Yeah motherfuckin right, boyee. My real Purple Rain ratings would actually probably take "Computer Blue" and "Baby I'm A Star" down to 8, and maybe knock "The Beautiful Ones" by one point. Still my favorite album one way or another, so we'll pretend I left it all 10s.
-
My scores on Desperate Youth would be almost identical, except that I'd probably move one point from "Poppy" to "Dreams."

The one on the desk chair is the best. She's sly about it.
-
I'm listening to Interpol too. "Evil," the one track I've allowed myself off the new album.

Don't forget "Downtown Train." Not on the official track list, but it's there. It's a 10 for me, one of his finest pop moments. Bob Dylan - Blood on the Tracks Tangled Up In Blue: 9 Simple Twist of Fate: 8 You're a Big Girl Now: 7 Idiot Wind: 10 You're Gonna Make Me Lonesome When You Go: 8 Meet Me In the Morning: 8 Lily, Rosemary, and the Jack of Hearts: 10 If You See Her, Say Hello: 10 Shelter from the Storm: 8 Buckets of Rain: 9 "Lily..." and "If You See Her, Say Hello" is a devastating combo. You go from sheer euphoric whirlwind to one of Dylan's saddest songs. It's weird when all but one track is 8 or higher, and I feel like I might be skewing low.

I'm listening to Blood on the Tracks, and then imma go rate it.

You don't like The Clash [uS]? It's great, if less elegant than London Calling. "(White Man) In Hammersmith Palais" especially.
-
Content-wise, both this and your last promo have been very good. Just proof-read them a few times in the future, clean up the punctuation and what-not, and you'll be rollin' steady. People'll pay more attention the clearer they look.

False. Between Clash US and London Calling I can rattle off 15 songs I'd call much better than "Rock the Casbah." I really don't like Combat Rock. At all.

Almost 40 champs since me. Wow. Makes a guy feel old. -

I'm never sure if I like that the Blonde on Blonde remaster is split into the two discs. I always just listen to the first, because it's pretty much perfect. "Idiot Wind" is superb but I'll go with Spiny and take "I Want You" and possibly even "Stuck Inside of Mobile..." over it as personal favorites.

For the sake of elucidation, I'd call most of what we're discussing as shitty art not even bad art, but failed art. Art is a synthesis of intent and product. If your concept is to illustrate the irrelevancy of form and color by painting a wall blue, you'll probably fail just by virtue of a weak-ass extension of your concept into an insufficient product.

Jaxl, we must again brawl. "When the Levee Breaks" smokes everything on that album and almost everything in the Zeppelin catalog. FIGHT Wu-Tang Clan - Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) Bring Da Ruckus 10 Shame on a Nigga 8 Clan in Da Front 8 Wu Tang: 7th Chamber 7 Can It Be All So Simple 7 Da Mystery of Chessboxin' 10 Wu Tang Clan Ain't Nothin To Fuck Wit 10 C.R.E.A.M. 9 Method Man 8 Protect Ya Neck 10 Tearz 8 Wu-Tang: 7th Chamber Pt 2 5 As you might have guessed, this is one of my favorites. Add a point to each song if you're listening to it in the car with the bass turned up.

Well, yeah. No reason for "Oh My God" to have the Terminator in it, though. It's awesome when he's in the crowd at the concert. Cheese-ball.
-
Far and away my pick for the best thing GnR's ever done. And the only thing worse than "My World," period, on earth, including genocide, is "Oh My God." At least the former is, what, 80 seconds long? Pixies time: Good score. The version on Complete B-Sides is a 10.

5'3", 6'5", no big deal... I have actually never really thought of a person who'd make a good Edwin.

It is admittedly very weird to see Modest Mouse of all bands with three nominations from anything associated with MTV. Breakthrough makes sense, though; they've been around for just about a decade, and this *was* the song/video that made them break through. "Best New Artist" would've been funnier.

The Death comics are very good, but volume 6 - Fables and Reflections - isn't really representative of Sandman as a whole. As a matter of fact, that's just stand-alone stories. They're good, especially "Three Septembers and a January" (the one with Emperor Norton), but the real meat of Sandman is in the incredible mythology that Gaiman crafts over 75 issues. Read the first Sandman volume, Preludes and Nocturnes. It'll get you on the right track.

Join the club. I can't stand the tabs, or the ridiculous way that reading the album review now precludes you from looking at the tracklist and vice versa. At least it's much faster now than it was right after the re-design launched.

This needs a bit of revising. Let's Go Crazy: 10 Take Me With U: 10 The Beautiful Ones: 10 Computer Blue: 10 Darling Nikki: 10 When Doves Cry: 10 I Would Die 4 U: 10 Baby I'm A Star: 10 Purple Rain: 10 Pixies - Doolittle Debaser: 10 Tame: 9 Wave of Mutilation: 9 I Bleed: 7 Here Comes Your Man: 8 Dead: 5 Monkey Gone To Heaven: 10 Mr. Grieves: 8 Crackity Jones: 8 La La Love You: 7 No. 13 Baby: 6 There Goes My Gun: 7 Hey: 10 Silver: 6 Gouge Away: 8

Obama was as good as everyone hyped him to be. Excellent rhetoritician (real word, promise!), and his thing with the red states/blue states was clever as hell - a really simple, comfortable way of saying what a lot of Americans in the middle are thinking. He comes off as a moderate with good ideas who's far above the far right/far left bickering that makes politics so tiresome. Thumbs up.

I disagree with you so hard. Moore's "hit by car" example was emotional treacle, and his notion of a people earning their own government rather than having it installed was his best-made point. I don't know if either of them "won." I just wanted them to kiss a little.

Girls Aloud, "The Show." Apparently this is huge in England and I somehow missed it. 1993 is back in a big way, evidently.

I just grabbed a set of the new trade editions for $100 on EBay. I don't like the designs as much as the last, but they're still pretty cool, and it's going to be great to finally have them all in my permanent collection. Between this and the Cure concert though, I think my summer spending is finished.
