I remember this being said about Orton who is now one of SD's few legit main eventers. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Well Orton actually HAS talent compared to Jordan, who hasnt had an impressive match ever by my eyes. He has ZERO charisma and his mic skills are fucking horrid. Orton, even back when he started in WWE, at least could work a match properly.
-
*cough*pisstests*cough* Sorry, nearly choked on my breakfast. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yeah between that and from what I heard, alot of problems with fighters with a questionable past - guess this is what we got.
-
I think all they said was that Hardy lost by forfeit, almost like a KO victory or something. The ref kept checking him to see if he could continue and determined he couldnt when he couldnt even stand up.
-
Ack, why would you continue a Jordan/Benoit feud? That only serves to hurt BOTH performers. Jordan ISNT going to get over AT ALL, period - I dont care how he's booked or used, the guy has about an ounce of talent. Benoit only is served to get hurt by continuing to be paired off with Jordan. Case closed. Trying to elevate anyone else on the roster in a program with Benoit is better than continuing this.

Yeah to me it came off pretty much as a burial last night, unfortunately.

It amazes me that someone would walk out right away like that in Eli's case. What a fucking opportunity you have that you will NEVER get again. The guy should be and might very well be blackballed from really ever making it in MMA. That is the biggest bitch move I've seen an athlete do - even telling Dana and Co. that he would wait it out til the next day to see how he would feel. He didnt even do that. What a fucking little bitch, and then for him to talk himself up before and after the fact, its just pathetic. I would love to hear his thoughts right now after everything has transpired. Gotta feel sorry for Kerry, he seemed uber-passionate, more than anyone else, about the opportunity he was given but that could have just been well done producing of the show to make him look that way. Either way it sucks to have a guy out from an injury that early on the show. I'm sure, much like Quarry, he will get a chance to do a fight during the finale event. Kenny is another bitch in the pack - what a fucking loser - he was 3/4 of the way there! If I was Dana I would have been pissed as hell and that speech he made was definately warranted. Makes me wonder how hard of a time they had to get some decent fighters into the mix here.

So someone is not allowed to hold the belt more than once? Oook. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Of course someone can, but can you legitimately say that building Jericho back up as a world title contender for a Mania main event is good business considering how they have pussy footed around with his pushes in years' past? Its just not smart. Plus it makes no sense anyway when you have plenty of others who are currently getting the pushes forward who could use the Rumble win more than him. Now if Jericho had never been in a world title situation, and/or never won the title, it would at least make a little sense since you could build to his first big chase to the WWE main title, much like they did with Benoit and Eddy a few years ago.

By no means am I a Hardy fan, but I havent seen a storyline in quite some time that since the beginning of it, the babyface has been booked to look overly pathetic since the programs inception. The promo was one thing - but since then he's consistently been punked out by Edge. The fuckin guy was booed when he was walking away from the ring at SummerSlam, and you think this is still just something of a bigger picture that they are building to and Hardy isnt legitimately getting buried? You're as dense to think that as Hardy apparently is too. The shit last night on Raw just further killed off the program. Losing to Rob Fucking Conway?!! And might I mention without any run-in from Edge even. And then he gets his ass kicked AGAIN by Edge. It's borderline delusional to think this program WILL work, first - and second, that that anyone is sympathetic to the Hardy character after the way he's been used so far. My friend and I were joking how sad it was that they would consider Hardy over Conway in a semi-squash is getting Hardy's heat back from SS. Well instead they had him job out to Conway basically clean, and then Edge fucks him up some more. I can't believe Hardy is allowing this to happen - his career is going down the shitter really fast. Even a few weeks of redemption or whatever isnt going to make this feud anymore interesting at all - they've already dug the proverbial grave on Hardy and this feud. It's dead and buried. I do agree with you on the Cena thing though.
-
This is a very far fetched, "what if" thread, and quite frankly, pointless. They've already been there, done that, with Jericho. He won the title back in 2001 - doing it again, whether he is a face of heel, would be uncreative and there are much other better choices than this. Having him win the Rumble and main event Mania 22 - I'm sorry, but it wont draw. I'm definately a Jericho fan but am sensical to see that he's been underutilized so much in the past that this would bomb horribly if they did it, from a business perspective.

I think the point is that the feud is done, it built to the ladder match, as there was a clear direction that the SummerSlam match was the finale of their feud, or at least was talked about as such by the announcers and wrestlers themselves. I totally disagree with you on the Rey as a main eventer deal, obviously the bookers feel the same way, which is why he is getting the push he is getting. He can be and is currently somewhat of a draw. The Smackdown shows I've been to the last few years I've seen ALOT of Rey merchandise sold, as he is a great draw for the kids. Especially since he's bulked up a little bit since his WCW run, he's most definately a credible main eventer in my eyes, he's not that much considerably smaller than Benoit or Guererro at this point. The reason alot of Rey's win have been cheap is to PROTECT EDDY. That's the point - to put over Rey so many times but as such, you have to make sure the heel saves some sort of face. It's just smart booking. Sure, I wouldnt have had Rey win EVERY match they've had since Mania (Eddy should have beaten Rey at either Judgment Day or GAB for sure) but now going and having Eddy (remember, the HEEL) kick the shit out of Rey in a final match between them is just counterproductive to the whole point of the feud. Not seeing where you think Rey is not getting over from all of this, when he won at the ppv I heard a pretty decent pop.

He signed up in a short term contract, which only last 2-3 weeks total. Apparently it expires tonite. I still expect him back in a few months likely but now is the time for TNA to make some heavy negotiations to him and try to get him in for the Spike TV debut. Between working indys, TNA, and Japan, Jericho could be a rich man in no time. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Stop day dreaming. Jericho isn't stepping foot in TNA. Jericho doesn't need Japan, TNa and Indies to make a living. He made a pretty healthy living for himself working for WWE, Fozzy and various other sources of income he has. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> With the fact he's already made a healthy way of living for himself though, one would imagine, especially pertaining to the Fozzy stuff, that he'd like a more limited schedule of dates per month, time for family, etc. He's already likely rich, he now wants to not have to be traveling constantly as the WWE has currently. Thats kind of why I could see him working at least a few TNA dates per month and then a random show here and there, but mostly spending time away from the business and more with the music stuff. Just a change of lifestyle to not have to worry about all of the running around all the time without many strong breaks that the WWE has. If his contract is now in fact done and he hasnt resigned yet, that tells me something is up there and it's most definately got a given he's going back to them immediately - small break for Fozzy gigs or not.

They have roughly 7-8 weeks to get Eddie ready for Batista (if that is the direction they go) However the last thing I want to see is another damn tournament to determine a contender for a belt. They have already had a tournament earlier this year. If they want to do #1 contender's match, then fine, but please no more tournaments. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I agree, was just using a quick example. A round robin series of matches between x number of Smackdown guys might work.
-
Then I hope your sight is bad. They've already done Michaels and Flair. It's not good. See Bad Blood 2003. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Eh their matches have actually been pretty solid, if you ask me. I hope they do the match at the ppv too, BUT it has to be with HBK as a heel and Flair as the face.
-
But then the problem lies in that Rey's overall push may be affected by that. It most certainly would if Eddy just flat out kicked the shit out of him in a match and left him laying. The whole point of this feud, I would imagine, was to elevate Rey into a situation where he could be penciled into more main event feuds and programs. If Eddy, now, just flat out kicks his ass and the feud is over, that doesnt really help anyone as Rey will be affected and Eddy got one silly win over Rey and heels shouldnt normally be put over the face in the blowoff, especially in this situation where the idea is to put over Rey to a level he hasnt been at before, and establish Eddy more as a credible heel with his character and not necessarily with the amount of wins he has. Ultimately, I think wins and losses dont mean much, as long as the person losing still comes out looking pretty credible in the process. And unless I was watching a different match, Eddy moreless won that match last night over and over quite clearly. So yeah, Rey won, but Eddy got just as much out of that match as Rey did. Eddy still looks just fine if they decide to do a Batista/Eddy program right now. They probably will need to do some multi-week formula of things to give merit to Eddy having a title shot, such as winning a tournament or whatever.

Yeah it was actually smart booking for the reasons you already stated, plus consider how Benoit, to me, lost a few steps of being over when he had to do the lame-as-fuck job to Jordan last month, as well as jobbed out in lame form here and there, the few that come to mind are the jobs to Orton and JBL. This is great payback to him, if anything. Also, it highlights the unpredictability of losing to a submission out of nowhere and as well really gives credibility to the crossface more than before.

It's probably something to do with Arn Anderson in WWE, just like all the other name changes. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> There was some speculation in the Observer this week that Vince might be high on him since that is his own middle name.

Fair enough. As an aside, I just watched Cena-Jericho. And well, Jericho is awesome for dragging Cena to a decent match. Jericho being way over also made me happy. I hope he doesn't get buried after this. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yeah, he should be commended for making Cena look so good in that match to the n'th degree. What is so funny about that is he did it when now he is in complete limbo about his standing after this, since he is apparently taking some time off and doesnt have a contract now. Didnt the short term one just expire with that match last night? If that was Jericho's final WWE match (which is highly doubtful) then he surely went out with a bang. If anything that performance in that match ups his value and might give him more incentive to request a raise if he resigns.

It wasn't a matter of not liking the build, because there was no build. As I said, they started firing off spots immediately, starting from the backdrop ~30 seconds into the match. And it's not like the backdrop was just a "flash" move where one guy gets surprised early in the match, but ultimately doesn't suffer a whole lot because of it. The backdrop was a transition into bringing the ladder in and firing off more spots, without ever even bothering to do any basic wear down or spot teases. The match was essentially all spots, and when a lot of those spots are sloppy and contrived, it's hard to view the match as even remotely good. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> We'll have to agree to disagree on this point of a "build" because I saw it clearly. There was a clear pyschological build in the match (spot after spot was building to something more than alot of WWE ladder matches have) and there was a clear emotional payoff for those who actually enjoyed the storyline or at least got into it.
-
Eh thats not really true - you're just thinking in context of what YOU feel is "beating someone." Anyway some comments from Wade Keller on the Matt Hardy deal from his SummerSlam thoughts email... "What can be said about Matt Hardy? Unless there's some shocking development, he committed career suicide in the short-run by cashing out (assuming he did get a better financial deal than he could have gotten as a true independent contractor). Those who didn't believe in him before still don't, and those who didn't like him before who have power have new reason not to like him and thus bury him. He has been humiliated since returning in every way imaginable from being shown up on interviews by Edge and Lita, treated as an insignificant mid-carder by the announcing team, and losing his revenge match against Edge in one of the worst ways possible - he was too beat up to continue. He didn't even dispute the decision by the ref. He just sat there in a daze, as if he was legitimately roughed up by a bad dude who was tougher than him. Utter burial." I totally agree with that, there is no way they can right a wrong with that match last night. In fact I expect absolutely ZERO follow up tonite.

Regarding Rey-Eddy, first off, having Eddy win the match would make no sense when you are doing a blow off to a feud, and considering the storyline here, it actually made perfect sense. Guererro basically won the match anyway since when do you see a heel getting continously screwed out of a win like that? To say the match was a complete mess makes me wonder what some were watching. I thought the pychology in that match was brilliant, especially considering you dont see that much in a ladder match. Sure, there was a few blown looking spots but nothing too much to completely ruin it. Oh yeah for what its worth, I thought Joe-Styles was around a **** 1/4 match, compared to Rey-Eddy at *** 1/2. Oh and dont let the fact that you didnt like the build of the match hurt the actual workrate and layout of such match, its kind of an irrelevant point in ways when you think about it. One thing is clear though, it had a long term build and honestly the match itself should have been higher on the card.

Why dont you just not go to the show right away so you can miss the opening band if you hate them so much? Thats a ridicukous excuse for not going to a concert.

I went to Red Eye yesterday - Craven did a great job of creating this uneasy confined feeling considering it was mostly based inside an airport and airplane of course. Pretty good film but it takes awhile to get somewhere and there are a few parts of unbelievability, but not nearly as bad as I expected. For a Craven film that wasn't a horror, I was impressed.
-
I actually hope there is some hotshotting tonite on the show as the card so far is hard to say on and it will need some work to make it even semi-interesting. I dont think its a given there will be another Edge/Hardy match, it could just as much end up that Hardy is "injured" and Edge works another program from this point on. IF they do what I hope they do tonite with a HHH/HBK turn on Hogan and maybe even tonite a Flair face turn on HHH, I could see the headliners looking this way. Cena/Angle HHH/Hogan HBK/Flair

Yeah Batista is still getting over pretty much although he's not getting near the pops and general appeal that he did when he was being built up for the Mania match against HHH.
