Your picking out a few lines out of the articles--while it does serve the purpose of proving the moot point that they hate us--ignores the fact that they are, in fact, condemning the act.

Iraqis condemn it, too I'm getting these links from a few websites that are trying to gauge the reaction to this incident. They may or may not be credible, as I've only had time to scan them. Still, it's worth mentioning that there IS a significant outcry against this. Of course, there's some of the expected reactions as well.

It's not racist. They're a bunch of fucks. Any group of rich assholes who abuse their people and do nothing that doesn't benefit themselves don't deserve respect, nor do they deserve all that we've done for them. My point was that your supposed tenets--i.e., anti-cultural tolerance--is right in line with theirs. Yes, we should definitely fight intolerance with intolerance. This will, ultimately, solve everything.

If the Sauds were willing to do it--which, of course, might not be possible at this point--we'd find a way to prop them up for a while until things calmed down. I know you're not. It simply comes off that way in rhetoric, and that's the way the thread ends up reading when I'm trying to catch up after taking a few days off of the internet. Of course, but that still doesn't justify our offenses, either. And again, I'm not saying that the prison scandal is normal for our military; of course it's not. However, it's still awful; of course, the beheading is just as bad, if not worse. Your point about radical Islam is all too true, and it reminds me of a similar point that Richard Clarke made in his unfairly condemned book. He suggested that in order to stem the perversion of Islam and the Wahhabist philosophies, we should try to work with the leaders of countries such as Saudi Arabia--who owes us for the fact that their royal family is still even fucking alive--and its neighbors to spread more tolerant, true Islam in the schools. It wouldn't necessarily show immediate results--and this is why it isn't done--but in the long run, it would pay dividends. But the point is moot; they're still doing this. It just annoys me that you guys are trying to justify the torture by saying "Well, at least we're not killing them!" Just call a spade a spade, for the love of Marney.

What gets me is that some people are trying to justify BOTH SIDES of this travesty--that is, both the beheading and the torture. Just give it a rest, for chrissakes. Not everything is about politics, and even though it may seem that way at times, pretty much nobody on this board is *actually* a racist. Even if they DO drop ill-advised slurs at times.
