It continues to confuse me that Microsoft recommends the use of 802.11a, when there are basically no consumer wireless products that use 802.11a anymore. A's big advantage is that it runs on the 5.8 GHz band, versus B and G running on the more congested 2.4 GHz band. Now, I don't know if the error message is given to you because it detects interference, or because it ALWAYS gives that message when a non-A communications protocol is selected, but it doesn't matter, there's nothing you can do about it. For the second one... hmm. Using an alternate MAC address probably isn't going to fix it. Can you remind me what the first two tests are again? Also, what is the make and model of your wireless router? If it's a Netgear, try disabling the SPI Firewall. Some general tips: If your router's channel is set to 6, change it to 1 or 11, this can reduce interference and increase speed. More importantly, it will reduce or eliminate dropped connections. Set up a static IP address on the Xbox 360, and use your router to put that IP address in the DMZ. If it's a Netgear, in addition to disabling the SPI Firewall, just get another router. Netgear, in my experience, has a lot of issues with gaming over a wireless connection.

I have a lot of games to play these days. Gears of War PC just got patched again, so a lot of people who had errors before should be fine. Can't wait to play with them. I do enjoy my Snap, though.
-
Yeah, that info comes straight from the developers. Amazingly enough, the 360, by itself, supports more formats than its own Media Center Extender Functionality.
-
Assuming you have XP Media Center or Vista Home Premium or Vista Ultimate here. Also assuming the video can play on your PC fine. Is the video in the right format? Media Center on 360 does not support DivX or Xvid. Beyond that, I have no idea.

Alright. There seems to be some confusion online as to whether you can send games between certain countries. The EU is certainly in question. But for the time being, I'm going to need your countries of residence. I'll update the main list accordingly.

I disagree, with the exception of the DS version. Capcom USA owns Street Fighter, and they basically let David Sirlin do all the Street Fighter stuff lately. It will essentially be the same game with graphical tweaks, if they have any say at all.

I have some bad news: Gift-giving isn't just region-locked, it's COUTNRY-locked. A US gamer, apparently, can't gift a game to a Canada player. If we still want to do this, we'll have to split the pools up by country.

Other than my basic guidelines of "Don't flake out", I don't care what you guys do. I sent UTBroward a birthday present to try out the service. If you can't figure out how to use it, you are braindead.
-
You can choose to decline gifts! Did not know that.
-
Well then, let's say you need to sign up by the 16th. After that, you have until the 31st to send your gift.

I'd like to do this starting next Monday. Ideally, actually doing this shouldn't take more than a day, though, so we could do it on Christmas Eve. However, people might be travelling, so I'd like to set a window for between the 17th and the 23rd. Therefore, I'd like to get everyone signed up by the 16th, so I can draw names out of hats. Other ideas: If someone flakes out, can something be done to them? I.E. Can an admin screw with their account to change their avatar or sig? Is that even necessary?

The latest EGM says that the producer does not want to limit himself to platforms. Thus, there's a chance we'll see this on Wii, PS2, and DS. Maybe PSP, but PS2 and DS are specifically mentioned.

I hope the lack of a thread for this is not indicative of apathy for PC gaming. I've been playing WoW, Gears of War, and Orange Box on the PC. Of those, only WoW is PC exclusive. Crysis is amazing as well, though I just have the demo. But is it really the case that the PC is only getting console ports? And when the game comes out at the same time as the 360 version, do you get the PC version or the 360 version? I generally prefer the PC versions of games, because I built my machine about 6 months ago.

I'm shocked no one has mentioned Steve Blackman yet. "It's party time!"
-
You can't. If you try to gift a game to someone, and they already own that game, you get an error.
-
In the Shop Channel, now, when you select a game, you have the option to buy it for yourself, or for someone else. That's all. So, to answer your questions: You buy games on the shop channel to give away. The second question is moot, since if you gift a game you already own, you still have to pay for it. So it's not removed from your list.
-
The gift-giving feature is now available for Virtual Console. By sheer coincidence, today is UTBroward's birthday... Now would be a good time to visit the Wii Numbers thread, if there's anyone on your list.

Yeah, in truth, WASD vs Analog is nowhere near as big of a deal as mouse vs analog.
-
Looks easier than I thought. I have a spare wired pad, I think I might give this a try some day.
-
Agreed, but how did you mod it? Is it easy for a tinkering noob?
-
You're right, in single player, enemies wouldn't take advantage of it. Hardware manufacturers (Microsoft, Nintendo) mandate that a keyboard cannot be used. The PS3 version of UT3 will support WASD.
-
Well, there was Capcom Fighting Evolution, but I dunno if you can call that major.
-
You're overlooking one problem with analog moving. In the period that you move the stick from one position to another, let's say top left to bottom right, your character is still moving forward and to the left until you cross the threshhold which is the neutral point. There is a moment where your movement will slow.
-
On the contrary, if you're moving forward and left, it's faster to switch direction on a keyboard than an analog stick, thanks to the travel time of the devices. Not to mention that the feeling of floaty momentum is reduced or eliminated on a keyboard. You say it yourself, that reaction time is faster. This is because the keyboard is a digital solution, compared to an analog solution like a joystick. Ask yourself: How long does it take for you to move a joystick from one direction to another, versus depressing some keys and pressing others?

Redoctane told Nintencast that downloadable songs for the Wii are hopefully, going to arrive starting the beginning of the new year.
