Billy Wagner saves another game and brings his ERA down to 1.50 in the process. He really is having a remarkable year, one of the best for a Mets reliever in the team's history. Jesse Orosco and John Franco had some damn good seasons.

When was the last time FOX had a good idea regarding football coverage?
-
Subtitle needs to go immediately. C'mon now.

STOP RUNNING ON JEFF FRANCOEUR YOU MORONS

Billy Wagner's luck has to run out sometime. I'm just glad it wasn't tonight. Phillies slip into second place, half a game ahead of the Braves. It'd be pretty cool if the Mets can win again tomorrow and keep both Philadelphia and Atlanta at arm's length as they enter their series against one another.

Rockies are crushing the Brewers right now 16-2. What the hell is going on in Milwaukee?
-
Nah. They'll at least play well enough to win the Wild Card, though.
-
Not entirely ESPN's fault, but those Miller High Life commercials that air on their networks are terrible. "Oh no, please don't take your shitty watered down beer from our upscale markets and restaurants! PLEASE!"
-
And it's three hundred. Very cool of the Cubs fans to give Glavine the ovation they did.

Luis Castillo has a tremendous game (four hits, two stolen bases, two runs) and then promptly gets hurt. Christ almighty.

The flying kick was pretty impressive, but yeah, Melky's double is one of the strangest things I've seen in a baseball game in a good long while. I doubt that's the scenario the rulebook writers had in mind when they came up with that statute. Nice to see the Mets gain a little ground on Atlanta and Philadelphia today, even with Kyle Kendrick throwing a terrific game and Texiera continuing to play out of his mind.

Bobby Cox in the background of the TBS broadcast: "C'mon! Can't we fucking get one goddamn-" Nice.
-
Mike Lamb just hit a pinch-hit Grand Slam to tie the Houston/Atlanta game at nine in the top of the eighth. That was tremendous.
-
Careful, if trends follow that means Milwaukee's about to go on a 35-15 tear.
-
I dunno. It's not like Lo Duca has achieved a Piazza-like following, and that coupled with his relative lack of production this year should prevent the fanbase from getting too upset. The clubhouse got over Franco's departure pretty much instantly, so I figure they'll manage Lo Duca leaving pretty well also. Let's go Cubbies!

Three-run homer from Ramon Castro puts the Mets up 4-3 in the top of the second. I've heard that Castro simply can't handle a full-time assignment, but from what I've seen of him this year, I don't think management should go nuts looking for a catcher to replace Lo Duca after this season. A decent platoon partner might be all they need. Provided they resign Castro, that is.

They're going to cut away from the Mets/Brewers game every time Alex Rodriguez comes up to the plate. God damn it.

http://www.ajc.com/news/content/sports/bra...ranco_0801.html I feel kinda mean for doing so, but I found this really funny.

Actually, he was placed on 15-day as of yesterday. It's retroactive to July 25th, so he'll be eligible to come off of the list on the 10th.

I have to admit, The Bronx is Burning is actually kinda good. They'd be smart to recreate the on-field events as little as possible, though - it looks like the actors are in front of a blue screen in those scenes, and the effect's kinda jarring when edited together with actual footage from the game they're acting out.

"Yooooostie..." Luis Castillo's first hit as a Met was a bunt single. That seems appropriate. Edit: That's the end of that. I can't work up any outrage from this loss since Milwaukee really should have scored in each of the past four innings. It was pretty clear the bullpen was just avoiding the inevitable from the point Mota came into the game.

Darrelle Revis still hasn't signed with the Jets. This makes me nervous.
-
Knowing that #300 isn't happening hurts, but now all I give a damn about is getting a win. Also, I take comfort in knowing that I'll never be as hard on the Mets as Czech. Also also, I <3 Milledge.

The Brewers fans show quite a bit of class, giving Glavine a very nice reception as exits the game in the bottom of the seventh with the Mets up 2-1.

Castillo to Mets is a done deal. http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/wire?sectio...&id=2955068 Mets didn't give up a whole lot, but I would hope that'd be the case for a sixty game rental of Luis Castillo.
