Countdown to Genesis and HOLT Report

Haha, this was awesome. Frost and TNT would be a genius commentary team if you ever get tired of Comet and Riley. Nice work, Mistah Dub Cee. -
A Perfect Circle covering John Lennon's Imagine

These aren't mutually exclusive. The best cover versions do both. -
Tyler, I take it you didn't follow our college football chatter last year. This is nothin' new. My ACC thoughts for the weekend: Clemson is officially in total meltdown territory. Whitehurst turns the ball over five times, and the Tigers put up 7 points on offense for the whole game. The kick returns (same gent ran two back for touchdowns) were obviously great, but the Tigers are dying. 1-3 now, and their next game? At Virginia. #8 and #12 back to back isn't exactly the way to get your season back on track. FSU looked the best it has so far this season, with Chris Rix on the sideline. Funny how that works. As for the other top ACC contender: Miami's offense looked anemic against Houston, except of course for Tyrone Moss. But it didn't matter - between a good rushing day and defensive touchdowns out the ass, the Canes rolled. Next week they're at Georgia Tech, so who knows what happens in Atlanta. I was at the UVA/Syracuse game, and it was a good win for the Cavs. Marques Hagans was astonishing - 11 of 12 for 202 yards and a TD, and another 88 yards rushing for two scores. At first I thought that Virginia wasn't playing very impressively - neither lines looked very strong, and it seemed the d-line especially wasn't giving any pressure. Still, they held them to 10 points, 240 yards, and no big plays - that was the big thing. We've got our asses handed to us in the past on 70 yard passes, 50 yard runs, and I don't think the Orange managed anything bigger than 15 yards. Hagans finally made some big passes, connecting for over 50 yards twice, and the running game continues to push ahead. Good win against a better team than the first week cupcakes, but I'm still hesitant until we go to Tallahassee. A missed field goal and NC State guts it out over Virginia Tech. Suckas. Jay Davis still isn't much at all at quarterback, but only 1 turnover and 10 sacks makes a big difference between this week and last. Wake Forest pulls off the upset against Boston College, and suddenly the Demon Deacons are off to a surprising 3-1 start. Of course, NC State, VT, and FSU in the next 3 weeks probably won't help. The wrap-up: Maryland murders Duke, unsurprisingly, and North Carolina gets waxed by Louisville, making Georgia Tech like even bigger scrubs for letting the Tar Heels kill them by three touchdowns.

Hahahahaha. I am retardedly invincible.

Did anyone see the insane hit on Penn State's QB? He had to be taken off the field in the ambulance. I saw it in a restaurant tonight with the sound off, and the entire Wisconsin crowd looked absolutely horrified.

The Arcade Fire, Funeral. As good as the hype? Maybe. I'm certainly liking it a lot the first time around.

Full-time student. I'm a senior writer doing intermittent work for a lifestyle magazine back home, and I'm doing research and cataloging in my university's special collections library to make some bank between assignments. C.R.E.A.M. and so forth.

Kerry talks about the possibility of a draft

"Likely to return"? What a ridiculous headline. This isn't news. -
God, we were all so wrong in our harsh mockeries.

Hey, Tom's retirement promo is probably the coolest one I've ever read. You guys probably knew that already though.

Pffft. This is just so he can go for the Cardozo MMA Title. When you're gouging the poor and making $900,000 a year by drinking their blood, I'll be proud to say I knew you.

I'm glad you read the whole speech from New York and obviously got the whole point of his nuanced thoughts on the world and Iraq. If "flip-flopping" is really your #1 determinant of presidential potential, please don't vote. For anyone.

Consider this my public apology to Landon and Mark. I was sick and dismal and firing on empty all this last week and weekend, and I didn't get to contribute much more than maybe 1200 words to the big tag match. Yet they came through, and did it well. Thanks for letting the old dog come back for one last little sputter, guys. As Z joked, if I make another last-comeback-ever, the over/under on my participation is gonna be at 6 words. Congrats to all the winners! This fed is old, dude.

Good job I'm not a teenager then. I don't think that's really the argument you want to use.

I loathe idiocy. But then again, it's because of people like you that radio and the Billboard charts suck such a dick these days. "Lean Back" won't exist in three weeks. The Doors have perservered for over 35 years. I think we've had this discussion several times before, and the argument that usually pops up is "The Velvet Underground did everything the Doors were doing better." And I agree with that. The Doors are okay but will never be in my pantheon. "Lean Back" is pretty weak, though.

I'm going for it when I'm home for Thanksgiving. ONLY 90 MILES TO MY DREAMS

OAO Genesis Word Count Thread

I wrote the surprise Aaron Carpenter vs. Bryan Levy match. It turned out shorter than I expected: haha i like poetry -
I can't believe you're already splitting hairs over whether OU or Miami is really number 2 in Iggy's rankings. Oh wait, of course I can. We're three weeks into the season - can we wait until everyone's played a few more games before we start with the OU madness? Especially considering that Miami's beaten a very good Florida State squad - they did it ugly, and I'll call them on that, but they did it. When OU dispatches Texas with the same ease they usually do, then maybe we can have a reasonable comparison.

Ha ha ha, you can't stop me even when I make awful, awful picks. All those hand jobs are finally paying off.

I, of course, agree with that idea. I've been to both shit-kickings against UNC and Akron, and the Cavaliers are really getting it going. The o-line/running game are fantastic, and they've been successfully cycling between 4 different rushers, all of whom are pretty good. The front seven is suffocating now that the young guys have a year or two of experience. The secondary is still a bit of a question, never quite breaking but bending a lot in some scenarios. An ACC championship is definitely within reach, especially considering how much parity we've already seen in the mid-levels of the conference (Clemson beats Wake, GT beats Clemson, UNC beats GT, etc.). What I *really* think will happen, though, is a 9-2 year and probably a Gator Bowl game. FSU in Tallahassee may be too much to ask if Rix has a good game, simply because the UVa cornerbacks aren't tested and a really good QB could rip them apart. I do actually think that we'll beat Miami, because in four years of watching them, the Cavs play so, so much better at home than they do on the road. I know that's true for everyone, but it's a big disparity with them. But there's always some should-be-a-gimme game that we drop, and this year I think it'll probably be against Georgia Tech in Atlanta. They're the most inconsistent team in the ACC, again, but we somehow always fuck up against them.
-
More fun weirdness: as seems to be standard procedure for the past few years, Georgia Tech is the most wildly inconsistent team in the ACC. They pull off a last-minute stunner and then get their asses trounced by UNC. All I can say is that with Clemson, GT, and FSU all looking at one ACC loss already, it's nice to be a Virginia fan.

Yeah. On the east coast, the most I got of the Big XII was TCU/Texas Tech on our Fox Sports affiliate. I did catch the end of Auburn/LSU, though. Freakin' great.
