The Arcade Fire show last night in D.C. was as good as I had hoped, better in fact. For people on the fence about them, they're worth seeing if they're nearby. When the Napoleon Dynamite-lookin' guy strapped on his motorcycle helmet and started climbing the lighting rig to beat on some parkands with drumsticks, I knew we were in for a pretty good show. The band also has some incredibly cute, slightly retarded looking women in it, which is always a plus.

That's a really great typo/slip.

It's "can always escape you," actually. I'll forgive the indiscretion.

Nah, not really. He just has all the music I wish I'd try out but never really do. Can and Kraftwerk in the two or three posts here made me think of that.

Every couple of days I get the impression that, out of all of us, ArkhamGlobe has the CD collection with the lowest amount of questionable chaff.

Remember all that talk about torture & rape rooms?
Edwin MacPhisto replied to Jobber of the Week's topic in Current Events
wtf and such. Obviously nothing is proven until it's proven, but like you said, this needs to be investigated. If it's just a semantics issue over the word "proof," fine, but those dismissing this entirely are being really naive. -

I have a slight hunch that this is the first item from McSweeney's that UseTheSledge has ever read. -
This is one of the ways I decide if a person is worth knowing or not. Therefore, it's great.

I actually wanted to see how old he was so I could decide what to recommend in his "I like books" thread. And to see if it would be legal when I raped him. -

Yep. I clicked Vitamin X's profile for some reason today, and he has "Tsunami" in his IM name. Heartless! -
Pornography is pretty dire. Not in a bad way, but it's Joy Division-gloomy and maybe not the best starting point if the glossy "Pictures of You" and pretty much happy-smiley-9000 "Friday I'm In Love" are your reference points. I'd recommend the early singles collection Staring at the Sea to bypass some of the misteps of their earlier albums, and second Distintegration and The Head on the Door.

I'm not even going compare them to anything, because they're so good, they're incomparable.

This remains a better picture:

I'm not actually serious, by the way, and will continue to do that anyway.

godthedog and I should be Get Your Learn On mods; whenever someone posts a topic related to math or science, we'll scorn his philistinic ways with big words and will slyly denigrate the quality of his moral character.

Your "band to watch in 2005"
Edwin MacPhisto replied to rising up out of the back seat-nuh's topic in Music
Prince puts out at least one album just about every year. I think he's missed maybe 3 or 4 in the entire 27 years he's been recording stuff. This was just the first decent poppy one he's done in some time, and the first in a while to have a huge tour supporting it.
