  1. I think Guiness is one of those brands where way more people buy the shirts/beanies/hats with the logo, then actually drink the beer. I think the bigger problem is that your beer novice people think Guiness is a one of a kind beer and don't realize that tons of breweries make the same type of dark, thick beer that is even better. Don't get me wrong, I love-me some Guiness, but I would consider it an intro for it's category of beer.

Agreed. Once you know you like stouts, that Blue Fin Stout on tap at the pub looks less intimidating and more delicious. Which it is. Notes of chocolate and coffee... a delicious after work break. Mmmm.

  2. GBV's Alien Lanes has had a lot of spin in the last month or so.

good show! I got turned on to Guided By Voices last year by a customer and wow. Alien Lanes and Bee Thousand both are wonderful albums start to finish. "Hot Freaks" is one of my favorite tracks... can't remember which album though.

Somehow I've been going on quite the disparate 2-band kick: Dragonforce's "Inhuman Justice" album and The Postal Service's "Give Up". Sort of an odd switch, but I can't listen to crossdressing Japanese men all the time.

  3. I think Ubuntu includes both KDE and GNOME in the distro though doesn't it? Been a bit.

They do, but as two different distro options - Ubuntu proper (GNOME) or Kubuntu (KDE).

If we want to go super technical there's three (XFCE on Xubuntu)

But when I see "Ubuntu" I assume the GNOME version, but you're right. I've used Kubuntu to much joy.

  4. If there is no one thing I hate more that a smug Pats fan, its a smug Colts fan. Wishing death on Belichek and Brady? Remember football is only a game.

This is why I rarely leave the SWF boards here...

Yes - Football's only a game to me. A game I love but just a game. However, when every. God. Damned. Pats. Fan. Bleats. Every. God. Damn. Day. About. How. Superior. They. Are. Because. They. Root. For. A. Fucking. Team...

Yes, I would've been happy to see that, just so the moronic Boston fans around here would feel as much, if not more, horrible as I have these past 6 years. Even last year when they won all I heard was "They were lucky that Reche dropped the ball".

I respect the Patriots and their organization. You almost HAVE to - 4 AFC Championships, 3 Super Bowls all in this age of free agency and salary caps is a nigh impossible result to expect. The system as it stands is meant for things like this NOT to happen but it did. The Patriots are the best team of this decade.

That being said, the Colts aren't far behind. Only one superbowl and 3 visits to the conference championships but 6 straight division championships - especially this year where the competition is getting much tougher in-division - is nothing to sneeze at. Think the Colts get respect around here?

No, I hear about the "Peyton Manning Face".

So frankly, I'm taking this as karmic justice. All the insufferable Pats fans I've had to endure over the last 6 years are now feeling the combined force of what they put on me.

As for the Belichek/Brady comment I made? I make flippant off the cuff remarks like that all the time. You aren't expected to know that - you don't know me. For the record though, that's tame. From the woman who gave you "I Will stab him in the eye with a spiked dildo" (I'm actually a pacifist in real life, folks), you can't expect any violent comment out of me to be taken anywhere close to serious.

If you do, I'll have to take a thin glass rod and... nah - that's cruel. And the poor SWF'ers already have to deal with my carrying on with genital mutilation. :D

  5. I know that I am opening myself up to a shitstorm here, but why exactly are we supposed to hate the Patriots? Is it because Bill Belichick is a dick and he tried to cheat? Are we just tired in general of mouth-breating Boston fans and their air of importance? Honestly, I don't really see that as a reason to loathe the team with such contempt.

I was sort of indifferent to yesterday's outcome, but I've always found the Pats to be an admirable franchise. They've built up a winning organization with a good team concept that evolved through dedicated coaching, strong drafting/free agent decisions and good character guys. I don't really have any sort of emotional connection with that, but their dominance in the salary cap era has been more astonishing than vile.

I can think of about 20+ organizations that I hate more than New England.

I've rooted for the Colts since I was 8. Because of recent history, I couldn't have been happier about the Super Bowl unless Belichek and Brady both got horrifically killed on the field. By Peyton.

Add to that fact that I live IN NEW ENGLAND and frankly it's like a breath of fresh air. All these smug bastards are quiet and depressed. Makes me feel a lot better in comparison.

Does that make me a bad person? Probably.

    Do I care? No.

    Ha ha.

    -Annie

actually - I do feel bad for one member of the Pats team: Wes Welker. No one has busted their BUTT more in the face of zero fame and zero recognition only to be signed by a team that actually used him to his best. Welker's the man. If he was on the Colts the last 5 years we may have more than one Lombardi trophy this decade.

  6. But Plax was WRONG. They didn't score 17. The Giants scored 17. He was only off by 7 on the Giants score so well done, well done indeed there.

Although the quote goes a long way to show why I have hated Tom and will always hate him. Cocky Michigan pricks.

I hear so much crap around here for how Peyton is such a commercial sellout (not that I'm denying he does a shitton of commercials but really, who doesn't?) but it's in a goofy self-effacing way. Other than the stupid Oreo commercial I find most of them funny. Plus... the SNL United Way skit was gold.

Tom Brady however just exudes that sort of smug smooth "I'm the man and you can't touch me" personality that I hate. Pretty boy bastard. Talented as a motherfucker and smart as hell - I respect him. Doesn't stop me from hating him.

I just bought the Boston Herald paper where the front and back cover sheet turns into a simple poster of a distraught de-helmeted Tom Brady walking off in shame. I'm putting it on my wall, bitches. Last year may have been cathartic for my Colt fandom, but last night was just as cathartic for my anti-Patriot fandom. It feels sooooo good seeing them fail.

  7. Congrats to all the Giants fans from a diehard Colts fan. Thank you for doing this year what we couldn't, and thank you for just demoralizing and destroying the Patriots. As a Colts fan living in New England... you cannot imagine how hard the next month would have been had they won. I can now breathe easy living here.

Thank you. For that, and what was easily the craziest and most exciting Super Bowl I have ever seen in my 25 years.

    Manning Bowl next year? :D

  8. Full Moon Winter Ale is worth I shot, I think. I liked it - I tried it sans orange, though - I'm not sure if it is supposed to have one or not.

Addendum - as I had a lot of the Full Moon of late. It's good, doesn't quite live up to the billing of a true Belgian styled ale, but no orange. No no no no fruit on Belgian abbey-style ales.

    Best Belgians, btw:

    3) Duvel

    - A wonderful golden Dubbel. 8.2% and tasty but FILLING. Do not try with pizza, that's for sure - you'll feel bloated for hours.

    2) Affligem (Dubbel or Trippel)

    - Tasty, not horribly filling, lovely aroma and a nice mellow sweetness out of the Tripel. Mmmm.

    1) Ommnegang

    - Who knew that NY state could be home to an awesome abbey ale?

if possible, get proper glasses for these, it does help!

  9. Dogfish Head just opened up an alehouse about 10 minutes from where I live. I'm excited beyond words. They've got 90 Minute IPA on tap, and should also have Fort, the 18 abv fruit beer, pretty soon.

First I was envious of your writing... but now you have a Dogfish brewpub in your area???? You unctuous bastard!

... what's the 18 abv fruit beer? Seeing as NH has these ridiculous beer laws I wouldn't have had a chance to try it. Unless you mean the Raison D'Extra - in which case I'd avoid unless you reeeeeeeeeeeeally like raisins/grapes. It's a strong fruit taste. Either way, try a 120 IPA - your mouth and brain will love you. Your stomach and intestines will hate you in the morning, but who cares. Stupid gut.

I'm a wholehearted subscriber to Unibroue beers as well. Their 16th anniversary beer is delightful as is Terrible, La Fin du Monde, Maudite and Trois Pistoles. I remember going into a bar with a friend of mine and having 8 La Fins plus a couple Blue Fin Stout from Shipyard. Not only was I giggling like a schoolgirl by the end of the night, but I told the bartender that she was the most beautiful woman I had ever seen and gave her an extra $5 tip. I was SO glad I recognized her hotness as I went into the bar sober, otherwise I'd feel awful.

... next morning I emailed out of work however I didn't realize I was even on the computer or for that matter awake. I came to as I was typing my name. That was an odd day. Then again waking up and seeing my ex-girlfriend of 4 years laughing at me as I'm in bed with her younger sister was odd too.

  10. Wireless on linux is sadly still a bitch to get working, especially if you have a newer laptop that's either "ready for Vista" or has the Bloated Beast on it proper. Vista 'requires' odd specs out of new wireless cards, basically to make it harder for the OSS folk.

Ubuntu is probably the best compatibility wise (the only one I could use that got wireless working on my new HP laptop). I'd recommend KUbuntu though, since GNOME is quite possibly the most frustrating GUI I've ever used.

I'd honestly rather use Vista than GNOME.

  11. a) the fact that you made a graphic for a chain of hardware stores to use in the fed = awesome. You never know, you might spark the next Frost © brand Cigars.

    b) Princess of Hardcore??? Oh bitch, it's on! ;)

    The Hardcore Queen says:

"No Threats, No promises... just a Decree - don't step to my throne. That's right, I'm ripping off Stubbs"

  12. aww, I'm no-one's favorite? My ego is suitably crushed :P

    SWF

Favorite Writer(s)? all time I think I gotta go Taamo, Edwin, ELM, King... all the old school classics. Even you Thugg ;)

Favorite Match(es)? Wargames was classic, and almost the entire body of work from Justice and Rule, I almost bought a hoodie. Who bought the hoodies btw? Even worse, who remembers them? *cries*

Favorite Promo(s)? FLIP~! bitches. Actually personally, I'm amazed how good the old Lady Red to Annie to Mag7 promos worked, even though I was bouncing from stable to stable like a whooo-re.

As for other people, Taamo again and Zed was awesome. Janus got to be pretty badass too until he sicked Ebony on me :P

Favorite Character(s)? All the carnies, especially Zed. 'course Taamo, Toxxic.... and TNT! EXPLOOOOOOOODE~! Plus, he wrote me as the ironwoman of CF 2003. Gotta show him some love. Silent/Kibs... damn, there's been some good ones.

Favorite Spot(s)? I remember Jay Dawg's finish against me in our feud was badass. He owned the HCG division for a few months there.

Favorite Move Names? Hollowpoint Driver, Boilermaker, and anything in Jimmy the Doom's moveset. Hell yeah.

Favorite Stipulation(s)? Just give me a good ol' falls count anywhere HC match. good times.

Least Favorite Stipulation(s)? Honestly? TLC... too much stuff to deal with at once.

Favorite Match(es) and Promo(s) (Written by you)? Some of my favorite matches were the Best of Seven with Tod deKindes. That was fun and awesome. Also, the Beezel run was pretty awesome.

Dream Matches? Annie v. Taamo v. Kibagami for the World. Damn, that match would write itself. This was my triple threat ending for the CF - if I get a chance to do this - watch out :D

Dream Angles? obv. never happening, but if I ever did a tag run with someone, I'd love to feud a returning Justice and Rule. We'd get romped but it'd rock.

Funny Moment(s)? um... yeah. See "Annie's entire SWF run". Disregard what I said because I think I remember reality now. Wow. I suck sometimes :)

Fondest Memories? I'll never forget ELM giving me a shoot rundown of how, under no circumstances, can I immediatly jump the Carnie ship for another stable. I had literally gone from Clan to XF9 to Mag7 in the span of 3-4 weeks, doing a double turn in the process. Thankfully (and smartly) I stuck with the Carnies for a while and it was good.

Any Regrets? Lots, but we've gone over that.

I've became most friendly with...? Taamo and Toxxic. Hell, they're on my MySpace!

I don't care about current pro wrestling, and the personal stuff we've gone over already, heh. If you don't know by now... well don't know what to tell you :D

  13. You know I hadn't thought about 2007 in review until this thread.

After three years of steadily paying off credit cards, I end up doubling my CC debt.

In January moved in with girlfriend and girlfriend's sister. The same sister who I was engaged to and lived with for 3 years. That was awkward.

So was breaking up with the girlfriend and then living with TWO ex-girlfriends.

Moved back into my hometown with a roommate who's crazy but in a benign way so I can deal.

Gained 25 lbs. from start to finish.

Got back in touch with my core group of HS friends.

Started the process of getting a sex change and then had insurance tell me that no, no I wasn't getting one. At least not on their dime. Sadly I'm out of my own.

All in all - a pretty crap year with a few highlights here and there. At least I'm getting better at guitar!

    Hooray.

  14. Arguably the biggest drama queen in SWF history.

... oh wait, we had Thoth. Never mind.

Justify this. With Stubby, Ash, Bo (that sex promo), and Mercury (that time he did that thing), how am I a bigger drama queen?

    I'm quite harmless.

We all know there were bigger than you or I, but I just wanted to pick on an old friend :P

    Ash though? Really, Ash?

  16. I've been slightly busy. "slightly" meaning "horrendously"

I sure cocked things up. (ha ha. see what I did there? ugh.)

    www.myspace.com/ayaislove

for the new, sanitized "No references to who I am because my work scans myspace and I don't want them to know what I'm doing yet" myspace site. You know you have it right if you see an idiot dressed like Sub Zero.

... because I'm dressed like Sub Zero.

And, well... thanks guys. It's incredibly sweet to know that a) none of you feel negative towards me (because of this... otherwise, shit, go for it) and b) you're all accepting.

You all are awesome. Feel free to add me or whatnot, I'll get to adds soon.
