Iggy's college football rankings for 11/14/04
Edwin MacPhisto replied to iggymcfly's topic in Sports
Is whooping Tennessee's ass by 24 in Neyland Stadium suddenly not a damn impressive road win? The teams are incredibly close, but Auburn hasn't let anyone get close since they defeated LSU. When I watch them play, I see the most complete and dominating team in college football. Something's going to have to give, and with Auburn and OU tied in the AP Poll this week and OU only up by 2 points in ESPN/Coaches/USA Today, it's going to be OU if Auburn wins out. Wins over Alabama and the SEC championship game will increase Auburn's prestige; wins over Baylor and some scrub in the Big XII north won't. Sorry. Maybe it should be OU and Auburn, not Auburn/USC, but I don't think the Sooners have a chance at the Orange Bowl unless one of those two loses. Onto Iggy's rankings: I thought they were ridiculous at the beginning of the season, but they're pretty decent now that we actually know what these teams can do. -
Maybe biased. Or because, y'know, Auburn just fucking wailed on Georgia. When you look at the AP poll today, you might have an aneurysm. Good luck.

Donkey punch. Superb.

Pfft. I bet she wasn't even pregnant.

Sad and a half. I listened to "Shimmy Shimmy Ya" and I may drink some malt liquor.

If anyone's watching the Bama/LSU game, LSU just got away with the worst call I've ever seen. Cornerback Webster straight shoved a Bama receiver over in the end-zone a move that should have sent flags flying instantly, but the refs didn't call it and he returned an interception 60 yards. Huge play, and probably the worst blown call I've ever seen.

Stinging, man. The game was great, and we were *so* close. The whole field goal at the end was weird - everyone in the stadium didn't get that the Canes had called a time-out at the end. And then Berlin just hooked up with Parish for the win out of nowhere. Sigh. Ultimately, it was just the problem of a team still developing: great teams don't miss a tackle on the 9 that turns into a 50-yard punt return, and great teams don't give up that morale-crushing play to end it. One of the best games the Cavs played this year, but in the end, half-a-step too short. What's more depressing is that there's an incredibly good chance that we could finish 9-2 this season and still end up in the freaking Tangerine Bowl against Iowa State or some other Big 12 North reject. Yuck. I'm still happy with Peach Bowl against South Carolina, UF, or Bama, but both Virginia and Miami will probably need to beat VT for that to happen. Wisconsin getting beat by Michigan State isn't a huge surprise, but the 49-14 score sure is. Crikey.

What psychology have you been looking at? Psychology is probably the most reviewed discipline in current science; its experiments and data gathering methods are deeply documented and easily replicated. Every major American university with a sizable psychology department (read: most of them) devotes a significant chunk of its undergrad research hours to replicating and evaluating prominent or controversial studies.

However, I do doubt that they can actually prove that there is any of that sort of thing with many "Addictions". -=Mike That doubt is rather silly. Any modest amount of time spent in a University psychology department and with a bit of research will in fact show you that it's exactly the case. Psychiatry's merits--certainly the prescription aspects--are still up for debate. Psychology, however, is quite different. The study of the mind and its relation to physiological condition is pretty well substantiated at this point. You can call it bullshit if it's that important to you, but don't conflate the guy who gives you a fat wad of Paxil with the people who are still figuring out how the human mind works.

Jobber's preferences don't aim to restrict or deny the civil rights of others. SP's do. At the point at which your preferences start to impede basic rights, they become invalid--or should--as a means of determining civil policy.

Why jump on someone for this? He's new and probably hasn't read everything here, and this isn't conspiracy theory stuff. Poem was lame, big deal. Joke that, sure, but let the rest go. You guys are mean.

Yeah, I've been published a few times as well, but I brought up Ice Cube rather than flout credentials. Respect your elders, man. Compton, Long Beach, Englewood.

He was dead in the water after Iowa, and in Iowa about 100,000 people got angry because he and Dick Gephardt were just slap-fighting each other for the last two weeks. The important thing here is that he's not the actual candidate and doesn't have to run against anyone. He just has to put things in motion, and without another "yarrrr" (or mayb with a few more), I see no reason to believe that he wouldn't do a fine job of it.

Loss for poet-laureate. Use more Ice Cube lyrics.

Dean would be wonderful for this. As we've all said, McAuliffe has become irrelevant. When Dean's not talking conspiracy theory - which he laid off during the campaign - he's a great asset. He'll be able to connect with the liberal base and, perhaps more importantly, generate a structure that will allow the party and the rest of the Democratic base to connect. Guy organizes like a mothafucka. I imagine he'd actually push the party in a direction more interesting than "on life support," one way or another. I'm all for it.

Let's see another poem. This one ruled.

The end of the Mark/King match is exactly what I would have wanted out of it. I challenge anyone who's been following them since the start, or close to the start, to read it and not get a little misty. Wonderful, guys.

That's not actually true. If Auburn wins out, they will have a very good chance at leaping OU, especially in the computers. Go back to your thread before this one goes to hell.

Neither of them deserve to be in sniffing distance of a BCS game, and I think that's pretty clear. Boise's good but they'd probably be fortunate to be a 7-4 team in almost any of the BCS conferences. I'll take them in a one-off with a mid-level major conference team, but not week after week after week.

I think it's a move that'll pay off in the medium term. To deem it the "dumbest move in Big XII history" shows a lack of foresight. Sure, unloading Solich after a 9-3 year may not have been great, but with Solich, this was going to be the same old Nebraska team: wishbone. I-formation. Option. All running. If you throw 8 times a game, it's stunning. They've gotten spanked a lot this year, and comparing this to any one of Solich's seasons makes it look like a bad hire. But with a few more years of recruiting and learning the systems, they'll be much better equipped to make runs at Big XII titles and championship runs. I think the days of getting to a national championship with the old Husker model are over, at least for now.

"Bridging the Gap"? It's cute, and I like the Dad Hook, but the quality of his verses reminds me much more of "I Can" than of "The World Is Yours." Which is not good. Meanwhile, I'm listening to one of the leaked tracks off the new U2 album, "Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own." I really didn't think they had this good a song in them anymore, but this is probably the best thing they've recorded since Pop and the best traditional-style U2 song since Achtung Baby. Fantastic.

I think he'll be fine. What with still having his senate seat and all. I'm not sure what Edwards was thinking giving his up.

Kudos to Spiff, who would've beaten anyone but Chris this week.
