast. If there is one thing Rob Zombie does right it is cast his movies with beyond capable character actors. Fucking terrible director and writer however. It is quite odd that I find Devil's Rejects so appealing because of the acting, probably the last thing most would be looking for in the movie. -
Now were talking.... Five Deadly Venoms-Final Showdown Fist of White Lotus-Gordon Liu vs. White Lotus multiple times Kill Bill vol. 2-Beatrice vs. Driver Oldboy-Oh Dae Su takes out about 20+ thugs with a hammer in a narrow hallway From Russia with Love-Bond vs. Shaw Evil Dead 2-Ash vs. his hand 2LDK-30 plus minute fight to the death between deranged roomates, destroys upscale apartment in the process. Deadwood-Dan vs. that other fat guy. Sopranos-Tony vs. Ralph I remember the 80s Bad Boys having a hell of a fight between Sean Penn and that Mexican dude. I'll try to list more later....

Call it a gut feeling, but I see Hatton taking a decision. I think he has more momentum coming into the fight and will somehow pull it off. Despite a couple lackluster performances, Hatton looked good in his last fight and actually worked on the inside against Castillo, who wasn't shot until he got his ribs busted. Even if Hatton loses, I don't see this being another Gatti massacre. A Baldomir game of chase maybe but Hatton is lighter on his feet and busier than Bald.

Wow, I didn't get a utopia vibe from the original Dawn at all. There is overhwelming doom lurking in every scene, while the characters even appear bored and unhappy very quickly into the mall scenes. The pregant chick doesn't love Flyboy, Roy or Roger(name?) is dying, and Peter is lonely..etc. Obviously, Romero was making a point about shallow material happiness. The remake is much more of an ideal utopia during the "relaxed" scenes. But that's why the original is such superior filmmaking, George gave the characters and their situation so much more weight. Yeah, they are safe in the mall for some time but it won't keep them happy and content with their situation forever. The new one perhaps tried to do this with the "let's find an island for the sake of adventure" bullshit but it just doesn't work nearly as well.

Eh..this has been debated to death before but again, I don't much care for the "Dawn of the Dead" remake outside of the opening and the global carnage credits set to Cash's "When the Man Comes Around." The zombies weren't interesting, the characters ranged from tolerable to please get the fuck off the screen to completely faceless, little onscreen gore, terrible jokes, weak action, zero suspense and dread, and of course stupid random conflicts to fill the thin script out like "your not going to take my zombie baby!" , "we have to get the dog!" and the infamous security guards. There were rednecks in the remake, that fat zombie woman and her family for instance. I'd also wager the security guards were good ol boys. They just aren't as fun as the ones getting shit faced and target practicing in the original. Now the Night of the Living Dead remake ruled. Not the original of course, but damn good in its own right.

Payback should probably be on the list as it is a unfunny comedic take on Point Blank. Mel Gibson's performance annoys me to no end in that movie, did he really think talking like that sounded cool or something?

The "Jesus loves the little children" bullshit and forced comic relief in the otherwise classic Night of the Hunter. I could be wrong but I always got the impression that they were scared of censors/audience reactions and felt they had to lighten the overall mood to keep the darkness from being too overwhelming. Than there's Tarantino's delivery in Pulp Fiction. "Dun't you Jimmy me, Jules...kay?"

I saw the last four rounds or so, was pretty much what I expected. A patient Wlad picking his spots against a shelled up survival mode Brewster. The odd stoppage was probably for Brewster's best, but not exactly for the the fans or for Wlad(who didn't even look like he turned it up yet). Evidently, Wlad injured his left hand early and that hopefully won't prevent him from fighting again before the end of the year.

"Not to discredit Dempsey. Boxing was just fought differently in those times. I'm not certain a fighter could come from that era and win today without adjusting his style." They were tough as nails though; insane schedules by today's standards, lighter gloves, more rounds in most instances, no rules or early stoppages to protect hurt fighters. I'm not sure some would be as dominating but someone like Dempsey would still raise some serious hell. Tunney was a great fighter as well, I believe he only had like one lost before challenging Dempsey.

I should probably look into that Dempsey book, sounds interesting. Footage of him is limited but what's there is wild stuff. Them thin leather gloves man...damn. "I figure looking at some fundamentals and trying to gain an edge can't really be bad or anything. The way I look at it is that most people have bad habits, and it's hard for the trainer to correct them unless you're taking one on one lessons. I just figure to supplement my training in the gym with this would help me curb some of those bad habits before they start." Private training is the best if it's something your really serious about doing, though I imagine it's rare or expensive in some places. I used to study old school Tyson's leg leverage for punching power...though it obviously didn't help me much. Good luck if your pursuing some sort of career in boxing, and please be fucking careful in the ring regardless of circumstances. And in other news, it looks like Ruslan and Sultan is official for the first unification bout since the Holyfield/Lewis farce. From what I've seen, both were impressive against huge lugs they couldn't knock out. I see White Tyson pulling this one out with a possible decision though it's hard to say.

Eh, this is what I get for chosing to view a post. Discussing balls on the internet is about as fruitless as it is in real life, ignore function saves scrolling time, I come from a boxing family(though we suck), and almost all my posts are edited multiple times. Anyway, Dempsey's mauling of the 6'6" Willard is required viewing and proof that the better heavyweights of yesterday can't be discounted caue of their size. I would wager he would give most modern heavies a run for their money. I haven't read his book, sorry. Boxing lessons, I would recommend a trainer of some sort as your always going to be doing somthing wrong without knowing it. You need another set of eyes.

"Considering you've actually mentioned this fight as being interesting and/or competitive has thrown any proper context for your comments out of the window." So your intentionally misquoting me to prove a point nobody is arguing? And when you think you've read it all.... " Besides, you still offer drugging as a possible reason for Wladimir's complete meltdown, which is ridiculous as aside from low blood sugar levels, no evidence or motive for a possible drugging was never found." Well that explains this gem or why I shouldn't ask why crushing=competitive in your vocab or why your wasting your time struggling to argue about a fight you don't find interesting. Well, thanks for wasting my time and anybody else who's had the dumb luck of reading this pointless shit, and thank god for the ignore function.

Do please grow a sense of humor, the irony of setting up that statement with "smarter, better conditioned" couldn't be more apparent. My actual thoughts on the fight and the drug theory are stated earlier in the thread, but I know you just couldn't resist putting another ignorant "Wlad nuthugger" in his place, so please continue jumping the gun and chasing phantoms for my amusement at the very least. Glad to see it was tiresome Wlad hate and not love for boxing that got you to finally post in the boxing thread. Bravo. BTW, Wlad was visibly fatigued and lethargic before he started eating shots and Brewster made a go at it. The question is whether it was from teeing off on Brewster so much in the early rounds, being poorly prepared or yes, possibly drugged or having an ill advised rub down that caused Wlad to get so gassed not if it was phantom punches. As I said before, the simplest explanation is the best; he was poorly prepared and shot his load too soon, burned out, Brewster survived and made a run. This isn't exactly a new problem for some Emanuel trained fighters, Thomas Hearns says hello.

Which would set up the money fight the world has been waiting for Holyfield/Tyson III. There is some serious buzz over this Holyfield fight for some reason, though it sounds to me like it was just a case of him struggling to put away a burn out that never was and a ton of bullshit hype. Other boards have clowns talking about Holyfield reuniting the titles but the man seriously hasn't beat anyone noteworthy since he headbutted Rahman years ago, and the current champs and challengers are actually quite good with Valuev and Briggs out of the picture(who I'm not even sure Holyfield could beat at this point which is just plain sad).
-
So Holyfield's tomato can diet continues with talks of a title shot now. Did anyone see the fight? People are saying he was looking sharp, but I wander if he's even ready for Larry Donald or burned out Byrd again. He'll probably get a title shot because of his name vaule but I can't see him beating any of the current champs. He has a slim tough vet's chance against Sultan, White Tyson and Oleg but I cringe at the thought of him stepping in the ring with someone like Wlad or even Peter. I think a smarter, better conditioned Wlad doesn't drink from strange water bottles and crushes Brewster in the middle rounds. Hopefully it's quick and painless without Brewster absording yet another monster beating that will threaten his career.

"I like Undeclared and own the complete series on DVD. But something about it holds me back from loving it like I love Freaks and Geeks. And I can't quite place my finger on it." I like both shows but "Undeclared" is more lightweight and slapstick than "Freaks and Geeks." While there both very funny, I find "Freaks and Geeks" to be more enjoyable overall.

"Full Collapse" is a solid album with some memorable bass playing throughout, though the album's formula get's patience testing by the second half. "Understanding in a Car Crash" is a really really good song that I don't think they ever came close to matching in quality. Meh to "Glassjaw," boring music and an annoying frontman that tries way too hard. If Faith No More had no creativity, talent, and took themselves way too seriously they would probably sound like this. That said "Ry Ry's Song" is not bad at all. I would personally take the first two Boy Sets Fire albums over either of them. They were like a stripped down punk version of Iron Maiden minus the irony at their best. "The lead singer and I think the bass player are in Head Automatica now" This is true.

The Walrus was Paul. Not to mention the guy admits to have stopped watching the show after Season 4. He is right about Tony not paying attention to the possible threats the viewer sees and focusing on his family; which goes back to my theory. "B) the guy is a tension-building red herring" Bingo. "You also conveniently forget the black guys that the camera focused on. " As well as the Trucker, the young couple....

That's not even Bobby's exact quote. "probably don't even hear it whenit happens." which was his way of justifying hunting and later killing that guy, which he learns to not always be true when he looks that guy in the face before finishing him. This is from people reading too much into stuff and screwing stuff around. Bobby obviously heard and saw it coming anyway when he was blasted away several times; call me crazy but I think his death and that quote was meant to be ironic. The flashback is because Tony finally had time to take in Bobby's death and he was holding the rifle he gave him for his birthday. The blackout is most likely not Tony's POV as the last image is us the viewer watching him look up and smile. And perhaps they reaired "Home Movies" because people kept fucking up the quote.
