Fla. Doctor Investigated in Badly Botched Abortion
The Metal Maniac replied to milliondollarchamp's topic in Current Events
That actually sorta makes sense. I don't tend to think of a person and a fetus as two different things, so it sorta slipped my mind that others do. -
Fla. Doctor Investigated in Badly Botched Abortion
The Metal Maniac replied to milliondollarchamp's topic in Current Events
A lot of people really buy into the 'life begins at first breath' idea. If the "doctor" had instantly slapped their hand over the child's mouth and pinched their nose, preventing them from ever taking a single breath, and waited until the child suffocated, would the child have never been alive then? Would that have been an acceptable form of abortion? I'm sorry, I'm not trying to be a total dick and I don't really want to get into a big huge debate over this, but I do have trouble seeing things from the pro-choice side, so maybe someone can help me out here? I mean, the way I see it is, the woman wanted her baby dead, the baby is dead. Does the "doctor" being late make that much of a difference, in your eyes? Why? Again, not trying to be a total dick, just trying to understand some viewpoints. -
Movie Tournament 2009 Round 1
The Metal Maniac replied to Twisted Intestine's topic in Television & Film
Salo under comedy and I Spit On Your Grave under War/Western are the weirdest. Not with Jurassic Park being in Epics/Historical! That's just flat-out absurd. I could also point out the fantasy films under sci-fi, since fantasy and sci-fi really are two different things, but most people just lump them together anyway so I'll leave it be. -
Is there any chance of getting some of the tie-in stuff for Final Crisis? Superman Beyond and Batman Last Rites I believe? Thanks for this thread. You do awesome work.

I had technical difficulties with my tv when Locke was talking to Richard. What did he tell him after telling him his birthdate? Just that Richard should find and test him?

What I meant to say is, if Desmond ended up in the past and died, then I don't see why anything he already did would be un-done. Because if Desmond went to the past NOW, and then died, then that doesn't change what he already did with his life. Like, if Desmond dies right now, it doesn't matter what time he's in, really, because he's the same Desmond that already was pressing the button, so that for sure happened. Get what I'm saying? Of course, if a younger version of Desmond died/changed his mind about something, then all the stuff he did could be fucked up. I suppose technically the same is true for everyone, but apparently only Desmond is capable of doing things differently.

Why wouldn't that stuff still happen? They wouldn't have ended up in the past until AFTER they did that stuff. Also, on the Losties becoming the Others - Doubt that, but would not be too shocked to discover that Jacob is Locke, travelling through time in a very fucked-up fashion.
-
I still wonder why they'd even take that chance, especially since they seem to be following the rest of the story damned close. Why stick right to the source then cop out on the ending? Doesn't make sense to me.

US Senator recommends steriod regulations
The Metal Maniac replied to geniusMoment's topic in The WWE Folder
So, Vince is either dumb or a liar. Apparently he knows of no WWE employee ever telling a prospective worker they need to gain weight? Has he not seen Beyond the Mat, where JR tells that rookie that he needs to work on his upper body, and get more muscular, before he can really get "in the hunt"? -

Question Scroby: If you're so attentitive that you saw the cop hiding up ahead, why didn't you just put the phone down for a minute and hopefully have avoided the ticket altogether? -
Wasn't there something mentioned in that episode about Hurley being at a gathering somewhere and the patio he was on collapsed? I kinda thought that maybe we'd find out that Libby's significant other was horribly injured/killed during that, and that she was out for revenge. I could be way off, but hey.

How damn long will it take E to ditch the hideous spinner belt?
The Metal Maniac replied to theone's topic in The WWE Folder
I don't understand why the WWE champ doesn't revert to a more traditional belt, and why Cena doesn't bring out a new custom belt for the Heavyweight championship. That'd make the most sense, I think, cuz then you still have a spinner belt to sell to the kids, but it's *Cena* who's holding it. I always thought it was stupid for anyone BUT Cena to be holding that belt. Like, it'd be like if Rock was carrying the Smoking Skull belt. Why? What's the point? Like, kayfabe-wise, why would anyone else want to hold that belt, save for maybe like a week or two just to rub it in Cena's face? That said, I always wanted to see Cena's title reign end via a beltshot with the spinner, and the belt be gimmicked in such a way that the spinner actually broke off, then the thing'd be gone. -
I've had that idea floating around in my head for a bit. I'm pretty much convinced that the island is Atlantis, and the ancient Atlanteans somehow were the first to truly unlock the power of the Island, causing it to move, and also destroying virtually everything on the island, save a few chunks of stuff (like the foot) and those weird underground places Ben went that had the hyrogliphics (which I know I spelled horribly) on the wall. And of course, because the Island wasn't where it used to be anymore, everyone just assumed that it must've sank.

The Things That Anger You Thread.
The Metal Maniac replied to Man Who Sold The World's topic in General Chat
I can't imagine trying to text while driving a car. Mind you, I'm so old-school I've never owned a cell or sent a text message, but doesn't that require you to like, look at your cell phone the whole time you're typing? We've got the no cell-phones while driving law out here in Nova Scotia too, but I gotta say, I can't really see them putting it in place out in Alberta. You guys don't even need safety inspections, do you? -
Stupid question. Do Rock Band instruments work with Guitar Hero games, and vice-versa? Or does it only go one way? Or not at all? My roomie is looking to pick one of them up for his PS3, but he doesn't know which one he wants because both games have some track lists he really likes. Just wondering if there's any cross-over, or if he's boned.

Awesome Wrestling Pictures

Just wanted to point out that in that pic of Andre, his height is given as about 6'10". -
I gotta say, I don't think the Three Wise Men were worried that Jesus already had myrh, because he had just been born. Poor kid didn't even have a cradle to sleep in yet. Furthermore, if I choose a book and he already has it, then he's gonna want the recipt so he can take the book back and get a new one. But with a gift card, there's nothing to take back, he just gets himself a book. That said, I generally do buy him books straight-up, but this year my sister went and wrapped all the books he was being given without taking note of what they were, so I had no idea what he was already being given, and I don't like giving repeats. So I went for the card, and actually explained that to him. I will note though, that even I hate gift cards in some instances. I mean, I got a gift card to McDonald's this year. Sure, I'm gonna use it, but...McDonalds? Yeeesh. When literally every single place on earth is offering gift cards, that cheeses me off, but when it comes to things like music/books, when it can be tricky to know exactly what someone likes/owns? Yeah, I'd rather let them select it.

That's gotta be some kinda joke I don't really get, right?
-
Are spoiler tags really necessary for things like that? I mean, anyone reading this far into the thread has either seen that already, or has already had a shitload of stuff spoiled. Like, the season ended months ago.
-
Sucks to you, gift cards are awesome. I mean, I see the laziness aspect, but at the same time, am I really supposed to keep track of everything my dad has read this year, and every book he's getting, just to insure I don't buy him a book he's already read? Gift card says "I know you like to read, but I don't know what you've read this year, so you can pick it yourself." Plus I don't like asking any one person for something expensive, so I just tell various people to get me certificates and pool them together. That way, I get what I want and no one goes broke. Plus, it's not like I can tell my parents I want the new Iced Earth CD and actually get it. I'd get some CD by some band that has a name that sounds like Iced Earth instead.

I hope the exact opposite. I never want to see that gimmick debut. I just watched 2 promos with Kizarny on youtube that aired on SMACKDOWN! This looks like a horrible gimmick with stupid talking. I don't even know what the gimmick is. So he's part of the carnival and hangs out with the sideshow freaks and speaks weird. Okay I got that, but how does that exactly build him to being a wrestler? Aren't you a ref? And you don't get this gimmick? He's not talking funny, he's talking carny. As in, how wrestlers used to talk when marks were around. Pretty bad that on a board filled with smarks, people still don't get this gimmick. Really makes me wonder why they bothered trying to run a gimmick about 5% of the audience would understand.

Small question: aren't privateers just pirates that were authorized by their government to attack other ships? How can they be privateers if there is no government? Or do you just not want to use the word pirate due to it's negative connotations?

Yeah, I can't wait for this. Does anyone know what's next for these movies? Like, I heard they're gonna do a Magneto flick, but are there plans to do any more movies in the X-Men universe, or are they waiting to see how these movies do first?

I don't get what you're trying to say there, Jobber. Are you seriously suggesting that, in this day and age, the Queen of England could just say "Canada is now a dictatorship", and we'd just be cool with that? Didn't Canada bring the Constitution home? Couldn't we just...change it? The Queen and her GG have been nothing more then figureheads for a hundred years, and I get a feeling the first time one of them tries to go against what the Canadian government is asking for, it'll be the last time we ask. Oh, and the GG is essentially chosen by the PM - that's right, the guy that we voted for. Yes, it's the Queen's call officially, but unofficially, she picks who the PM tells her to. Besides that, the fact of the matter is that Harper's conservatives cannot govern effectively. As a minority government, they can be defeated on EVERYTHING, and if they can't pass bills, they can't govern. Yes, minority governments have worked before, but obviously this current parliament is not about to co-operate. Thus, there are only 2 options: Another election, or a coalition government. I'm much more willing to let the coalition have a go at it then I am to go to the polls again, and I don't really see the GG using her power here as somehow stripping Canadians of democracy. I mean, the NDP and the Liberals were voted into their seats, weren't they? They have a right to be there, don't they? And if they decided to, they could just bring down the Conservative government and force Canada into another election by voting aganst them. But since NO ONE wants another election, why not just let them try their hand at introducing the bills for a while? I figure there'll be a real close eye kept on the parliament should they take over, and I can't imagine them doing anything stupid, because we're looking at a fucking slim majority (if that) and I can't imagine they'd piss it away. At least, I hope not.
