Soler's being pinch hit for after turning in a terrific start. 7 IP, 6 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 7 K. If Alay can continue to pitch at a level anywhere near that, it pretty much solves the Mets' rotation problems.

Scully called the '86 World Series. If you've seen the video, that's Vin Scully on the call. That's pretty cool. I was born in '85, so of course I didn't get to watch that series live, but I've watched the official video tape summarizing the series more times than I can remember.

Unfortunately, yeah, this is the first game I'm hearing him call that I can remember. I've heard his name before tonight but haven't had the pleasure of listening to him commentate at length until just recently.
-
Maybe I'm a little late realizing this, but I really like this Vin Scully guy who's calling the game for the Dodgers. I wish more commentary was in-depth description of the game like he's doing. Beats the hell out of most other local feeds, which is usually just two idiots yammering back and forth about seemingly whatever comes to mind.

Holy damn, leadoff homerun for Reyes. That's not a good sign for Tomko.
-
That's the impression I initially got when I first heard his name as well. Not quite that detailed, but along the same lines.

Oatmeal chocolate chip cookie. My favorite.

After the Mets had gone down 6-4, Jose Valentin hits a solo home run in the bottom of the tenth, only for Lastings Milledge to hit one shortly thereafter and tie the game up at 6! God damn! I now admit that I might have been a bit too rash earlier regarding Lastings.
-
Annnnnnd the Mets are going to extra innings. Again.
-
David Wright hits his second home run of the day to tie the game at 4-4 in the bottom of the 8th. I'm constantly amazed at just how good he is.
-
Milledge comes through with a two-out, two RBI double in the bottom of the 6th to put the Mets up 3-1. He's been having a very good day thus far, as that hit puts him at 2-2 with a walk.
-
Woodward hits a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 11th, ending the game at 3-2. Oddly enough, Lastings Milledge was the one who scored, as he pinch ran for Lo Duca on third base. Very nice slide from him, too. Really glad they pulled this one out. Coulda been a real drain on the team if they didn't.
-
Sure, but at least Delgado's performance prior to that slump suggests that he'll eventually snap out of it. Milledge has no prior major league performance to speak of, and wasn't doing that hot in AAA either. It's not outrageous to suggest that he shouldn't have been brought up yet. Of course, Diaz has been struggling in AAA recently as well, so whattaya gonna do...
-
Chris Woodward's playing in right instead of Lastings Milledge. Probably for the best; Lastings has gone 1 for 11, striking out four times in those eleven at-bats. In retrospect, Victor Diaz probably should have been called up instead.

Thanks, that's good to hear. I feared it would only be on WB 11 or something similar.
-
I've come to terms with the fact that I won't be able to watch the first Mets game (thanks Fox!), but does anyone know on what channel the second game will be broadcasted, if it's going to be broadcasted at all?

Were you at least able to get his/her plate number? No such luck. By the time my car had completed its spin, the Jeep was too far away for me to make out its plate. I had considered going after it, but I decided it wasn't the best idea to chase it down a treacherous highway in a car that might be seriously damaged (the damage was only asthetic, but I didn't know that at the time).
-
Two winters ago, I was driving home on a snow-covered highway. I was going slowly and maneuvering my car carefully, not wanting to lose control of it in the middle of the road. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw a Jeep Cherokee kinda veering towards my tiny Saturn SL2, and before I know it, he slams into the area right above my passenger side front tire. My car does a complete three-sixty in the middle of the highway, and I fucking lose it. I just sit there in my car, cursing up a storm as the son of a bitch that hit me drove off without even checking to see if I was okay. So, I didn't get to flip out on anyone in particular, though I was definitely mighty pissed off and would have done so if given the opportunity.

Well, the Mets game got rained out tonight, and will apparently be played tomorrow as part of a doubleheader. That seems fine until you realize that The Weather Channel has the chances of precipitation tomorrow at 100%. I'd be surprised if more than one game of this series gets played this weekend.
-
Also, holding your nose while drinking something usually does the trick.
-
It means that the contract is for $22 million, but since he's only playing for slightly more than half the season, he doesn't get paid the full amount and instead will only receive ~$12 million.

Fantastic game at Shea thus far. Both Martinez and Webb were terrific. Going into the bottom of the 9th right now with the game tied at zero; the Mets have Beltran, Delgado, and Wright coming up in this frame. Annnnnd they all strike out. Goin' to extras, again...
-
Clemens returning doesn't bother me too much at the moment, but I will be pissed if the Astros make the playoffs after proving themselves to be a wholly mediocre team without Roger.
-
Very interesting. It might be a bit much to hope he's starting tonight, but I hope that's the case. I'm tired of Endy Chavez being stuck out there whenever an outfielder needs a day off.

Pujols cranks his 25th, a three-run job that puts the Cards up 3-1 in the bottom of the seventh.
