I tried connecting a friend's party, and got "Network Error: Could not connect to Party". This happened every time I tried to connect to them. Gonna write it off as a one time thing.

In Career, it seems like the difficulty on Normal is about the same as Hard. This isn't the same with RtwM. However, where I was getting 4 and 5 stars on Normal, I get 3 and 4 stars on Hard. Does this jive with everyone's experience?

Maybe not for the load times, but the fact that the disc drive stops spinning is a moderate deal to me. I don't imagine that being a selling point, though. But god, it's so quiet. Anyway, other (small) things I have noticed: If you previously downloaded the optional media update for iPod/DivX compatibility, get ready to redownload it. Not a big deal, really. Netflix is a 3 MB download when you first run it. Also, they really do get added to your Instant Queue that fast (10-45 seconds). Your old themes will suck. New themes kind of suck too. Maybe I will enjoy avatars more when I play with my friends, but for now, kinda stupid. Not enough clothing options. I have no interest in the Community Games available, to be honest. WTF was that Welcome Video?! Seriously?! The way the achievements you've earned in all games is laid out in your My Xbox is superb. If the DVD isn't widescreen, it won't output in 16:9, but it can still output in HD. Put in any anime DVD if you want evidence of this. As long as the 360 is hooked up with VGA or HDMI, that DVD is going to upscale. Son of a bitch. I got my wires crossed a bit, I guess (pun obviously intended). My thinking was that if HD, is by definition 16:9, then an upscaled 4:3 DVD would be as well. My understanding is that it really is, super technically, outputting a widescreen signal. With black bars on the left and right sides to make it a 4:3 signal.

Thoughts on the whole NXE shebang so far. Avatars are dumb as all hell. I think you'll agree with me. The new Interface does some getting used to, but eventually, you see where everything's moved around to. The way Game Profile pages are set up with information on each screen is a really good idea and awesome. I have access to Community Games now. Haven't downloaded any trials. Setting up Netflix was easy and works exactly as advertised... but there really are slim pickings in the Instant Watch category. Got plenty of anime, I guess. I also tried out Netflix in HD, and was pleased with the quality (Pan's Labryinth) Installed Gears of War 2 to the hard drive. Maybe it's faster? I can't tell. Oh well, I have the 120 GB drive, might as well... but I won't shed a tear if I have to delete installs to make space. The Party system looks nice... if I had anyone on my friends list who could do it. Two more days. Little feature I actually like: You have a new system setting option. When you put a disc in the drive, you know how the game automatically loads? You can turn that off now. You can launch an arcade game, or a game on disc, while in another game by using the guide. But there is something else... I feel like I've been lied to. Yes, the guide has improved, there's blades, blah blah blah. We've been told you can do anything from the blades, even within a game. So I go to the Marketplace Blade, see what content I can download. I select an option. "Doing this will sign you out of your game, and take you to the main menu. Do you wish to proceed?" WHAT THE FUCK. I want to buy content while I'm playing my game; fuck you. (Before I continue, this doesn't affect games that can display the Marketplace UI to download their content, like Guitar Hero 3, or other things. But if I want to download a Pinball FX table and I'm playing Katamari or some shit, I want to download that fucking table, fuck you. Edit: Forgot a feature. If you boot up a game that your friends are currently playing, you will see a notification that you have friends playing. To be honest, once we all have the NXE tomorrow, the biggest feature, IMO, will be parties.

Left 4 Dead is out today on PC, and tomorrow on 360 (I say tomorrow because games that ship on a Tuesday are in stores Wednesday. If I am wrong, go get your copy NOW, because oh GOD so awesome).

Handbrake is the name of the program, and it does EXACTLY what you are looking for. It is freaking awesome, and allows you to make a vid file out of any combination of audio tracks and subtitle tracks (great for ripping anime). Google it, I guess.

If you want to convert from DVD's directly to video files, there's a great program I use, that can convert to a variety of optimized formats... problem is, I haven't used it in a while, and I have forgotten what it's called. Hopefully I remember when I get home from work tonight to check and tell you what I use.
