Would you recommend TVersity? Sounds like it encodes on the fly.

    Xbox 360

I picked up the bundle yesterday at Target. Made me happy. As a new 360 owner, I have a question about the streaming media. What video codecs can I actually play? It seems like I have more options when I use the Media Center Extender functionality, as opposed to just streaming video using Windows Media Player's sharing option. It looks like AVI's (divx) are out. Can I only do .WMV? Edit: Got answers to my question. Only .wmv, .mp4, .m4v, .mov, amd mpeg2 through media center extender. DivX is NOT supported.

How far you get on Breakdown? I got up to the point where you get the abiilty to shoot the projectile from your arms...and there's an area shortly after that where enemies WILL gang up on you and you WILL have to deal with about 3 of them blasting their own energy projectiles at you, with no real way to snipe 'em or otherwise take them out without eating tons of damage. I actually enjoyed a lot of it at first (liked a lot of the platforming touches, the ability to actually see your own limbs with it, the cool evasive maneuvers like backflip, etc)....but you can't effectively aim your weapon because it's so dependent on lock-on. BTW, for a lot of folks, like me, who are clueless about if their game is pc quality, or what upgrades they need, I found this site: http://www.yougamers.com/games/. Check the "game-o-meter" for a particular game to see if your PC can run it. For curiosity's sake, I ran the Orange Box test to see, in case Half Life Ep. 3 doesn't get a 360 release, if my PC could run it, as I expect the system requirements to be about identical. I'd need a new video card although my processor, os, and memory are fine. I also ran the Crysis one. They may as well have played a little digitized laugh at me after I finished running it, though. Somehow, my computer ranked slightly above the nice little (2) circle. So nice.

Are you guys playing the import version? Or is the US version out before street date and I'm not owning it?

Yeah, the requirements haven't changed. Just more bells and whistles for high-end machines.

    Street Fighter IV announced...

Nope, I've just played DoA4 and T5, and they both get laggy unless you play someone within a couple hundred miles of you. What's GGPO? GGPO is a program from the Shoryuken community that lets you play SFA2 and MVC1 over the net. Its claim to fame is an entirely new networking algorithm designed for fighting games, which results in games, which I can personally attest to, that feel smooth. Capcom, via one David Sirlin, let it slip that the reason that they are allowing this flagrant violation of their copyright is that they plan to either use the GGPO netcode, or a copy of it, in Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo HD remix, and potentially all of their fighting games from this point forward.

To all complaining about lag: Have you used ggpo yet?

It's not that he doesn't have an HDTV, that's not the issue. He just doesn't have connectors, period. It may look good on SD, but with an RF cable, I just have my doubts.

The adapter exists, I have seen it in stores. If not, you can buy an RF converter. I seriously would consider, if you have the money, buying a new TV.

As far as the other Street Fighter game coming out, Super Turbo HD remix, file this in the "I was right" column: I said this in a post in the Wii numbers thread, on the fifth page. Couple things: Hyper Fighting online is complete bullshit. Super Turbo looks better, thanks to the efforts of the ggpo project. Fun little thing to play with, of course, though it's real purpose is to give Capcom better netcode. http://ggpo.net Today, this came out from sirlin.net: Capcom is also committed to delivering the best online experience possible. I'm sure a lot of you have experienced the lag-free gameplay over at ggpo.net, which is definitely the best fighting game networking technology in the world. It's battle-tested and proven at this point, delivering a staggeringly low 1-frame of input delay, even across oceans. You'd think we'd be using that, right? Or should we try an untested solution that will, in theory, be as good? I'll let you draw your own conclusions there. Make sure to give your opinions over at capcom's blog. Freakin' called it. Why else would something that blatantly defies Capcom's copyrights be allowed to exist, with their full knowledge of the program's existence?

I have found in my own experience that sticky bombs can take out turrets quite well. If the turrets are too far away, a sniper can take care of the engineer, and then take potshots at the gun along with a soldier firing rockets. The final point in all CP maps have a small cap time. I dunno how I feel about that, I guess neutral. Scouts did more damage than a pyro in beta. Pyros got buffed as a result of this, but scouts still do the same amount of damage. I find it really hard to hit them, honestly? I think scouts need a rework. I was gonna say "16 players max? What server are you playing on?!" then I realized you probably have the 360 version. I've heard tons about lag in the 360 version of TF2, and I think that's just crappy. Team Fortress 2 does work a lot better as a 24 player game, though I wish they'd bring back 32 player games. However, the PC version doesn't lag, as long as you're on a server with less than 100 latency or so. Agree with you on the medic's ability to deal damage, but I feel like you're still playing the game. Just instead of dropping enemies' lifebars, you're increasing your teammates'. Like playing a priest in World of Warcraft.

Thought: I would use the Wii message board more if I could send a message to more than one person.

    Super Smash Bros. Brawl

Bite your tongue. I already had THAT heartbreak with the GBA "Mega Man Anniversary Collection" Funny thing about that game, there was a Capcom VP on Capcom's community boards puttering around. Someone asked him about this game (it was originally a GBA game, then went to the DS), and he came back with the reply that "We know nothing about this game, as far as I know, it never existed."

Just curious, do you have an ATI or nVidia card? Apparently Lost Planet just wants to barf all over itelf when it sees an ATI card. Known issues include setting any AA setting borks the game.

They have redone the wriststrap twice since the Wii's launch. They also have remote condoms available for free for existing Wii owners, and condoms will be packaged with Wii remotes from now on.

Portal is a mindfuck due to the atmosphere more than anything else. The Portal system is neat, but after a while, you stop being amazed by it, and start to figure out how to use it. That said, I shot one end of a portal above a turret, and the other end at a wall. I'm looking at the wall, and I see a top down view of the turret, but I'm looking straight ahead. As I aim a box at the turret to knock it over, I think, "You know, on one hand this makes perfect sense. On the other, this is totally cool as hell." Portal does have some semblance of a plot. I estimate I'm about a half hour or so from beating the story part of the game, but I definitely want to play more. Looking forward to the challenge levels. As far as Team Fortress 2 goes, I've never found it easier to start learning a multiplayer game (About the same learning curve as Halo, in my opinion). Really enjoyable, and I feel like I can be effective with any class (except maybe the scout, but I'm still learning him. I thought I wouldn't figure out the spy, but I did to some extent. Nothing more fun than four backstabs in a row because the attackers are too stupid to look behind them as they're shelling a control point to notice they are being killed. Or maybe they aren't paying attention to the repeated backstab notifications in the upper right. Good times.)

    Wii

I didn't think Red Steel was complete garbage, just mediocre. The fact that I had to replay to get the good ending killed the game for me. That said, it has no business being a million seller.

    Wii

I hope that there will be Wii Demos through this. I interpreted it to mean that there would be Wii Demos, but who knows? EDIT: Apparently, Kotaku knows, as it's just DS demos. Ah well. Also, firmware 3.1 is out. All this does is add keyboard support to the Everybody Votes Channel, and the Internet Channel. Also, you can now get hyperlinks in Wii Messages, and clicking them takes you right to the Internet Channel. You'll need to re-download the Everybody Votes channel as well. This is because the News and Weather channel are built into the Wii, and get updated with firmware updates, but the Votes channel does not, and needs to be updated. EDIT: For the same reasons, the Internet channel will need to be updated. EDIT EDIT: The update the Internet Channel now supports Opera Widgets. Whatever those do.

I'm more excited about the online co-op feature. I'm not excited about the Japan delay, which could result in a US delay.
