Who's playing the trumpet? Does some guy regularly bring one to the Coliseum and play throughout the game?

I've seen both, and love both, but suggest you pick up the manga. The anime's filler is really annoying and incredibly rushed, and some of the jokes are dumbed down or changed completely in the transition from print to film.

This is the best I could have expected from the Mets tonight. The pitching, highlighted by one of Glavine's finest starts all year, was superb. The batting, particularly against Kuo, was a little sketchy, and doesn't bode well should the Mets face any more tough lefties in future matchups. Really, they only should have scored two runs on the entire night. But, the extra two they scored was thanks to the Dodgers' defense, which was lacking while the Mets' was basically flawless. Very well done so far. Now I just gotta hope Trachsel can be an anchor in the rotation, which would definitively answer any questions about the quality of the Mets' pitching.

The manga's amazing. You could probably read the whole thing before getting ahold of the movie; it's only 108 short chapters.

Walker makes an amazing stop, but isn't even able to make a throw to first as Edmonds drives in Pujols with an infield single. 2-0 Cards.

That was ugly. I'm amazed that Wilson even scored on such a hard-hit ball.

Yeah. What gets me is the shot of the twin lights from Ground Zero. Most commercials that breathlessly spout false patriotism are usually a lot more subtle than that.

This game isn't going to be played tonight, is it?

Great game. The offense actually produced more runs than I expected, and the pitching wasn't the catastrophe it was being made out to be. Although he was extraordinarily lucky, Maine was still very effective for the 4.1 innings he was out there. The bullpen micromanagement was a little too LaRussaesque for my tastes, but I can see how it was necessary in this contest. And, of course, Delgado had a historically good first postseason game, hitting against the shift twice to get hits. I don't think the importance of the Mets winning here can be understated, as they face a lefty starter tomorrow and Maddux in LA on Saturday. I just have no idea what to expect from Kuo; did he blank the Mets earlier in the year because he was a lefty that the Mets had never seen before, or because he's really really talented? We'll find out soon enough, I suppose.

The new Enhanced Gameday is so cool. I'm amazed they can accumulate and distribute information like pitch trajectory and speed so quickly.

John Maine is going to start tonight. What's more, Hernandez isn't going to be available for this series and is questionable for a possible CS. http://newyork.mets.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/new...sp&c_id=nym I'm not going to freak out about this. I still think the team is strong enough to win this series. If nothing else, Maine winning tonight would make for a great story.

Nice one, Casey. Thanks for the clarification, Slayer. Edit: And Mike Myers leaves with an ERA of infinity.

Why is one of the Indians fans in that insipid Lasorda commercial wearing a Reds hat? Edit: Bah. Polanco couldn't make the same play Belliard did earlier in the day.

Now we've got a game. Also, I loved "Reads the Bible: Every Day".

So what if management is actively sabotaging your favorite team? Who cares if the number of people who personally witnessed Anibal Sanchez' no-hitter was roughly equal to the attendance at your average AA meeting? And what's the big deal if the manager who took what was basically a AAA team and made them serious playoff contenders was fired two days after the season ended? It's the playoffs, damn it. Time for you to enjoy the teams that aren't being constructed to lose and to push out of your mind the fact that Las Vegas will be the home for your ballclub two years from now. To the TV!

What a terrible call that was. I wish managers would realize that Hit and Runs fail spectacularly as often as they succeed. Edit: Guh. This lineup is just too much.

Tomorrow. Also, it's looking like Maine will get the job if Hernandez isn't available.

Great game. I don't think it's unfair to say that the Twins are in considerable trouble.
-
I reiterate; Frank Thomas is the man.

He must have thought Chavez had the ball. I don't know where he would have gotten that thought (all Chavez did was lift his glove), but I'm almost positive that's it.

They've been nibbling at the fences all game, one was bound to get out sooner or later. 2-1 thanks to a Rondell White solo shot.

Glavine will probably get the nod. Upon further thought, it's not that big a deal if Hernandez can't start game one. Glavine is just as capable as he is, and so long as Orlando's able to pitch sometime in this series, I don't think the Mets will suffer too much. But if Hernandez isn't able to pitch in the DS at all, the Mets might as well pack it in. A rotation of Glavine/Trachsel/Maine does not inspire confidence.

2-0 on a Scutaro RBI double.
