Doves - "There Goes The Fear." Luminous.

Trying to work full-time, or even something like 20 or 25 hours a week, is probably a bad idea. It will take away from your study time, and unless you're tremendously disciplined, you won't make it up. I'm looking to pick up 10-12 hours in the library system this year to grab a little extra cash. On-campus jobs don't pay that well, but they're easy, have flexible hours, and can give you enough spending money to get by. Of course, if you need to work big-time to actually pay for school, then by all means do it. On Jaxl's notion of no jobs once you graduate, go for some internships and connections during your college years and the summers in between them, and you'll be in better shape come the end of it all.

Jurassic Park 4 - A review of the screenplay.
Edwin MacPhisto replied to Downhome's topic in Television & Film
I read this last week. Fucking brilliant. -
Wild that AgentBond and I only differed on two, compared with the other slates. Fresno State gonna tear up, suckas.

I think it's pretty likely that this isn't the original Peter Rasputin who killed himself while the rest of the team played basketball. His memories, maybe, but body? Probably not.

Smug bastards? In all the interviews I've read, Pete Carroll and his players seem like one of the most humble bunches of guys in 1-A. I'm looking forward to the came, but I think it's going to be USC by 2 touchdowns. Keeping it close seems to be the best VT can do against these mutants.

Regarding your favorite bands.........
Edwin MacPhisto replied to Lord of The Curry's topic in Music
Probably the best sentence I've seen on here in a while. The favorite band thing is a mix for me. With some acts I know right away, 30 seconds into a song - "Building Steam With A Grain of Salt" for DJ Shadow, hearing the Pixies' "Where Is My Mind?" for the first time, etc. - but for others it's a slow burn of accumulation. Prince fits the mold here. Hits compilations --> friend's copy of Purple Rain --> Dirty Mind really starting to click --> getting Sign o' the Times. After that stretch of about 6 months, he shot way up in my estimation. Then there are a few others that have been semi-ingrained since childhood, thanks to the parents; the Beatles are the obvious example here. -

Top-25 Stupidest Moments in Fed History!
Edwin MacPhisto replied to the.weej's topic in Community/General
The nut bite wasn't stupid. It was GLORIOUS. Great list. And not just because I wrote some of it. Great memories, great laughter. I wish a few more had been from the SWF era, but maybe we need that hindsight and all. Beautiful. -
Poor guy. Willie Williams is going to murder him after that jab.

I barely ever burn. Download like a fiend, and buy what I really like. If it's good enough to put it on a CD-R and take it beyond my laptop or iPod, I generally want to legitimately own it.

"Atmosphere" only a 6? You mad devil, you. Flip it 180 degrees. Great stuff altogether, agreed.

I think it's pretty cool. The resurrection seems to tie in directly to what's going on with Benetech, so there's a lot of good to be seen here. A shitstorm of people jumped on Whedon for the "Jean?" thing at the end of #3, and that turned out to not be as clear as it might have seemed at all. I give him the same leeway here, and hope he pulls it off. Ord remains boring as all get-out, though.

Pot grower faces murder charges for firefighter
Edwin MacPhisto replied to EdwardKnoxII's topic in Current Events
Why would you 'rack him up for manslaughter'? Firefighters fight fire, as is their job, firefighters accidentally die. Unless it's arson, it makes no sense to hold the resident of a home culpable; you may as well let your house burn down rather than possibly incur 8 years in prison. A fire from leaving the oven on too long is negligence too; this'd only get play because of the drugs. -
Can you give us some more context? I.e., a link, if possible. Lapham sometimes writes semi-prognosticatory pieces, and I'm guessing this is probably one of those. He's a bit shrill, but not silly enough to publish it as if it were a news report if the September issue is already available.

You know, in all seriousness, the best way to get over any vice is to start killing hookers.

Bush condemns 527s, asks Kerry to do the same
Edwin MacPhisto replied to Jobber of the Week's topic in Current Events
Not a whole lot, but the million or two people that may be swayed have a good chance of being difference-makers. Campaign advertising is retarded and I'd prefer if it were banned altogether. Unfortunately, I don't think the country or its would-be leaders are ready to adapt to a system based on content and clear statements of policy. It'd also put the challenging candidate at a perpetual disadvantage. Oh, to dream. -
Kibs' case-by-case notion is a good and probably effective one. I don't know the specifics of your usage, but I will say that at your young age, you have almost certainly not had enough time to become genuinely addicted to any of the substances you take. If you want to stop, willpower can still be a major factor; it's almost unfathomable that you've already passed the point of legitimate dependency. If your friends are helping you rather than telling you to fuck off and drink with them, you're already in good shape to make the most of your own convictions.

Quiet, you. Fine, laid back pop-rock for a casual mood and a bit of dancing, with some wonderful intros and outros, and some delicious angular bridges. As I've said, I paid $8 for it, and that's just about the right price. Not great, but good, and miles above 'bullshit rock.'

Connections between Bush and Swift Vets
Edwin MacPhisto replied to jesse_ewiak's topic in Current Events
Edwin, let's face it: Kerry's calling on Bush to denounce the ad without actually addressing any of the issues discussed in it is just as much a dodge, politically motivated as well. He doesn't want to cast doubt on his service, so instead of putting forth any sort of answer he demands Bush denounce and then claims that he's in control of it when he doesn't singularly denounce it. Both candidates are dodging, but Kerry dodged first instead of simply punching this thing down. Again, he's has the worst damage control of any campaign I've ever seen. I never said it wasn't. Kerry's call for him to denounce it is political too - anything these guys do for the next 2 and a half months is political, even it's eating pancakes for breakfast. I'm merely noting that the president shouldn't get a free pass just because he's said "get rid of all 527s"; the blanket statement does not specifically refer to the SVBT ad, and makes a deliberate point of not doing so. -
Connections between Bush and Swift Vets
Edwin MacPhisto replied to jesse_ewiak's topic in Current Events
It's still a dodge, Mike. Even Scott McClellan made a special point of noting that Bush's statement today did not indicate a change of his position on the ad. It's smart politics and PR, certainly, but don't pretend that it's not still taking advantage of what SBVT has done. -
"YOU ARE HIS FUCKING DISEASED COCKTOY"
Edwin MacPhisto replied to Justice's topic in Community/General
I don't get it. -
Sure, sucka. Match was pretty cool, but I think you guys overdid it with the near-falls. Maybe a few less would have kept it feeling more like an angle-advancing TV match. Still good, though. An interesting ending - I thought the booking of the angle thus far was leading towards TMM becoming Todd's pick and the legitimate champion, with MVS either playing out his rage or trying to tune over a new leaf to earn back Cortez's respect. The post-match antics are cool if a little textbook, and how good it is will depend on what happens hereafter. There are countless ways you could go. My personal favorites would be a swerve and a huge TMM/MVS grudge match at G4, or an adoption of the Fabulous Freebirds style tag team, with Todd, MVS, and TMM defending the belts in all available permutations. The latter would work best if they had a huge opposition - if RevZero made a legitimate bid for the belts, if they built up a huge rivalry with some dastardly heel team. Most important in whatever goes down will be making sure that Todd Cortez isn't left out of the developments. Obviously, the result of the next show's tag title match ought to have huge implications for this angle, one way or another.
