Agreed. And if you people can't appreciate baseball outside of Yankees/Red Sox, it's your loss. I do. Doesn't change that Yankees/Sox is infinitely more important than any other series this weekend. To you. Who cares? You get your own special thread everytime they meet. What's the problem? And the games are meaningless now, anyway.

Yeah, and I'd snatch 'em but you have to legally give up your right to keep a Bond's homer or something like that. Contract and everything. The Guy is determined for some peice of history. I've watched a few of the Sox/Yanks games this season, mostly to hold me over until the Gent's game started. Yeah, they get a sick amount of attention, but they're fun to watch. At this point, though, the only thing at stake is determining which team's fans have bigger dicks.

Shocked the hell out of me. After that tiny slump he had going for awhile, I thought he had no shot, and his projected hits looked to be about 1 shy of the record. I'm going to the Dodgers/Giants home series finale on Sunday. Even planning on going to LA for the last game of the season on October 3rd (my birthday). After last night's game, it was like the Giants were revisting April for old times sake. Just to see if they could still blow games they should've won. This after certain relievers whined about not getting enough playing time. I hope Alou has every starter at throw a max of 8 2/3 innings from this point on. No chances. Even if we're getting blown out, even if their pitch counts are high, even if their arms are dangling by a thread, keep the bullpen AWAY! They can only make it worse. Who does San Diego get this weekend?

Magnum, P.I. The Mustache alone could take half the guys listed already.

I'm a claims assistant at an insurance company. Worker's compensation division. I hate it. I, too, am in a band (drummer). Though, at this point using the term 'band' would be misleading as there are only two of us now.

Nice to see you're trying to make a point. Mind telling us what that is? People like different things? I know it's crazy but people actually grew up, and get this, liked Power Rangers. Myself included. That's not directed at Starvenger so much as it is the people coming in here adding nothing to the discussion but "Power Rangers??? That shit's still on???".

Schmidt is shit, now. I don't know if it's the pitch calling as our back-up catcher has been behind the plate for his last few starts, or he's tired but 6 runs in 3+ innings and 100+ pitches so far tonight, isn't a good sign. This is getting embarassing. How the Giants are a contending team is beyond me, but ownerships' hope that Bonds and Schmidt are gonna carry this team to the playoffs like last year, isn't working. No bat to protect Bonds, crappy defense, and a pitching staff that goes down the toilet once you get past our Ace should not equal contention, but there they are.

Awesome, the first Battle of the Sexes was my favorite "season". The guys are gonna take this challenge easy, just like last time, and for the same reason: the girls are all drama. And the golden rule of the "Challenge": Whichever team Coral is on will lose. Although I think she was part of the winning team in the Battle of the Seasons challenge.

What if the A's had kept their free agents?

Not to be an ass but, what's the point of this? Couldn't this have been put in the Moneyball thread? Is this open to all teams or just the A's? -

SF Giants: Russ Ortiz, Tim Worrell, Joe Nathan, Jeff Kent, David Bell. -
Kirk Rueter is pitching tomorrow for SF, though. He's usually good for about 6 runs in a 6 inning span and walks galore. I'll be there tomorrow, hoping to all hell, that the home plate ump has the largest strikezone ever, cause that's the only way he's going to be effective. I still in shock that Pedro Feliz, with the bases loaded and no outs, swings at a 2-0 pitch to ground into a run scoring double play. One run with the bases stacked and none out, is inexcusable. As well as Mohr's dropped ball. But to his credit he did come up with another way to force a double play when he was caught off base after a Bonds' pop-up against the Expos.

The Mets' and Giants' bullpens are both desperately trying to lose this game.

Another awesome performance by Noah Lowry tonight against the Mets. The 10 ks killed his stamina at the end though. And, hey, the bullpen didn't allow a run to cross the board after Lowry left. And I concur with Smues, fuck Beltre. Or damn him, whatever. He bailed Gagne out of his 3rd consecutive loss tonight.

But what if that speedy runner is able to advance to third on a single, where a player with average speed would hold at second? Wouldn't that be a benefit? I'm witnessing firsthand with the Giants this year, that station-to-station ball can cost runs as just as smallball can in certain situations. You also have to take into account the double-play ball. But "Moneyball" seems to be effective. The A's win every year, I hate it, but there's no denying it. It's not very exciting to me, but it works.

So Schmidt leaves the game in before the ninth with something. Looked like he strained something in his leg. Gents up 4-2 with only 3 outs to record and secure a painless win, and Schmidty's 16th of the year. The Giants bullpen would have NONE of that and decide to make the game a bit more interesting by letting the 'Spos tie the game. Sure we won it in the 9th, but squeaking by the Expos isn't making me any more comfortable with this bullshit pen. If Schmidt's out for more than a start, we're through.

I understand the Expos have been hot lately and all, but there's no excuse for Kirk Rueter struggling against them the way he did. He never seems to able to make it out of the 5th inning without giving up at least 4 runs. His pitching style has become soooo one dimensional and predictable. The Pads are gonna take the Wild Card, me thinks in a dogfight with the Cubbies (who I think will get hot in Sept)to the bitter end. At least we got rid of Felix before it was too late.

To be fair, the called ball four sounded like strike 3, and the pitch was close AND Wiggington crossed his path while attempting the throw AND Ray Durham should've dove for that ball or put his body in front of it instead of letting it pass his glove like that. And the Giants bullpen and crappy defense strikes again, as Craig Wilson ends an 0 for 5 day by hitting a walk-off homer on our new and improved closer, Dustin Hermanson. That along with Felipe Alou's absolute refusal to get Marquis Grissom out of the line-up despite not having a productive game in about two months is costing us the season. This team is innovating the art of the Double Play, and I don't mean turning them either. They ground into them, hit&run into them, fly out, line out, foul out and strike out into them. While it makes for an entertaining drinking game, it doens't bode well for my hopes of a play-off spot.
-
If Clement can hang in there for 7 innings, the Giants bullpen should give up 20 or 30 runs to give him the edge. So it's not all bad for the Cubbies.
-
Nope. Schmidt's start was moved to today. It's still unclear who is going up against Maddux on Saturday. I would've liked to have seen Merkin Valdez start, but Felipe looks intent on killing his confidence.

I'll allow it, as it's well deserved. *hangs head in shame*
