I got pwnz0r3d, but I'm actually very happy that Auburn won. I gotta root for anyone with running backs who go by Cadillac and Escalade.

"Uber-dweeb" is pretty heavy stuff. -
Yeah. I've never bought a damn thing on iTunes and I have 4,000 songs on my iPod.

Last I checked the exchange rate was not so good for the dollar - between $1.89 and $1.99 per pound. 79p is probably in the range of $1.50 these days.

GENESIS V CARD - SEPTEMBER 19th

So when G3 happened, we called it our best show ever. When G4 happened, that became the best show ever. High expectations for sure. Good luck, everyone. I can't wait to read this. -
As long as you have firewire access, you can load any mp3 onto an iPod. iTunes is easily the best program for it, but you can use MusicMatch or any number of third-party softwares. I've had my iPod for almost 2 years now, and it's one of my favorite things. Absolutely wonderful for any music fan.

New Dizzee Rascal! Tis a good day.

It was certainly lame, but I'm not sure worth an anal excoriation. Oh, who am I kidding. Things that hurt the BUTT are money. -
New show from a Buffy writer/producer picked up

I'll watch, simply because I used to live in the real Point Pleasant. Weird. -
I thought it would be some of that goofy "X beat Y, who beat Z, so they could take Z, clearly" mojo. College football's getting closer and closer to being an "on any given Saturday" situation. Stanford will be lucky to win two more games this year.
-
There's very little rhyme or reason to these. Purdue annihilates a pair of cupcakes and you push them to number 4? I think they're playing like a top-20 team, but I also think you need to beat someone legit before you deserve to break that high. You also hopped on the Boise State bandwagon; while they're good, they're certainly not 6th-best in the nation good. There's a big difference between beating Oregon State one week and beating comparable teams 6 times a year, which is what most of your other top-10 teams do on a regular basis. What is Stanford doing on there?

19 Years of Isolation Have Left Me Socially Inept

You're in college. Join a club or society that has weekly events and parties. Any of 'em. Do tech work for a drama group, do some readings for a literary society, or get involved with anything. You'll instantly get acquaintances, and probably manage some friends, too. -
Don't forget, guys. Kerry will collapse over an intern issue.

Within this interview the context makes perfect sense. Holbrooke makes a decent argument as to why Iraq is currently a strategically worse situation than Vietnam, while also acknowledging the fact that there's no way it could be considered nearly as bad in terms of American casualties. Several people have suggested that they hope Bush picks up the "Iraq is worse than Vietnam" quote, and if he does, he certainly won't be laying out all of Holbrooke's case and the many points and subpoints that follow. In short: if the comment gets picked up, it'll be more of the "you took it out of context" vs. "it's plain as day" blithering that's gone back and forth on both sides (i.e., re: Kerry's many alleged flip-flops, Cheney's comment about the risk of attack w/o Bush in the White House, etc). Do we really want more of that nonsense?

This reminds me of when Julian Casablancas cancelled a Strokes tour on account of a broken leg. If the status quo is standing there immobile and singing, just get a chair.
-
Because that quote, of course, reflects the entire context and tone of this interview, which was surprisingly well-conducted and responded in this hyperactive campaign season. I thought we all wanted the level of discourse raised?

The OAO 'Garden State' Thread
Edwin MacPhisto replied to Lord of The Curry's topic in Television & Film
A good movie, but one that is clearly a film debut. Fun, charming, and funny, but a lot of downtimes, agonizingly cheeseball scenes, and stiff, cliche moments. I love the Shins, but the whole "listen to this song - it'll change your life! Whoa! Yeah!" was straight out of a freshman writing workshop. Overall, very glad I saw it, especially for the very subtle, satisfying performances from all the leads. Braff has a bit of a way to go before he corners the market on quirky. -
Since I seem to be the most gung-ho ACC guy around here, I'll summarize this week's games. Miami over FSU was obviously the big one. Both teams looked like offensive shit, but two pretty much immobile defensive lines kept the game within reach throughout. This is probably the worst game these guys have played against each other in recent memory, but it ended the same as it always does. With Clemson taking an upset loss to Georgia Tech, Miami's 1-0 ACC mark looks very nice. Georgia Tech "upsetting" Clemson was overall the best game played - one of the ACC's middle powers knocking an upper-middle power down a peg. Georgia Tech isn't a pushover team, and they pulled this off despite being down 10 with three minutes left. For anyone who didn't watch, Clemson's long-snapper launched the ball back to his own 10 when a simple punt with 40 seconds left probably would have sealed the win. After struggling against Wake and losing thanks to sloppy mistakes here, Clemson is living up to the forecast of "most overhyped team." Virginia mouthraped UNC, 56-24, in a score that makes the game look much more competitive than it really was. I was there, hooting and hollering in an orange shirt and chuckling after a 100 yard kick return by Marquis Weeks and a 4-back rushing corps that combined for 300 yards and 7 touchdowns. Two cupcakes so far, but the offensive and defensive lines are really starting to click. UVa probably won't run into any trouble until they can find a team that can shut down their run. Up 20-6 in the fourth quarter, Duke almost knocked off UConn, but the Huskies rallied and pulled it off 22-20. It's nothing new for Duke, but a bit surprising to see supposed Big East contender Connecticut come this close to getting spanked. Maryland basically did the same thing Virginia did last week, ripping Temple into tiny little pieces. New QB Joel Statham had an important game for getting adjusted, going 18-25 for 268 yards. Not too much to say on the other games - Wake got past East Carolina, and Virginia Tech put up 63 on hapless Western Michigan, a team enjoying its second year of being an ACC punching bag. 2 games in, here's how I'd rank Tobacco Road. Once most of the teams stop playing easy wins, this should all shift around quite a bit. 1. Miami 2. Virginia 3. FSU 4. Maryland 5. Georgia Tech 6. Va. Tech 7. Clemson 8. NC State 9. Wake 10. Duke 11. UNC
-
HAHAHA. FSU offense: 4 turnovers. 3 points. Served. Gawd, they're going to kill themselves.
-
BOOM The game just turned around. That one catch was more yardage than the rest of the team's total, I think.

Stirring up shit at a vigil is a bad idea, but I fear you're making a vast overgeneralization. I know you say you're not posting it to prove anything about the left or for political purpose, but it does come off that way. It reads like you're saying that protest is not worthwhile because its hurts feelings of people like Drake's relatives. This probably ignores the nuances of your own opinion about protest and about the war, but this is one of those stories that, when the media reacts to it and the talking heads analyze it, comes dangerously close to that vile suggestion of "you're with us or you're with the terrorists." So while I certainly agree on a personal level that making a scene at a vigil isn't right, the "remember that it affects people" assertion strikes a bad chord with me - it can get taken in a lot of wrong directions. The point of protest or any expression of a political view is exactly that - to affect people. It doesn't always work and sometimes it's retarded, but more often than not it's a healthy part of the political discourse. The only persons I would blame here are the individuals who allegedly taunted the family directly. Issuing even the simple apology was a classy thing to do.

The way this sort of things works though, I doubt it was much of his choice to do the cloning nonsense. There was no way Fox was making this movie without Sigourney Weaver, and I honestly don't know how the hell you're supposed to get her back without some cloning bullshit. It is still a retarded movie (that, admittedly, I do like to watch sometimes), but I think Whedon gets way too much flack for something that was a train-wreck on all fronts.
