Detroit's fate is still definitely in their own hands, especially considering that they have four-game series with both the White Sox and Twins before the season ends. The series with the Sox starts tomorrow, by the way. I think we'll have a much better idea of what the Tigers' situation is on Thursday night than we do now.

Haha, I love Tiger Woods. You can see him gradually getting visibly more disgusted with this idiotic crowd as the day draws to a close.

Perez gets two and a half million next year, the final year of his contract. He's receiving the same amount for his work this season.

Orlando Hernandez has a terrific start (6 IP, 5 H, 1 BB, 0 R) after getting shellacked his last time out. He even got his first career stolen base (a swipe of third!) today.

http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseball...7p-374889c.html Hoo boy. This is not good. I guess those posts strummer found earlier were pretty accurate.

Is anybody else watching the Mets/Rockies game on MLB.TV? My feed doesn't have any graphics and I'm curious as to whether it's a problem with SNY or with MLB.TV.

Latest word regarding Naruto fillers, from narutofan.com... This is coming from the same site that said fillers would end like twenty weeks ago, so take this with a grain of salt.

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2550337 Guh. Note how the name of the league magically switches from the GBL to the BGL halfway through. Also, rumors abound that the Mets are close to acquiring Shawn Green, but, of course, there's nothing definitive as of yet.

After Randa performed spectacularly against the Mets in their opening series with the Reds last year, he became the topic of an inside joke between my dad and I. Now, when judging the merits of a baseball player, we bandy about such adjectives as "Randastic" or "Randacular" or proclaim that "he's no Joe Randa". Also, my hatred of the Astros mainly comes from the fact that they play in the worst place ever built for the express purpose of playing baseball.

Well, John Maine's scorless inning streak has come to an end at twenty-six and two thirds, thanks to a solo home run from Nick Johnson. That was the first hit Maine had given up on the night, and is only the second Nationals baserunner through four innings. Another great start so far.

At first, I read that as by the Yankee bullpen, as in they're the ones who performed the act.

As far as I can tell, the Dragon Quest for Wii is basically a hack 'n slash using the controller as a sword, and I'm perfectly fine with that. Not in the mood to start an argument regarding VIII at the moment.
-
Uh, great? It's fine if you don't want to take advantage of the offer, but you don't have to act like piracy is a ridiculously superior option.
-
No one's even the least bit excited about a new Dragon Quest? I'm definitely getting that at launch along with Zelda, which alone should occupy my time for at least a month.

The only thing that might save him is the fact that about half the defense has committed a gaff at one point or another during this inning.

The Get Smart one.

Man, all sorts of great games going on tonight. Royals score two in the bottom of the ninth to snatch the victory from Boston, the scoring capped off by an RBI single from Mike Sweeney of all people. To say Papelbon wasn't on tonight would be an understatement.

Good lord. It's now 7-6 Yankees at US Cellular after the Bombers had a 7-0 lead. I am going to tear my hair out if they blow this game.
-
Yeah! Go Reds! What a great night of baseball this has been so far.
-
Same here. Also, Gatorade is a lot better when you buy the powder mix and use about twice as much powder as recommended.

From MLB's story regarding the Hollandsworth trade... "LAST SEASON, I led this team in ninth-inning doubles in the month of August!"
-
They're down by two in the bottom of the eighth.
-
How long has Scott Spezio had that ridiculously gay little beard? He needs to shave immediately. Also, three doubles in three at-bats so far for Beltran.

Ortiz looks to be the most likely MVP candidate at this point despite not even being the best hitter on his team. Hafner and Thome have both been remarkable (and arguably better than Ortiz), but they've got the DH strike against them as well in addition to not having had nearly as many high-profile hits. Plus, I seriously doubt that Hafner is getting more than a handful of votes playing on the Indians. If I had a vote (and believe me, it pains me to say this) I probably actually would give it to Derek Jeter. Guy's been unbelievable this year. I wouldn't mind Ramirez as MVP either.

As expected, Piazza got a great reception his first time up. He stepped out of the batter's box twice before the crowd calmed down enough for play to continue.
