    Identify movies for my column

I've been doing decent the past couple weeks, but we've got some doozies this week. I haven't even tried to run down anything yet since I've been busy, so any help at all is appreciated and will be accredited to you in my column. "I saw a movie a few years back starring Luke Perry. I don't remember much from it except that Perry played a hitchhiker, and he got beaten up a few times during the movie. One of the subplots was about a door to door salesman who sold vaccum cleaners and killed his customers. It was kind of watchable in a strange way." "Another movie I also need help with is a movie about a secretary who was really like "Patrick Bateman crazy". She kept on killing her work mates and hade them in her basement stuffed up, and she kept on dressing them and talking to them. It was a very weird movie. She was played by an actor I have seen in many B-sitcoms, shes's small and blonde and have an annoying voice. So if you know wich movie I'm refering to I would be grateful." "I don't have so much details for this question but I give it a try. It's a movie I saw around 1985 as a child, its'a a fantasy movie where the hero (I think he has a beard) had a sidekick who has blue/greyish skin and he uses a bow and arrow as a weapon, he looked elfish. The movie is in a "Conan like" enviroment/time. I remember in the end they pour out gun powder from the evil guys base all the way out and light it. The "evil boss" had several wifes during the movie, he killed them one by one. I think he got his orders from a demon of som kind." "the story of the movie is there is a war where people can't go to school work etc. there is depression and a boys father sets up a basketball hoop and clears a court. then his wife manages to take her son to somewhere safer. he has to stay as he is going to be called up by the governement soon. the sad bit at the end of the film is when there is a siren for an air raid and he goes to play basketball at the court (sad as his son has left) and is killed." "I'm sort of the resident movie buff around here and can usually name any movie my friends describe to me, but I just got stumped. I had two of my friends describing some movie they saw as kids. Some of the details: -Kids movie from around the 80's. -Involved a mirror that transported kids to another world. -Something to do with a witch and a jar full of berries that could make you young again and/or cure illness. -The kids were trying to get the berries for their grandmother. I guessed Labrynth, but they said that wasn't it. Should I have them commited?" That last one I've seen, my sister used to have it on tape, but neither of us can remember what it was called. We know that it tied into some sort of toy line as the kid traveled with these dolls, they were like a cross between cabbage patch dolls and puffalumps. If we could just figure out what the toy was, I know I can track down the movie.

Ok, the kids movie was the Hugga Bunch and that was the toy line. Thanks everyone for the help and we've still got three more films to hash out up there.

No, not Garbage Pail Kids. I know them. These were like straight ripoffs of cabbage patch dolls, but soft and fluffy and pinkish like a puffalump. That could be a bit off, but that's how we remember them.

I'll give Fook and Pimpmasta Swank both credit. Thanks. And that last one is not Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. JUST FIGURE OUT WHAT THE FUCKING DOLLS WERE AND I CAN FIGURE IT OUT. That is driving me and my sister equally nuts right now. Now I know how my readers feel on these damn things.

    Official Star Trek thread

William Shatner talks about that in one of his books. He thought the federation guys would be trained in some form of martial arts/hand to hand combat like military personnel are today. He then caught some wrestling where a guy did a dropkick and he thought it was the coolest move ever, so thought Kirk should have a sweet dropkick and then that branched out into him knowing basic wrestling holds and manuevers.

    SLEDGEHAMMER!

I bought the set this past week. It's not as good as I remember it, but I've only been able to check out one episode so far. Of the blurbs I've read in the booklet that came with the set was amazed to find that the concept was equal parts Dirty Harry and Get Smart. Although I can really see the Get Smart influence on it now. David Rasche is a great underrated actor and I do give him mucho props in the role. Now the booklet also says that critics loved it, but that mainstream audiences didn't understand it and ABC mucked it by switching the time slot almost every week. Even though it did stay on Friday nights for most of its run.

    Official Star Trek thread

It was a salt sucking monster in "Man Trap." That was the first episode actually shown on air, even though it was like the fourth or fifth made. What does anyone think of the original pilot, The Cage, with Jeffrey Hunter as Captain Pike? Has anyone read any of the books? I read a few when I was a kid. The one I remember was a sequel to the one where the scientist makes a robot clone of Kirk. In the novel a second clone survived, revives the first one and they make an army of Kirk clones to kick ass. I remember reading a blurb for one I always wanted to read but never found anywhere. McCoy is acting like a bitch about how he doesn't get any respect, so Kirk leaves him in charge of the bridge, because he's technically the highest ranking officer after him and Spock, when they go on an away mission. They wind up missing and I think some Klingon cruisers show up and McCoy has to pilot the ship into battle. That's sounded cool as hell.

    Like Justice League?

I've caught a few episodes of JLA here and there, but it sounds like I'm booking the show and will defintely have to watch it now. Green Arrow, The Question, Zantanna, Wildcat and Dr. Fate are my favorites. I wouldn't mind a JSA spinoff.

    Surreal Life - Season 3

She was in Cobra, Beverly Hills Cop 2, Red Sonja, was an internationally known super model and was married to Stallone. She's done stuff, not just lately.

    Surreal Life - Season 3

For season three they should have an episode where they bring on people the cast members used to fuck. Coulier with Alanis Morrisette. Brigette Nielsen with Sly Stallone. Charro with the '74 Raiders. Jordan with Color Me Bad.

    Wings and Coach

What the hell are you talking about with Wings. They were shown on the plane all the fucking time. I remember entire episode that took place almost entirely on the plane. Like there was a Christmas show where Joe was flying people places and they got stuck in bad weather and an episode where they flew that annoying old guy to find his brother. Thing is, that's a small plane. You can't do a lot on that plane. Think about it, Frasier is a radio talk show host, but how many episodes take place mostly at the station he works at? Coach was a different matter. They didn't have the production values to stage football games. I remember them using doctored stock footage and I've seen Hayden trolling the sidelines.

    Surreal Life - Season 3

Like Dolly Parton and Cher, Charro is a robot. And Dave Coulier must say "cut...it...out" at every given opportunity complete with hand gestures.

    It's coming.

I love that voice Thoth does for me. I sound like the Black Scorpion with chest congestion. The closing line on Josh Stark had me rolling. Good job on the return show.

    Greatest Movie Tournament

This is a pretty retarded final. I like the Pacino parts of II better than one, but hate the DeNiro parts. These recent tournaments have made me realize that I fucking hate Robert DeNiro. I'll go with the original. The Godfather

Best Actor of All Time Tournament

Very interesting matchup. I think Brando is getting a lot of juice from his recent passing. However, I've always thought DeNiro was overrated. He's got like four or five quirks that he spreads around to all his characters and he's been very unmotivated the past decade. Even when Brando didn't give a shit and wasn't feeling it, he'd make it interesting. Marlon Brando

    SWF - THE MOVIE!

If we're talking muppets for Janus it has to be Sweetums. We all know Frost is Ivan Drago, so get a time machine to get buff, young Dolph Lundgren.

    SWF Fantasy Football 2K5

I'm in. I will kick ass. I will have a running back this year. The live draft worked really well last year. It went a lot faster than when we do it in chat and also you can set your draft lists if you're not going to be around and yahoo automatically drafts for you. That prevents you from getting screwed or having someone else draft for you.

    Isabel Sanford Dead At 86

I heard this on the radio right after lunch. She lived a long, interesting life and thanks to Weezie, her legacy will live on for ages. She also played the maid in Guess Who's Coming to Dinner.
